Peverly has an irregular heartbeat. He missed the entire preseason dealing with it and missed a game last week due to it. It's a serious condition, obviously, but it's something that both he and the Stars are aware of.

I want compensation. Buffalo gave Washington a legitimate starting goalie. The price/trade was imbalanced so Washington threw in a player. That player did not report. There needs to be compensation to level the trade. It should be a low round draft pick.
For those not paying attention, Halak won for Washington last night. So Washington has already benefited from the trade.
What you're missing is that teams do not technically trade players. They trade the NHL rights and contracts of the players. If a player fails to report, show up. whatever, that has nothing to do with the team who traded his rights. The league could step in and offer some sort of compensation - most likely in the form of a late round draft pick - but all the Caps did was trade his rights, along with Neuvirth's, for Havak's and a draft pick. The deal is done and over...

Does anyone know if the Sabres have any recourse with Washington?
No. It is possible the NHL could step in and offer some sort of compensation, but the Caps are off the hook.

After reading through all of the mystery surrounding Lafontaine's departure, I suddenly had an idea:
What if Patty made a serious mistake (which even good people do from time to time), something so serious that an immediate termination was warranted. Moreover, because the error was so egregious and embarrassing, either Lafontaine, the Sabres, or both parties, desired a confidentiality agreement signed in order to protect all parties.
What kind of mistake would warrant this? What kind of mistake would warrant immediate termination, and a mutual muzzling of all parties?
A possibility: an affair with another man's wife in the organization. Once discovered, Patty would want it hushed to protect his reputation, if not his marriage. The organization would want it hushed to protect itself from having its name tarnished. And the other man would want to protect his name, as well as perhaps that of his wife.
Just a shot in the dark, but it seems plausible to me.
WTF?

Black confirmed on WGR this morning that they created the position of president for Pat. They are, indeed, making it up as they go.
Or,
they demonstrated the flexibility and agility requried to address the challenges presented by an organizational restructuring to better position themselves for sustainable success.
It's all a matter of perpective...

Eh. The defenseman made that play seem much more dynamic than it actually was. I think he just got lucky that he stepped the way he did.
The D-man definitely misplayed it by stepping up but it was a nice move. I have a feeling if he tries that in the NHL he's going to get smoked more often than not.

Didn't he play in Montreal one time?
I think I remember a Caps playoff series in which he played pretty well... maybe he plays for Washington?

I'm excited for the Draft. Not just to see who the Sabres select, but to see if they go shopping - which I think they will - and who they acquire.

Can you imagine Etem if he ends up here for Moulson? His head would explode. In fact, I think I want it to happen for just that reason.
I met him when he played for the Norfolk Admirals last year and asked him why he didn't like Bflo. He said he called it a ghost town because of the boarded up businesses and because he didn't see as many people bustling about like you do in other cities' downtowns.
He might've been blowing smoke, but to me he seemed pretty genuine.

Bucky has had a vendetta against the Sabres for so long (Harrington also has had an ax to grind). Neither one of these guys comes anywhere close to the standard that Jim Kelley set.
It is clear that Bucky has "taken sides" - he did so a long time ago.
Regarding PLF, one thing that sticks out to me is that the Islanders have erased all mention of one of their greatest players. Whether PLF was an unpaid assistant and only in that role for 40 days, one wonders what a guy could have done to cause an organization to go out of their way to actually go out of their way to act as though the guy never existed.
On the other hand, the Pegulas have a reputation for being wonderful people to work for. Ask people such as Lindy Ruff or Steve Ott (people no longer with the team) what they think of the Pegulas. The Pegulas were the ones that went out of their way and had the idea to hire PLF. You do not go and hire someone to be an executive with the team (someone who was on no ones radar other than the Pegulas) with the desire to screw the guy over.
Nevertheless, the guys from the News always have the knee jerk reaction to "choose sides" against the Sabres and its ownership -- because it fits the narrative that they have been pushing for so long.
The Pegulas even kept Darcy around when guys like Sully (and the rest) were clamoring for them to fire Darcy on day one. Given their track record of showing loyalty to people such as Darcy (when they could have fired him as their first move to garner PR points with the News and others), one wonders what could have happened to cause this to end so quickly (as with the Islanders). Perhaps, Paul Hamilton's comments about the public and private personas are correct.
Given the above, I am going to give the benefit of any doubt to the people who have put their money where their mouths are both in terms of the hockey team and the community.
On the other hand, we know that guys like Bucky and Harrington and Sully are not going to give them the benefit of the doubt because it simply does not fit their narrative.
Just my two cents.
Well said.

