The American Hockey League’s two most storied franchises continue their fourth-round playoff series tonight as the Eastern Conference Finals remain in Rochester for Game 4 at The Blue Cross Arena. After Rochester cruised to a 5-1 victory in the series opener, the Bears responded with back-to-back wins to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series. Hershey’s win in Game 3 on Saturday was the team’s fourth straight on the road. The Bears, who have won eight of their first 10 matchups in the postseason, are a perfect 4-0 on the road and have outscored the opposition 17-6 in the playoffs. Anchored by second-year goaltender Hunter Shephard, the Bears have held the opposition to two or fewer goals in all but one of their 10 postseason games this spring, the lone execption being the Amerks’ 5-1 win in Game 1. Thursday’s 2-0 loss in Game 2 snapped the team’s seven-game playoff win streak and was the second time this spring the Amerks were shutout in the second game of a playoff series. Zach Metsa scored his first professional goal in Saturday’s Game 3 loss. Over their most recent seven-game win streak, the Amerks outscored the opposition 41-21, including 12-3 in the first period over that span. About 50 tickets remain unsold for tonight’s game. GDT - 5/27/23 - Hershey @ Rochester - Game 3 ECF - 7:05 pm

If Hershey wins by playing tackle football the rest of the series (like game three), the league and the sport have a real problem. This isn’t “built physical/tough for the playoffs.” This is bad hockey. Hershey is a better defensive team than ROC. Hershey has a better goaltender. On paper, the Bears should breeze through the series. But if we are going to accept the crap we saw tonight and justify that as “playoff hockey,” then the problem is either the officiating or the game itself. I am not saying ROC deserved to win tonight, but I am saying that the Bears defense/goaltending don’t need the help of the nonsense being let go by the officials. Also, I’m not the only one who sees it that way (paywall): -
There isn’t an emoji option on this board to appropriately reflect the perfection of this statement. But I’ll try: 🔥🔥🔥
-
Is this speculation? I haven’t heard anything official.

Saturday night game three is already a complete sellout in ROC (over 10,600). Monday being a holiday and a 6pm start, that might mean the same fate. Meaningful hockey in May!!!!

On another note, this goalie Bob run is reminding me of the J.S. Giguere Ducks run when he won the Conn Smyth after losing the cup final. Jiggy went 15-6, 1.62 GAA, .945 sv%, and 5 SO. Goals saved v expected wasn’t a thing yet, so hard to truly compare. But Bob is rocking a 10-2, 2.15 GAA, .935 sv% in a livelier puck era. Incredible.

Assuming you meant how our tank fruit is successful after moving on. I got a couple of “Sam Reinhart v. Jack Eichel for the cup 😳🥴” texts. My response is it’ll work out for Buffalo too.
-
Agree he needs seasoning in some areas. And perhaps Buffalo wants him in ROC until he can crack the top six with the big club. But I would not be surprised if Kulich made the Sabres…to me, he’s the most ready of the prospects not yet in the show (including Savoie).
-
Kulich is closer than you’re giving him credit for. Even if it is a third line/PP2 role (VO Slot). He has an NHL shot today and is faster than average. The Sabres have also shown their preference to develop in-house at the NHL level.
-
Our tenth-twelfth forward who is immeasurably important off the ice. I’ll take it. This young team doesn’t want to let down dad. This can help keep the team accountable as it ascends.

Rival Sons a week from tonight at Town Ballroom!

This post saved my bacon. I wasn’t paying attention to a pre-sale, and would have been super upset if I was shut out or had junky seats. Thank you both!

Unsure, but I saw Donnie Meatballs in a suite in the second intermission above section 221.

Borgen is having a tough night at a bad time for it. -
I can give you the long answer via NSFW Reddit/YouTube link or the short answer: a hot dog. It’s a Coney Island thing.

That’s cool. He was having a little “fun” with Sabres fans on twitter in the past. Quote: “In 2011, he switched his avatar to a photograph of him holding a replica Stanley Cup and wearing a "Brett Hull is a Cheater" shirt.” Then there was the “Happy halloween to all my friends in Buffalo!" tweet with his pumpkin carving of the No Goal sequence. I am not trying to change your mind, but try to explain why people outside of your region might not agree. -
I’ve been looking around for this, but can’t find it anywhere. Where did you see it?

Brett Hull has been wiping Sabres faces in it since then. It’s cool you have a softer spot for the local team. I don’t think Buffalo (by and large) agrees with you. -

After ‘99, there’s just no way I can get there. To me, the Panthers are the lesser of two evils. -
I went to the PGA in 2013 having played five rounds of golf in my life. If you’re a beer guy, that thing can be fun. Great shots/birdie puts are a party. Golf fans are passionate (being a hockey fan, passionate about your sport is understandable). 1) I was over-served and 2) I had a ball. As for ROC on Wednesday, all of the following are walkable from the arena’s front door: 1)Dinosaur BBQ is the traditional pre-game spot, but it’s a restaurant first (and cramped at the bar). 2) Exchange Sports Bar—kinda sterile and meh. Lots of TVs. Nothing special. 3) Mythology Restaurant & Lounge—my pick if you get there early and sit at the bar. They are kind of like the new place that gets surprised that they’re busy. Some outdoor seating (but weather doesn’t look ideal). Decent spot that might get crowded just because it’s a sell-out crowd. I would like to join, but I’ll have a 12 year old with me for the game. Enjoy! Definitely eat before entry because concessions will not be prepared for the number in attendance.
