They screwed up the re-alignment. They should have created a "Great Lakes" division when they had the chance.... Buffalo, Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, and Pittsburgh. That would be great.

Ronald McDavid... I'm lovin' it

Let's look at some NHL records for ineptitude, shall we? Fewest Points by a team in one season: 21, by the 1974–75 Washington Capitals expansion team (80gp, 8-67-5). However, since the NHL started awarding points for overtime losses beginning in 1999-2000, by far the worst a team has ever finished is the expansion Atlanta Thrashers in the first season with three-point games, when they managed only 39 points. That team was outscored 313-170 on the season. Buffalo is on pace to match the Thrashers with 39 points, being outscored by a combined 290-101 which is a worse goal differential (-189) than the Thrashers (-143). Fewest Goals scored by a team in one season: 133, by the 1953–54 Chicago Blackhawks (70 games) ...our beloved Sabres on pace to shatter this record with a paltry 101 goals. Most Goals allowed by a team in one season: 446, by the 1974–75 Washington Capitals ....on pace to give up 290, nowhere near historically bad, but still terrible. Worst +/- by any player in any one season: Bill Mikkelson, -82 (1974–75) ...Ristolainen is a -13 through 17 games, on pace to finish -62. Worst Power Play Percentage in a Season: 9.35%, by the 1997–98 Tampa Bay Lightning ...Sabres PP% currently humming along at 5.7% (3 goals on 53 attempts). Amazingly the Wild are worse at 4.6% (2 goals on 44 attempts). Most Shutout Losses in a Season: 16 of 82 games played (19.5%), by the 2006–07 Columbus Blue Jackets ...Buffalo has been shutout 5 times in 17 games, on pace to be shutout an astounding 24 times. So, yeah, bottom line is that this team is historically bad offensively. If the goaltending starts to falter, then they could spiral downward even further reaching unimaginable depths.

Well, the fact that he's going to see a specialist this morning means they probably didn't find anything obviously broken on the x-rays but want to be sure all of the smaller bones in the hand are in-tact. If it was obviously broken, he'd be walking around in cast already... and that would be all over the internet by now. So, my guess is he'll probably be out at most a couple of weeks, no more.

http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL/Eastern/Atlantic/Buffalo.html ...the "What If" table at the bottom is somewhat interesting. Basically, if Buffalo plays about .500 hockey the rest of the way out, there is still a greater probability they finish first in the CHL than second. I could see them at best winning maybe another 20 games or so, which would put them clearly in first. We're quickly approaching the point were we can actually start cheering for them to lose.

Buffalo is still in control of their own destiny that's all that matters.

Eichel who just turned 18 is playing against mostly 20-23 year olds. McDavid is playing against 17-20 year olds. As a true freshman, Eichel is leading the entire country in scoring at almost 2 points a game. What Eichel is doing is just as impressive as the numbers McDavid is putting up against teenagers.

their problem is defense. Giving up bad goals and soft goaltending. Varlamov was incredible last season, singlehandedly keeping them in games. They'll get better.

4 point night for McDavid 3 point night for Eichel (so far) 2 point night for Buffalo in the CHL the hockey Gods have been kind these past couple days. Let's see what Reinhart can do tonight after scoring 2 in his first game yesterday.

Leino was a waste but Mezaros as a defenseman is often the oppositions best forward. He's on pace to finish -70.

Surely you paid a hefty premium for tickets featuring a match-up of CHL behemoths.

Huge 4 point game tonight in the CHL between league leader Buffalo hosting Edmonton. Buffalo could distance themselves from the pack with a win, and Carolina will be looking to pull even with the BJs.

Mike Weber is a terrible NHL defenseman. He will not be in the NHL next year, guaranteed. I like him tho, he's a straight up guy, works hard, etc... but the NHL is just too fast for him. He late on his reads, late picking up sticks and getting in passing lanes. God bless him, but he's not NHL caliber. HE WAS A -29 last year people!

If NYI finish in 9th worse or lower, those chances will increase to 25% or more.

just fyi, Jack Eichel's 5th ranked BU Terriers will be playing Noah Hanifin's 3rd ranked BC Eagles live on NBCSN this Friday 5pm ET. also, this was a nice goal recently by McDavid: eichel goal: nicely done sabres highlight reel:

So much pessimism here. If they finish DFL, they have the best chance of getting McDavid than any other team in the league. Or they finish 2nd from last and they could still win the lottery, or even 3rd or 4th last and still get McDavid. Also, Eichel or McDavid are not gonna turn this franchise around on their own... it's more about the supporting cast. For all we know Reinhart might have a better career than both of them. Bottom line is the Sabres are bad and they will be bad for a few more seasons no matter who they draft. What's important is they draft wisely and develop them the right way. The collective "woe is me" attitude of "just because we're Buffalo" is an embarrassment to the city and those of us who grew up there.

Indeed. Buffalo is in full control of their destiny. I would love to be a fly on the wall in the locker room after games or when Nolan and Murray have their daily chat. What can you possibly say to a team that is simply out classed no matter how hard they play? and what does Nolan and Murray talk about? This is history in the making folks. Buffalo is on pace to score <90 goals this season. That's 40 goals less than the all time record! Their top scorer might get 40 points. On pace to be shutout 35 times breaking the record of 16 by 19 games.

7 points for Nov. tough schedule... MON 3 times, PIT 2 times, DET, STL, MIN. They might get points vs EDM, WAS, and WIN, and then maybe push a couple to OT.
