I’m fine with seeing what Granato can do with Eichel. I would strip him of his Captaincy though. He lost that at his end of year presser. I still would tell him, if he still wants to go, then a trade will be done before his NMC kicks in.

That's the wisest thing to do unless we really get true value for Jack.

Reinhart is looking at cashing in next summer, or this summer if he's traded. He won't sign for more than a year with Buffalo. So he'll be traded.
    - Vogl thinks Reinhart will go to Calgary, Vancouver, or Seattle. Calgary for Monahan might be a good trade for both teams, especially with Reinhart proven as a center.

    - Adams will attempt to trade Ristolainen, but he's been on the block for three years with no takers, so it's not a given he goes. NJ is a possibility and has been for a while.
-Adams took so long with the head coaching search because he's a new GM, and wanted to talk to as many potential head coaches as he could to gather ideas and perspectives, as well as foster relationships.
    - Expect Adams to add to the scouting staff this summer. He knows he's short.
    - Don't expect a senior VP for hockey operations soon (Rutherford idea).
    - Sabres scouting staff loves the Michigan kids, which is why they are working toward a 2nd high first round pick (Anaheim?).
    - Terry Pegula loves Owen Power
    - The Sabres may trade for a goaltender who can't be protected: Vanecek, Jake Allen, Khudobin (I take all the credit for the Vanecek idea. Vogl's article is from June 23rd, and I said that a long time ago. )
    - Sabres are building around a new youth core (Dahlin, Cozens, Mittelstadt) and the plan is to build around them and add to them as a core.
    - Granato knows his game plan needs to be around a young line-up.
    - Don't expect a new captain right away

Monahan's production has been falling whereas Reinhart's has been ascending, am not 100% agreement that's a wise move for us.

Tend to agree. Granato seemed to me to be pretty much the plan all along, because rebuilding sans Jack has pretty much been the plan all along, IMO. Those two seemed to be hand in hand - would be doubtful the experienced guy signs up for the youth movement, like we both alluded to.

I think Granato is a good pick for that strategy

If we're truly rebuilding aka trading both Jack and Sam then taking Power makes little to no sense since we have no one in the piplline to be as good, to me you take Beniers.

Ok, but the best return is almost guaranteed not to be in our conference. NYR don't want to trade any of their good prospects. Columbus... lol. Toronto doesn't have the cap. Boston doesn't have the pieces. Can't think of another team that might trade for him outside of those in the east. Carolina could if they really wanted too but it would be unusual for them. Ottawa, Montreal, NYI, Pitt, Florida all don't seem like partners or don't have anything we should trade Jack for. Flyers I suppose could be a team.

Out west, Anaheim, Vegas, Vancouver, Calgary, Minnesota are all potential spots. LA could even still be in the mix.

I think Minnesota right for the taking as they have a few vets to re-sign with little cap room to do so, I say take Fiala and another rostered player along with Boldy and another prospect for Jack. I don't like LA because don't see any NHL level players coming back.

    2. This is what I can tell you about the rumours that Matthew Tkachuk wants out of Calgary: When the news about Seth Jones got around, no one was thrilled it had leaked, but no one denied it. Same for Oliver Ekman-Larsson being available and Dougie Hamilton free to talk to other teams. With Tkachuk, there’ve been firm denials. I do believe the Flames refused to include him in any Pierre-Luc Dubois trade talks last season.

    5. Last week was quieter on the Jack Eichel front, but I’d expect that to get going once again when Buffalo hires its head coach. Incumbent Don Granato and Rick Tocchet are among the contenders.

It makes sense to move Eichel only after our HC is named so we can get guys that said coach likes or believes can coach in his system or build his system around. Personally I think the speculation that Eichel is just that, yes we have people calling about him and we're likely having the discussion yet think most teams won't pony up to our demands and Captain Jack will return for the start of the regular season.

It's not 52 goals, I will say that. He had a very high shot % even for the OHL and regression is going to happen there. I think a 25g, 35a player is there who will play a full 200 foot game.

Actually in the last 2 drafts they love adding 200ft guys... Cozens, Peterka, Quinn all play both ends of the ice and check in all directions.

Nothing wrong that kind of production in the NHL.

Quinn is skilled, plays hard and does anything his coaches ask of him. He absolutely fits the profile.

I get why some are upset about the Quinn pick. I'm continually surprised at the misperceptions about what kind of player he is.

We can only hope he ever gets close to that level, but his game style is very Mark Stone.

It's just the question the true Quinn the kid who scored 12 goals or 52 goals? If he lands in between I'm okay with it.

I just hope Quinn comes back from injury ready to go and really lights of the AHL.

I just hope he brings enough that Rossi and Jarvis and Lundell don't really sour Sabres' fans on him forever.

I was hoping we took Cole Perfetti.

In defense of Jack Quinn, he has heart, compete, is faster (I think he isn't elite but is above average for sure), and has the willingness to battle in the hard areas.

I know but like many I felt there were better players available at the time. Yet do give him credit for doing okay in Rochester last year. He might be better than give him credit for.

"“Heart, compete, fast skill, but hard skill,” said Adams. “There’s a lot of skilled players out there in the playoffs, but it's a hard skill and willingness to go to the hard areas, just that type of team identity. Also, an identity of team first, really believing in each other. Getting away from anyone in this organization or on this team that's more concerned about themselves."

I can't think they aren't anything but focused on Matty Beniers.

One would hope but then again they drafted Quinn last year to the shock of many.

Again, SUPER hard pass on that.  A 30 year old...with a huge salary?  And just how many people do you think want to come to the worst team in a league just because one player was traded for?  Not enough to make you a contender.  I don't think this would happen, but if they made a deal like this, it would be about as upset with management as I ever have been and would wonder just what their plan for this franchise is.

Hall signed here in part because Eichel was here. All I'm saying is Tavares to me is a better player than Mariner so if moved Jack we need a better starting point.

Is it possible that Reinhart is just a miserable bastard? I certainly know plenty of them.

He probably feels underappreciated as he can't get a long term deal and or not looked as to be in Jack, ROR, Kane level of important guys. He showed me something this season by finally playing Center as felt he'd be an ideal 2C since we lost ROR.

  12. Just now, mjd1001 said:

Yeah, no thanks on Tavares.  I mean with his age and contract, and the fact the Sabres aren't going to be contenders anytime soon, I really don't want him for even a LOT less than Eichel.

By getting Tavares you give other NHL players to want to come here. If we only takes picks and prospects we become undesirable to other players imo.

Zegras and Comtois can be described as futures. So can a 2022 first and a prospect 2 years away.

I have a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach about this

I think Zegras a must get if Eichel is going to Anaheim, pairing him with Comtois, a prospect and pick to me likely the best we can expect which to me fair.

Thanks for sinking Sam's value Paul

    Wow.

    My mind is blown.

Paul doesn't care for the Sabres too much. He's certainly a lot saltier now then he was when he first started. Personally I don't like his reporting now.

My loyalty is to the Sabres not players.  I won't be upset if Eichel goes.  I also think we have another chance to be good with a few decisions made correctly.   The more I watch playoff hockey,  the more I think Eichel and Sam are the type of players that would easily get neutralized.

So I don't want to build with them any longer.  I'm ready to try and build differently.

If Eichel and Sam would get neutralized why would other teams trade for them? Sorry I can't agree, when healthy, Eichel is a top 10-15 player in the NHL. Sam maybe in the top 30-40. Moving on from your two best players not the wisest of moves in a team that struggles to score even with them here. I understand if either one really have issues playing here you move them but moving them for asking of making a move to try and ignite something new isn't smart. You get better by surrounding your talent with better talent.
