I hope he signs soon so people can move on from the “he’s not going to sign” phase to the “he signed but he isn’t going to live up to expectations” phase

I feel like we might be sleeping on just how good he is. Outside of Bedard he might be the most electrifying player in junior hockey right now. Not just straight stats but the way he impacts games. Just thinking in that 2 years Savoie , Östlund And Kulich could all be making an impact up front.

Good discussion. Outside about 5 goalies it is way too hard to determine how good a goalie will be year to year. Everyone thought Calgary hit a homer in signing Markstrom. He has fallen on his face. Gustavsson in Minny has years of mediocre play. This season he is near the top in a lot of categories. Leafs are gambling on two reclamation projects to take them to the promise land. If one of those top goalies becomes available then try to go all in on him. There are too many middling goalies that you don’t know what you are going to get from year to year. Hart is having a better year after a few tirefire years. Do you believe he will be better playing behind the Sabres system. Big gamble. If a stabilizer like Saros is available then go for him. If Demko is available then you are betting he returns to pre injury form. I would role the dice on him. if you are going to get a goalie go for the best you can. Get a stabilizer in net.

Tremendous on the PK. Really good in our zone with positioning and keeping players to the outside. No idea where the lack of speed takes are coming from. He can skate and process the game. I think some people have fallen into the bitch just to bitch zone.

From my end he just oozes skill in a 6’2 package. He was all everything for his MHL team last year and has held his own as a 19 year old in the KHL this season. Sabres said they had a first round grade on him which makes the Finnish goalie in the 2nd round even more of a head scratcher. They got him in the 3rd though.

Granato and Adams are right that most of the improvement the next 24 months will be internal. Leaps by guys like Quinn, Power, Krebs, JJ will improve the team. But to really get serious they need a stabilizer in net and a top 4 dman that is a difference maker. What we have seen is that Adams gets that too. He has tried to make moves to shore up the net. He tried to get Chychrun to upgrade the top 4. He needs to find a way to deliver this offseason. This team isn’t far off from being a contender for years to come. Find those 2 key pieces to compliment all the youth coming on and you are off to the races.

Who is this Marino clown? That is a terrible interpretation of what Friedman was saying. First of all it was just Friedman thinking out loud, not anything he has heard as official and vetted info. 1) he heard Rumors that UPL was available and that sabres were looking for a goalie. Sabres were upset that the story leaked. 2) Friedman thinks they were upset because they want Levi to sign and thinks if they got another goalie it might block his path. 3) Friedman THINKS that they wanted to show Levi a clear path to be starter next season if he was good enough. 4) Chad D said he spoke to a source who said the story is BS. Hutson is talented but at 5’9, 150lbs he has a big hill to climb. I agree with you that the pick is dicey right now and someone like Luneau or Warren would have been better value.

This tells me he should sign soon. They know they are out.

I hope Adams turns every rock over this summer. If he can find a top pairing guy and move Muel down that would be great. They need defensively inclined options that can play at the NHL level. In the mold of a Gavrikov or Ryan Graves. I’m not worried about handiness. Ryan Johnson plays a smart defensive game that relies on skating and positioning. He won’t crunch anyone but he is effective. He could be an option on the 3rd pairing. In that case they still need a reliable top 4 that can excel defensively.

Someone posted the advanced analytics when he was on the ice for the Kings since the trade. It was ridiculous. He is a defensive impact player, something this team is DESPERATE for. Let’s Dahlin or Power let loose, improves the PK. Plays a physical game.

Guys like Gavrikov, Dumba and Graves will be on the UFA market. As far as trade I have no idea who will be available. Some teams will have to make moves for cap reasons. Gavrikov and Graves would be just what the doctor ordered. Big, defensively inclined dmen. But they won’t be cheap. Gavrikov will have plenty of suitors.

Dahlin went hard into the boards on that rush where he setup Vic in front. He struggled over to the bench.

No one is arguing they are playing well but the problems with the team are bigger then just the goalies. There need to be a fundamental change in how they play defence. That includes forwards and d corps.
