  1. The proximity to Southern Ontario didn't prevent the team from nearly relocating two different times (early 90's if the new arena wasn't built, early 2000's if Gollisano didn't step in and save us). And according to Paul Weiland the % of ticket holders from Canada is roughly 13% so that isn't as big as you think. And as for demographics I have seen numerous articles on cities on the decline and they always mention Buffalo. But even if I were to concede the point it isn't dying rapidly it is still the second smallest market in the NHL, just ahead of Winnipeg. So yeah...
  2. Jesus Christ. We beat Quebec 3-0 in the 1986 first round and lost in 7 to eventual champions Montreal in 7 on an OT goal by Claude Lemieux at The Forum. The next season we won the Adams Division but lost to Quebec in the first round. The team would have one more winning season in our history (think it was 89-90 where we took the rooinz to 7 games) before the worst GM in the history of pro sports Ed Johnston killed the team dead with his idiocy.
  3. In the all too brief period where the team was good in the mid 80's the team certainly had support: when we won a playoff round (not a cup, not the conference, A SINGLE PLAYOFF ROUND) there was a goddamned parade held in the city with tens of thousands of people. Nearly 20 years later when Carolina won a cup their celebration was a few thousand people in a ***** parking lot. The team was purchased by Rich Gordon who proceeded to completely destroy the team by by running it in the most incompetent manner possible and destroying all the hard work Howard Baldwin did in making them so successful. The team being a punching bag/laughingstock is what killed them, not the nonsense about market size. If the Whalers had ever won a cup the number of rags and rooinz fans in CT would've fallen off a cliff. And as for you saying it can't happen here: what's the second fastest dying major city in America (that also lacks the well off areas of the suburbs of the fastest dying city)?
  4. YAY another person who buys the NHL's ***** propaganda about why they had to murder the Whalers  Don't think you'd like to know our fate if Botts traded Jack for whomever would be a modern day equivalent of John Cullen so yeah, you might want to slow your roll on that one.
  5. And if I win Powerball I will buy the Coyotes and move them to Hartford as the new Whalers (which has just about the same chance of happening as this team ever making the playoffs under Botts much less next season).
  6. I am not so sure of that last bit: for the series in 2007 vs the rags the MSG WNY feed not only had a much higher rating than MSG but more people watching as well.
  7. If a laffs fan wanted to go there I remind them only one NHL team has ever been awarded a trophy on the Scotiabank Place and it was NOT the laffs. Also if the Sabres got to play 25 or so seasons in a 6 team league we would have won a couple of cups.
  8. Justin could never be a king because the shoe polish on his face would get all over the crown.
  9. And of course Chuck Kaiton: 23 years later and it still hurts. I pray every day for that rat bastard Karmanos to die a horrible death so that I may have the pleasure of dancing on his grave to the tune of the Brass Bonanza.
  10. Not knowing anything about the site the very first question I have is who labeled them as an "extremist site"? There are numerous groups dedicated to labeling people and groups as "extremist" who are decidedly partisan and who define "extremist" as "groups and people we disagree with".
  11. " Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of Jason Botterill" -P.T. Barnum, probably.
  12. If Lindros didn't essentially suffer brain trauma that effectively ended his career after 7 seasons nobody would be arguing that the Flyers lost that trade. People forget just how great he really was, if those injuries didn't happen I absolutely believe the Flyers end up eventually winning a cup.
  13. As the biggest Tage fan on this board I have to point out that the Blues called him up because injuries gave them no other choice and he was so clearly not an NHL player they had to eventually send him down anyways. And then when he came to Buffalo he was also dealing with the additional stress of having just lost his cushy gig as the Toys R Us mascot.

  16. Another rules thing: there was a situation in the OT where Stevens closed his hands on the puck in the crease and it was just a penalty. I have always thought doing that was a penalty shot, not a penalty (The most notable example being game 5 of Isles-Panthers in 2016 where in OT an Isles player got called for it and a penalty shot was awarded but Greiss (Who along with *Redacted* were the reason the Isles won the series) saved it). Was the rule changed since 1994?
  17. Any list of the greatest goalies ever that doesn't have Hasek right at the top isn't worth paying attention to.
