  1. Thinking Tage will be back Tuesday too ....

Thanks for the correction, I think I was looking at the standings and they weren't updated yet.  Sounds like they are definitely within striking distance!

    yep:

6 behind NYI with 3 in hand and hold tiebreaker

4 Behind FLA with 2 in hand and we hold tiebreaker and play them next

3 behind PIT but with only 1 in hand + they have a much easier closing schedule, so they may be tough to catch

Just some quick thoughts on this game.

    Tuck gets the first star.

UPL gets the second star. He made a lot of good saves.

Mitts played well. He got three assists in this game. He made a number of high-end passes. The drop pass to Tuch for a score was impressive.

Krebs made a precise pass to Okposo for his score. And Quinn made another nice pass along the boards to Tuch for the SH goal. For a big man Tuch can be nifty. He also has a quick shot.

I liked Joki in this game. Power's game is so efficient that sometimes you don't appreciate how well he is playing.

Considering this was a back to back game I liked the Sabres effort. Sometimes they had difficulty getting the puck out of their zone but they kept pushing.

I was surprised that Granato went with UPL in net. The coach has a pulse of the team and his players. Maybe the addition of Levi elevates this big goalie's game.

In the past 5 games the Sabres have earned 9 out of 10 points. The Sabres have played with Tage out of the lineup and when he was hurting. Collectively, the players are stepping up.

Attached is a link of the standings from NHL.com. I didn't think that the Sabres could get to 90 points. I may be wrong. That would be a 15 point improvement from the previous year. That's progress.

I agree with everything except Joker was god-awful tonight.  A turnover machine who was mostly responsible for Goal #2 against. I nthat last PK he tried to give a goal away by clearing right to the Flyer in front instead of clearing it down the ice.

Sloppy game. So many turnovers and a terrible start but fortunately Philly is garbage so we took it to them in the second and finally beat those hacks. Great game for Tuch.

Obviously, the Florida game is indeed a playoff like game. Levi against the team that traded him? I think it should be.

Levi will play Tuesday.  We were so awful with turnovers tonight - my guess is the sh*tty ice surface led to at least some of this

If he beats out UPL and Comrie, yes, it would be better for him to be with the Sabres than with the Amerks.  If he's better than those two, what's the point of putting him in Rochester?  He will get just as much game action in Buffalo.

you nailed the logic - unless he struggles badly in the last 5 games he plays in this year he will never play in a game in Rochester

Philly has destroyed us this year. The games haven't even been competitive. We have played better against the Bruins.

Yep, but if you watch the game recaps, our goalie (Anderson) in those 2 games was very bad - he gave us no chance whatsoever:

March 17 game - we outshot them 38-22 but Anderson allowed 5 goals on 22 shots for a sterling sav% of .773, possibly his worst game of the year

Jan 9 game - Anderson gives up 3 goals in the 1st and we mail it in from there.  we're outshot 31-26 but again not Anderson's best moment

I suspect Comrie tonight and Levi or Anderson in Florida Tuesday.

Guessing one of our EHL level goalies tonight (prob UPL) nd definitely Levi Tuesday.  Too bad as (a) Levi is used to btb's and (b) if we win tonight and PIT loses to BOS, things get a whole lot more interesting.  I'm worried about both outcomes cuz we have sucked vs PHI this year and Boston may have a letdown tonight after clinching the Presidents trophy.  Granted, if the playoffs started today, BOS would play PIT so maybe that will motivate them?

  7. RAe standards for goalies are still too low.  Goals 1 and 2 by Comrie were garbage and when he has a chance to close out the game, he basically scores on himself.

BTW, do the sabres even practice penalty shots, we score on one which is a total mistake and the other 5 weren't even close - pretty pathetic.

Oh and f*ck the refs - that call in OT was ridiculously bad - they ignore real penalties and make up a call on Krebs

    Anderson vs Saros tonight

    Yep our 3 NHL goalies:

    1. A geriatric who has nothing left

    2. A guy who's ranked 68th out of 68 goalies who KA thought was a good one to sign to be a #1 NHl goalie

    3. a big lug with no angle control, no rebound control was lousy in the EHL, lousy in the AHL why would he be less than lousy in the NHL?

I read a stat today that in the Boston 7-0 loss, Boston scored on 4 of 8 high chance shots (apparently UPL also got scored on 3 time on non high chance shots) while Buffalo went 0-8.  Buffalo also outshot Boston by 1.  Every game it's like we start down 3 goals due to the difference in goaltending.

Saros vs Anderson is a joke

Attached is a link from NHL.com showing the standings. The loss was disappointing because of the penalty call against Tuch. This was a victory that we allowed to be snatched out of our grasp. It wasn't a smart play on Tuch's part. Getting the point for the SO loss is somewhat of a consolation.

This was a game that is difficult to say who stood out. On the blue line I liked the play of Power and I thought that Lyubushkin had a good game.

There were too many occasions where the Sabres were stuck in their own zone with the Capitals controlling the puck.

UPL in the shootout is a disaster. He's worse than Lehner in SOs. The goal off his chest was a bad goal but the other goals in regulation can't be blamed on him. I still get nervous when he is in between the pipes.

The Sabre play of the game for me was Krebs pass to Gergs who converted. Krebs fought to get the puck, dig it out behind the net and then get it to Gergs.

UPL isn't an NHL goalie and never will be. goal off chest was bad but so was the 4th goal.  He's on his knees with a bad angle to Wilson, for no reason whatsoever.  All he has to do is stay on his feet and the shot hits him in the chest.  Needed a save there nad, per usual he failed

Usually looks like Patrick Roy in the first half of games. Then always seems to ***** the bed late.

Did you seriously watch the game?  UPL is the sole reason it wasn't 7-2.  winning goal was garbage - not sure why it would count and 2nd goal was caused by a stupid giveaway by Klague compounded by Klague deciding to vacate his responsibilities in front of his own not.

The D we are starting is a direct implication of KA ignoring d at the trade deadline.   He desperately needed to make a trade for an NHL dman but didn't. Stillman is a good AHL one and it's not like trading for one would have blocked any D prospects
