  1. This should put into perspective just how awful and incompetent Botts has been:

The Islanders will have announced plans for a new arena, had the plan approved after having to go through red tape mandated by a disgusting and corrupt system, started construction and will open it (Fall 2021) before Botts can put together a team who can even compete for a playoff spot (much less earn one).

If anything, the article is second rate.

Allow me to illustrate what is contributing to the agony. The team’s play, to initiate, has been lackluster. The already-condensed front office and hockey operations departments have lacked continuity. The team’s arena is outdated, and the game-day atmosphere is a yawn. Fan giveaways seem cheap and thoughtless and, in the latest edition of anguish, the team’s 50th year seems to have become more of a folly than a celebration.

We already know the teams‘ play has been poor for a unusually long time

Condensed front office and hockey operations departments have lacked continuity?  Really what is he talking about exactly.   Try simply that they lack talent on top.  The front office should be easy to fix , the hockey operations not so much.  This part of the organization has been poor for a long time - since Golisano cut the budgets.  It is the root cause of the poor overall hockey talent levels we have experienced.  Why great hockey people don’t want to be in Buffalo is a mystery that must be solved.  We attracted Imlach and Bowman.   Have people changed that much?    Buffalo the city is on the rise, there is no excuse that we cannot get top talent in the hockey operations.   We need better than Boterill and we need a great scouting department   Come on Terry, drill another well.  Spare no expense.

The arena.  I never liked the new place but to be honest it is not outdated in the way some of the greatest hockey venues were.  The Aud was outdated to start with and yet we loved it’s charm.  Boston Garden, Maple Leaf Gardens, Montreal Forum, Chicago Stadium, they all lasted forever and were revered by hockey fans.    You should have seen the dump the Blues played in and fans look back on it with great fondness.   The game day atmosphere is bad because we have had very few superstar players for the past 2 decades.  No one likes a team that doesn't or won’t compete.

Giveaways are bad - Really?   Is this reaching a bit?  I saw the 50 year coverage that the Blues did just a few years back.  The Sabres are making theirs a much bigger deal.

I’m tired of these kinds of articles.

Are you seriously comparing KBA to any of those places? They were historic sites and shrines to the sport, this place was literally falling apart before it even opened (there are cracks in the building from the rush job/shoddy work to get it done in time). The only arena left in the entire sport that doesn't make the place look like a toilet is the Nassau Coliseum, and watching a game in that place is a billion times better. And you are missing the bigger picture: you can't control the results on the ice, but you can control what's off it. Whether it's promotions, pre game videos, not keeping that idiot DJ Milk around, having concession items more appealing than MRE's, having displays of historic moments in the arena (Thanks for removing the Buffalo Sports HOF display to expand the team store that ran out of the 50th anniversary jerseys!) or fixing up the arena so it isn't a complete dump our ownership has done none of this. Whether it's because they are completely incompetent or because they simply don't care is the only question.

    Just for comparison.

This is from Wiki about the Winter Classic entertainment -

The country music group Midland performed before the teams took the ice.[10] Jake Hoot, the winner of season 17 of the talent competition The Voice, sang the national anthem.[11] The pop music duo Dan + Shay performed during the first intermission.[12] The second intermission entertainment was a tribute to the State Fair of Texas, featuring the SMU Mustangs and Texas A&M Aggies dance teams and a rodeo show.[11]

    I'll take Green Day.

They are in St Louis, should've had Story of the Year perform instead!!!

I'm not sure how I feel about Green Day at this point in my life, but I know I didn't need to see them live ever again.

I plan on going to the HellaMega Tour, watching Weezer, staying to see if Fall Out Boy play stuff from when they were actually good and then walking out before Green Day hit the stage.

An article mixed with bloviating, and dramatic conclusions and assumptions. But also has some cold hard truth in there as well. Kind of hit piece meets somewhere in the middle with somber facts.

Please point out what you object to in this article because I read it and can't find a single thing any reasonable person would argue isn't 100% spot on.

I don't really pay close enough attention to those things but I guess I was going off some bad old info that isn't true. I thought it went back through Walt. I guess somebody once told me (or I read somewhere) that Keith was Walt's grandson or son and thus I thought Matt and Brady had dual citizenship. Oops. My bad.

If their mom is from Winnipeg as someone else previously stated there's a pretty decent chance they are dual citizens.

To what end. The owners are measured on success.  Which includes sales.  To date, those haven't suffered. Until they do, the trial will be postponed.

Unless we are playing a marquee team there are thousands of empty seats at every game. When Pegula took over there was literally a waiting list for season tickets and through sheer stupidity and incompetence those days are long gone.

This is kind of a fun statistic.

Since January 1, 2019, up to and including the Vancouver game, the Sabres are 4th worst in the league.

    73 points.

    31-45-11 in that time period.

Keep Dahlin and Jack and move the rest please.

Oh, and fire Botterill before we start doing the moves.

I am absolutely stunned that we are that "good" over that period. Would've thought we'd easily be dead last.

  9. Example # 1,245,975 showing Sportsnet pundits are idiots: Guy just suggested players use playing in the ASG as a bargaining chip to make the league commit to playing in the Olympics. Unless I am mistaken isn't the entire point of the ASG to help fund the player's pension plan?

  10. If you wanted to know what complete and utter scum the Barclays Center people (Ratner and Yormark) are: Had this story confirmed for me by someone who would absolutely know: when there was talk the Isles wanted to play games at the Coliseum (Which the Barclays people operate) for the 3 years before Belmont opened Ratner ordered the pouring of concrete down the toilets in all the suites as an act of sabotage to make going back impossible. They also secretly funded the ridiculous lawsuit against the Belmont Arena.

Cleveland apparently cancelled Daboll’s Interview today, no word if it will be rescheduled.

I would look at moving on from him anyways and look at Pat Shurmur. He is horrible as a HC, but seems good as OC particularly working with younger QBs.

I would draft a WR high, even trade up for one, and sign either AJ Green or Amari Cooper in UFA.

I'd be shocked if the Bengals don't use a franchise tag on him. Also AJ saw our QB for next year throw 7 TD's in the first half of a national championship semifinal so he might want to stick around.

I think what they are trying to stop is the "call up the tough guy to get even" stuff.  Yesterday was right there with when we obtained Scott and the league made it known that they weren't going to tolerate Kaleta and Scott antics to make up for Miller-Lucic.  And they threw the book at those two (rather unfairly IMO) with great frequency.  The reaction to McCabe seemed eerily similar.  That response was very manufactured.

It appears to me that the league is OK with organic toughness in play but is going to take a firm stance against manufactured, staged toughness.  And last night was the former.

And the fact that if the league and officials did their job and handed out severe punishment to players who injured guys on filthy plays there would be no need for frontier justice shows that they all have IQ's identical to their shoe sizes.

  13. Botts was actively shopping ROR well before the 2018 trade deadline. He clearly wanted to get rid of him. Botts is far and away the absolute worst GM in the entire league, a complete and total failure. Our roster is terrible, our prospect pool is mediocre at best (and at forward it's actually really bad), the drafting has been poor (passing on the leading goal scorer in the OHL for a dime a dozen defensive prospect, packaging late round picks to move up in late rounds, the infamous 6th round trade with the Leafs that was among the stupidest things in sports history) and absolute stupidity in handling player development (Tage and Mitts). There is no excuse for him not being sacked the second yet another non playoff (and very possibly another bottom 5 season) ends.
