A Zucker type can be  signed in the weeks to come after the Byram thing works itself out

Same thing with a guy like Quinn as not sure why we made him a priority signing this offseason. He should have been the last one we'd have to re-sign or IF somebody did give him offer sheet I'd let him walk pending level of compensation.

I’m sorry but trading Krebs and Östlund isn’t exactly blowing up the young core of this team. This team hasn’t made the Playoffs in 14 years. I want them in this year.

    Neigbors-Norris-Thompson

    Rust-Kulich-Tuch

    Benson-McLeod-Quinn

    Zucker-Rakell-Greenway

    Dahlin-Acquired D Man

    Power-Kesserling

    Timmins-Samuelsson

That lineup feels like a Playoff lineup to me. Krebs isn’t a major piece to a Cup contender 3-5 years from now and with Helenius looking good I can part with Östlund.

I'm just saying with the age of Rust and Rackell it might a one year playoff run and done. I didn't realize this plan including and Neighbors. It's more desirable then.

I just want this over with. Trade him to St. Louis for:

    One of Holloway or Neighbors

One of Broberg, Fowler or Tucker

    A 2nd round pick

Then flip the 2nd, Krebs and Östlund to Pittsburgh for Rust and Rakell

Sure trade 20 somethings for overaged 30 somethings makes perfect sense for a team that is even close to sniffing a Stanley Cup this coming season. Just kill me. At least with the JJP trade we got back guys of similar age.

A lot of media noise yesterday concerning the Blues trying hard to make a deal for Byram.

They have cap concerns which means they would have to deal vets in return to make it work. The offer sheet idea for them makes no sense .

There's talk they could put Torey Krug on LTIR which would free up $6.5m of their cap. Yet if rumors of Byram wanting $9.0m then they'd still have to make another move to get under the cap.

Minny would never but ya Folgino back is just such a no brainer its crazy

Kolesar is also one ive wanted for awhile and I think the Sabres have too, I remember a few years ago there was rumors that he was almost traded here

Whitecload and Kolesar for Byram,, it just works, then figure out the forward log jam after

Logjams at the 4th line aren't a good thing unless you have an over abundance of prospects you're trying to bring into the league. Yeah sorry I can't see trading a top or second line Dman for a bottom 6 forward and bottom 4 Dman.

What is hilarious about keeping Adams is that because the Sabres have kept Adams and are allowing him to drive this bus, he will not get the best trade for Byram. He can't accept futures even if they were good picks and prospects because Adams has to make the playoffs this year. He can't sign Byram because he stupidly gave Samuelsson too much money AND compounded his error by convincing himself he can't move off of Samuelsson or simply sign Byram. The solution is so blindingly obvious, sign Byram to a 4-5yr deal at 7.25 or whatever and then move on. Instead Adams is trying to force who? Calgary? St Louis? into a trade that they clearly aren't going to make and in the end it is just pushing Byram towards an offer sheet.

Bo Byram: 246 career games, he had his point total go up again even though he got basically no pp time. He had 7g, 38pts this past season. He had 75 hits and 116 blocked shots. He was a -5.8xgf% and only -2.6relcf%

Rasmus Andersson: 536 career games, he has had his totals drop every year since his 50pt peak. 49, 39, 31 this past year. Most hits is 63 and he had 36 last year. He is good at blocking shots with 196. -8.9xgf% last year. -6.4 relcf%

Why the ***** are we trading a younger, better defender for an older not as good defender? Byram has upside and Andersson wants to play in Vegas next year. Sign Byram and figure out the logjam of highly paid defenders some other day. Or trade him for a top 6 forward (which will cost the same on your cap) but we can't do that. Adams decided he was moving on from Bo and that's that. Adams is a narrow minded, one track sort of thinker and it is so painfully obvious he lacks the abilities needed to be a successful NHL gm.

You would think he could move Samuelsson to San Jose for anything just to clear the cap space. I like Bo and the only reason I'd move him is because of cap concerns and personally feel we need more help at forward now based on the current state of the roster and again emphasis on Center as to me it's a blaring hole.

