$9 x 5 years would be my offer to Pietrangelo. He is a great skater so he is not going to fall off a cliff. Stick him besides Dahlin and you have one of the best d tandems in hockey while developing Dahlin into a superstar. Great defender on both the PP and PK. Tremendous leader with a Stanley Cup. Go with Pietrangelo, joker, Borgen on RD and trade Risto, Montour and Miller for a 2C and an upgrade in net. I doubt he is coming to Buffalo but if he was interested he is the type of player you have to go after to help change the franchise.

But what is the term and length of the deal you are willing to go? $9x 5 years would be perfect but not likely. What if the ask is $11 x 7 years. He is 30 right now.

For years and years I have watched people list one teams prospects and declare them on the verge of a dynasty. 9 times out of 10 most of the prospects never turn out to be anything. Prospects are nothing until they actually make an impact at the NHL level. They are all lotto tickets. The more you have the better but there are no guarantees. Yes, the Sabres could use some more but they also need some impact NHL players. They can’t go two more years without the playoffs.

Larry. Clifford is a UFA that adds toughness and is known as a real locker room guy with leadership. He can play 4th line and isn’t going to break the bank. Keep Larry, add Clifford.

I’m not so sure if Monahan is the target. He is not Ralph’s type of player (200 foot) and all the chatter is that Ralph will have a lot of say in roster development.

Grandlund is a UFA. He mentioned him as someone Adams might be interested in after Adams was announced.

Monahan for Risto, do it while they are reeling and not thinking straight?

If we could acquire a 2C without trading #8 and then land Rossi or Lundell in the draft they would be in good shape down the middle and could use Cozens as a scoring RW.

It is not about just getting a player like Monahan. It is about an all in plan to upgrade around the big acquisition. This is where Murray failed with ROR. He didn’t properly bring in the other pieces to give the team enough quality depth to compete. someone like Monahan or Cirelli would be great starts but the goaltending needs to be addressed, they need to actually have a plan to build the d corps in a way that makes sense with Krueger’s system and bring in more depth up front.

Hopefully Mike Bales could put in a good word. If Botts was here I would imagine it would be a possibility but I don’t know with Adams. Did they ever play together? I have heard that the Pens players thought Gonchar was excellent in the past. Him mentoring Dahlin and Joker would be tremendous.

Yeah, it makes no sense. Half the league is looking for RHD. Montour should bring back a quality top 6 forward piece.

I know you said you were asked not to mention the team involved but do you know all the players involved? If so, What is your personal Feeling on the trade if it goes through? How do you think fans will generally feel about it.

If this is legit then I think people are missing the significance of the last sentence. “Add significantly depending on playoff performance” to me rules out vets such as Stephan or Monahan. It would lend credence to a younger player still developing their value. Someone like a Cirelli or a Strome.