Uh....actually he said Nolan shouldn't let the door hit him in the rear. He was commenting on Teddy's comment after PLF left, that it showed a lack of commitment to the Sabres and that Murray could do better than Nolan. Millbury also put the whole affair on PLF, drawing a parallel to his brief Isles tenure. Millbury basically said PLF is a big baby who bolts when he doesn't get his way.
PTR
That's the way I heard it too.
And for the first time in the history of history, I agree with Millbury.
Edit: I agree with Millbury in that if Nolan isn't 100% on board, Murray needs to help him by making a decision for him.

Jay-Zee's company - Yormark's must be headed to the sports management business. What is RocNation?

Don't know what Nolan's thinking, but I gotta believe it's in his best interest to accept the contract. It took him so long to get back into the league, and it seems that he's now considering walking away from it? Career suicide.
I disagree with your take that he would be a fall guy - everybody knows the skill level of this team. Further, doesn't it seem like Murray's no BS style would mesh very well with Nolan's approach?
We'll find out soon enough if Ted's too butt-hurt to handle the PLF situation professionally. I hope he does but if he doesn't, it's not the end of the world. A lot more hinges on what Murray does between now and next October than whether Nolan leaves today, next week, or after the season.

LOL...
And slowly, but predictably the crowd begins to turn on Ted Nolan.
So far the only one who can do no wrong, has done no wrong and has earned the blind faith of this board, is the least proven piece, Mr. Murray..
Who's turned on Nolan?
If he's too unprofessional to deal with a friend's seperation from the organization, then why would a Sabres fan want him to stay? If he's just frustrated and needs a couple of days to sort it out and signs the contract, then it's all good.
Not everyone sees this situation to be as melodramatic as you do.
-
Here's what we know: Patty reportedly resigned and has not publicly challenged that assertion. Nolan is butt-hurt. Murray only wants players, coaches, and management in Buffalo who want to be associated with the team.
Here's what I think: As a player I loved Patty. On camera I liked Patty. But the bottom line is that he quit. With all due respect Mr LaFontaine, GTFO and don't look back. And if Nolan decides to walk, then screw him too. I am quite confident in Murray's ability to find a replacement.

I hear you but the dramatic language, though hyperbole, is so much fun to use and in this case more like a cattle prod to keep the weasels who created this problem squirming. I think someone's head should role and I want a scapegoat. If Battista is the designated sacrifice... fine... if it be someone else so be it, but someone in TPegs inner circle should fall on their sword and the sooner a volunteer comes forward the better. It has to happen.
Yes, because I'm sure T-Pegs comes on here daily to give a flying ###### about your "disgust." /sarcasm

Thank goodness they're playing tonight. The kvetching about the on-ice product has GOT to be better than the kvetching I read in the Mgmt Shakeup thread...

I'm not ready to say goodbye yet. Let's see what the next 5 days bring.
Solid as a f---ing rock.
I hate that the Sabres have gotten to this place, but you better prepare yourself soon. It's happening.

I definitely think Miller should play his normal rotatation right up until he is traded, but to be fair to Millbank, he's not alone in thinking that way. I think it's been said here by some posters, and I read an article on sitting him after the Carolina game.

I still fantasize about getting my hands on an EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle.

Stop it. You're Canadian.

It's his number from his days at Michigan State (and maybe before). For obvious reasons, he didn't want to wear 39 in Bflo. You know, that's the first time I ever noticed Miller wore #39 for that tournament.
all right thats it .....@#@$#@@@#$@#@..........@#@#@@#@#@%&*% and further more #$%#@%&*%

I thinnk you identified the thing that changed. And I agree, he's been an entirely different player. It's nice to see.
