  1. Just now, he totally hyped up Sylvester's efforts doing fill-in PBP, going so far as to suggest that fans need to cut him some slack because it's difficult to "replace a legend". My fear is that any criticism lobbed at Kevin Sylvester's PBP will be misconstrued as fans being unable to accept whoever steps in following Rick's retirement rather than taken as an honest and unbiased assessment.
  2. Terrific deke by Kassian in the shootout to win it--- made it look effortless. Honestly, reminded me of Vanek.
  3. Good for him, I hope he has a nice career. This 2nd period is the first chance I've had to watch Vancouver. Schneider looks a bit shaky.
  4. Kassian just scored on Kiprusoff early in the 2nd period with a nice effort after a he was denied on a wraparound. Giordano gloved the puck out of the crease right onto Zach's stick and got off two quick shots, burying his own rebound. He doesn't look out of place so far in this period, I'll say that much.
  5. I heartily agree with everything you've posted. Regarding Winnipeg--- it may have something to do with the fact the Jets just returned after being ripped away from them 16 years ago. Just a hunch. FWIW, I don't think the Jets home opener sounded particularly raucous on TV, but I didn't watch from start to finish.
  6. I would guess the added distraction of wearing 30lbs of hockey equipment, crouching in a butterfly stance with 10 other grown men skating, checking and slashing all around you for 60 minutes wearing skates while trying to track and block a small disc of vulcanized rubber might make it more difficult to concentrate. He's not doing a crossword puzzle with the radio on, after all.
  7. I'll point out--- I suggested "scrambley" because Ray used to overuse that fake word whenever trying to describe the action if the Sabres were nervous or not in sync. I'm not really sure if he still says it as often or if I just no longer notice it. It does seem to fit his broadcasting style at times.
  8. I noticed that little moment with Ray about JVR. He does come across a bit smarmy but he doesn't commit to it. I say if you're going to be a dick, go full Burke, don't turtle.
  9. Thanks, that's somewhat of a relief. Geez, that would suck. I associate Sylvester with the Quinn era and a certain kind of fan that emerged post-lockout that embraced the likes of Roy, Kotalik and Afinogenov. Perhaps that's unfair, but the bottom line is he's not a particularly good broadcaster nor is he a hockey guy.
  10. Does this fear stem from any kind of inside knowledge of the situation or is it merely speculation? I pray for the latter...
  11. Draws are going to be a problem all season. This is where the argument for Darcy to push for Ryan O'Reilly could almost become pivotal. No, I think it's a must. The only caveat I can give Ruff is that Grigs hasn't had enough time to learn the PP well enough to feel comfortable. I can barely buy into that myself, but it's only been 2 games and I'm clinging to some kind of rationale.
  12. Brian Duff just convinced me Grigorenko didn't ###### up when he clearly ###### up.
  13. Razor's defending that #32 pretty hardcore. The petition must've worked.
  14. You're right on both counts. Weber was already working for Nashville at that time. I believe I was thinking of Dan Dunleavy, who was referenced in the old thread that IKnowPhysics linked to. The "illness" was apparently only 2 games and was covered by Jim Lorentz. Everything's blurring together.
  15. This is better. We only thought LA was sparkly, flashy and too good for us after she left because we were distraught from her rejection. Once we finished our mourning period we realized our infatuation was superficial at best and started dating Niagara Falls on the rebound. She's a little trashy but still exotic enough to keep it interesting.
  16. The Sabres used to own the ACC. I think their names were actually on the lease.
  17. Yes, Chris Butler. Too soon? EDIT: Fake Milestone - 1,000 posts
  18. I can agree it needs to go if for no other reason than it implies a lot of 1 goal games.
  19. Chicago is the cousin that recalls us much less fondly than we recall them. We're excited to talk to them whenever we see them but utterly disappointed that they'd rather do shots with New York and swap stories with Boston. Los Angeles is the ex that was out of our league from the start which we took for granted. Sexy and much too sophisticated for us although we didn't realize it until they dumped our ass and moved out to the coast.
  20. To my vegan brother, via thesaurus.com: plunder, steal, bleed, burn*, cheat*, clip, con, cozen, defraud, despoil, flimflam, gouge, hustle, jerk around, milk, mulct, overcharge, pluck, rifle, rip off, rob, rook, rope in, run a game on, sell a bill of goods, shaft*, strip, swindle, take for a ride, take to the cleaners
  21. It's like watching an ex argue with another dude.
  22. Damn, that's good stuff. Hartnell ran away from the bigger fish. Stafford didn't. The first isn't surprising, but the 2nd is. How his teammates can respect him, I don't know. 30+ goals doesn't make up for running to the bench rather than clean up your mess.