There's no chance in hell St Louis offers to Thomas because they singed Suter. That's a 3rd line center.

I'm just looking at a way for them to lose cap space and get Bynam and way for them to sign him. Let me ask would you trade Bynam and Kulich or Helenius for Thomas? I'm just talking hypothetical as doubt Adams would do it.

But who would it take to balance out the money that Byram would get, plus that $2.5 million?

Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou both earn $8m per season. Kyrou been talked about a lot this off-season but if I'm the Sabres I'd push for Thomas as he plays C and the Blues have Schenn and Suter who can play C at a top 6 spot. Yet both have NYC so we'd have to convince them to come here.

Willander can probably play right now and the bottom six guy would be a good edgy type like Joshua or Sherwood.

Maybe Kevyn is holding out for Byram-level or Byram-lite defensive guy, or a young 2nd-line winger, but I think when all is said and done with Byram, people’s immediate reaction is going to be one of disappointment.

They might get value, but probably not if they hold out exclusively for veteran roster players.

I think they tipped their hands with the Peterka trade on the model they’re going for.

The Sabres will not be getting the best player in Byram deal unless they decide to keep him.

I mention many a time that Dawson Mercer is a guy I'd go after. As he had his best season playing under Ruff.  He could at least give us a Center we lack. Is he better than Byram? No but to me gives us more than Willander would. Heck maybe could get a throw in Kasper Pikkarainen in.

Don’t think I can get there, at least in terms of your second sentence.

Aren’t you essentially saying shoulda picked Beniers and kept Mittelstadt?

Or shouldn’t have traded Cozens and Savoie for guys who aren’t top 10 forwards?

If you simply mean Adams Botterill and Murray should have made better decisions in general, then yeah, sure.

I was screaming to draft Beniers when was obvious Eichel was gone.

Agreed.  The only way he's going away is if Dallas says, you know, that Byram kid looks like a good centerpiece in a package for Robertson and the Sabres end up needing to move Samuelsson in a separate deal to wind up cap compliant come October.  (And that AIN'T happening.  But it is nice to dream.)

Yeah and if be more pissed that we let Jacob Bernard-Docker go as he was a cheap defender that could replace Samuelsson imo.

Would consider Kulich to be the most likeliest of the Amerk F's to make the Sabres.  Kozak has an outside chance of making them on the 4th line.  Rosen, Östlund, Helenius, and Wahlberg might also get looks.  (But none will be on the big squad on opening night.)  Doubt any will be difference makers this year.  Kulich could be a difference maker but would much rather see him on the 3rd line than where he appears to be pencilled in on the top line.  He's good defensively for a guy as young as he is.  That stated, he got his lunch eaten last year regularly when going up against the top lines of top teams and there's no reason to believe it'd be that much different this year, at least early on.

Would be surprised if any other Amerk forward made the big club out of the gate.

Johnson is the most likely D-man to start the year in Buffalo, but if Byram and Samuelsson are both back he's a long shot.  (Expect they'd be better off letting him play in the A than have him riding the pine as the 8 in Buffalo.)  Don't believe either of the big Russians will be ready out of the gate.  Johnson will get opportunity.  The 2 Rooskies might also.

Would expect Levi to start the year in Ra-cha-cha, but he'll be up at some point.

Samuelsson ain't going anywhere with way KA went off on rumors we were going to cut him.

Canuck fans are so enamoured with Willander, they wouldn’t trade him straight across for Byram.

He’s good: roughly the equivalent of Mtrka in the sense that he projects as a high-floor all-around #2/3, but no one sees him as a #1 except Canuck fans.

The ask, IMO is fair for a player of Byram’s resume. It’s roughly the equivalent of what K’Andre Miller just got and what other 3rd contract #2/3 projections go for.

Yet the Sabres don't need bottom 6 forwards or D prospects. Makes no sense for us to make that move IMO.
