  1. If there was ever a role for a guy like John Scott, the next three years would be it. Young players that you are mortgaging your franchise on who need to be protected from those who aren't afraid to be tough when they are the biggest guys on the ice. Sign a guy like this, dress him for 15-20 games and make sure bad things don't happen. As long as the league refuses to punish certain players and teams, I think this is a necessity.

As of right now, Stewart is probably the best fighter on the team and he might be gone by opening night. And I'm not advocating for Scott, I'm thinking they need to find the next John Scott for this role.

I don't disagree with your overall point but the problem is the league has basically castrated Scott by calling him for every-freakin-thing.

Also, nobody has mentioned McCormick. He may not make any of us forget about Rayzer or Playfair but at least he's always ready to go when the need arises...

  2. Peca is on GR talking now. He said he ran into Toews awhile ago who asked where he lived. Peca told him Buffalo and Toews said, "Yeah I heard that's a great place to live."

No doubt. Buffalo is looked upon much more favorably by hockey people than by the average Buffalonian.

  3. GMTM said "...they know we will be adding 2-3 very good players through the draft for the next 3-4 years." Did he just let slip that he expects us to suck for 3-4 MORE YEARS? I don't know about you guys, but a five year tank would be unbearable to me...

I think he was referring to the guys already in the organization, the guys we just drafted, plus the guys we'll take next year that will be graduating to the big club.

  4. you make a lot of sense. Basically we will be giving big contracts to players with potential...we hope. Who knows, it just might work out in the long run

    Thanks.

And keep in mind that if the FAs crash and burn, they were only placeholders and the goal was still achieved - we got to the cap floor.

I think the only thing GMTM and Co are concerned with is signing guys that are hard working on and off the ice, that are hard to play against, and can show the young guys by example what it takes to play in the NHL.

    Just my take.

  5. I don't get it either. No one wants to play for a loser and our GM has basically stated we will simply be the worst of the worst this coming season. I don't see how we even hit the cap floor.

    I disagree.

You're a 3rd/4th line guy who thinks you could be a top 6 player if only given the minutes - you just want a chance to prove yourself. Then along comes Buffalo, offers you top 6 minutes and a $2.5MM raise compared to a lesser role elsewhere. What do you do?

You're a guy who has been clinging to an NHL roster for the past year - scratched a bunch of times and not many teams are showing interest. You consider you might even be out of the league this season, forced to ride buses to road games in the 'A' and hope for an injury call up. Then along comes from Buffalo, offers you $2MM. What do you do?

Those are the guys who would jump at the chance of playing in Buffalo this season.

  6. Murray on Erhoff: "I’ve said at the start that if you don’t want to be here we’ll make it happen. He’s made I believe $22 million in three years and feels that we’re not going in the right direction, but he really hasn’t had much part in the direction the team has gone. So time to move on."

But frankly, Tim Murray says, Christian Ehrhoff's desire to not be part of the Sabres and defenseman's inability to improve team are huge.

Sabres GM Tim Murray says he's made it clear that if someone doesn't want to be in Buffalo, he'll get them out. So bye, Christian Ehrhoff.

And in related news, I've committed to stepping up to to help the team:

@BuffNewsVogl Please tell Murray I can help - I'll take $8MM on a 1 yr deal to help the club reach the cap floor
