But @Wyldnwoody44 didn't say that.  He said this:

In other words:  the point of social distancing isn't to prevent people from getting the virus, it's to prevent too many people from getting it at once and thus overwhelming the HC system.

The HC system is far less taxed at present than was expected to be the case, even when social distancing is factored in.

If we are at the point where re-opening would not overtax the HC system -- and no one knows the answer on that, but we'll find out pretty soon as most states are re-opening -- then keeping social distancing in effect will not reduce the total number of deaths from the virus.

In the meantime, you've insulted someone who was working brutal hours on the front lines against this virus, was highly stressed out and was here looking for some friendship and support.

I'd also like to add this: many people seem to be ignoring the concept of the Seen and Unseen. We can see the actual number of people listed as dying from the virus. What is going unseen is that the ongoing lockdown is also killing and destroying people. People have lost their jobs and in the incompetent cesspool known as NYS if you file for unemployment your claim will be processed on the 10th of Never (and that's if you are somehow fortunate enough to get it successfully sent on the website that is designed as well as something you would see on Geocities) which I am all too familiar with. People are unable to get needed medical treatment because it has all been cancelled. People won't go to a hospital under any circumstance because they have been terrified into thinking that they are filled to the brim with people suffering with this (like a neighbor who has a torn/broken ankle that is purple but has decided to self medicate with a dozen tall boys instead). There is the long term damage of people gaining massive amounts of weight from being inside with nothing to do. I lost over 100 pounds over the last decade and it did wonders for my health, if I gain it back that has a far greater chance of doing me in than the virus. There is the mental health damage from being under de facto house arrest, having no job, nowhere to go and having no purpose in life. That last one is such an important thing that nobody seems to understand: My job at Kohl's gave me more than a paycheck, it gives me a feeling of accomplishing something and being productive (which is why while an Unemployment Check would certainly help it isn't a true substitute for what I have really lost). And obviously economic destruction and economic collapse cause poverty, which history has taught us brings death in multiple ways. In fact, the areas that were hardest hit were places that were poor and filled with people with underlying health conditions that made them far more susceptible to the virus. I guess my general point is that just viewing this as just a medical problem is just as big a mistake as viewing it solely as an economic problem. And furthermore people accusing anyone who doesn't agree with them of not caring about people dying is being absurd. Do you seriously think either Trump or Cuomo want people to die? No, they both want this thing to do as little damage as possible but disagree on how to accomplish that.

The first quote in the story sounds they’re saying “You can trust us. We wanted to keep you safe by using drones to observe you.”

I stayed out of the conversation for a while. I wonder if they would’ve still walked it back if people in other parts of the country weren’t protesting other COVID control measures while carrying guns.

The people who showed up carrying guns were so stupid that my first thought is that they were the group's political opponents posing as members to make them look bad, but they weren't.

What does any of this have to do with the Buffalo Bills?

I posted the tweet because I don't think there is an NFL thread and figured this was the best place to put it. Posted it because it was really funny to anyone who is a wrestling fan because the Steiner Math promo was probably the greatest moment in TNA history.

Are you a Demographer whalermike?  Buffalo has lost roughly 2% of its population since the last census of 2010.  Too many cities in the rust belt to name losing population.   The proximity to Southern Ontario guarantees the subsistence of the organization.

The proximity to Southern Ontario didn't prevent the team from nearly relocating two different times (early 90's if the new arena wasn't built, early 2000's if Gollisano didn't step in and save us). And according to Paul Weiland the % of ticket holders from Canada is roughly 13% so that isn't as big as you think. And as for demographics I have seen numerous articles on cities on the decline and they always mention Buffalo. But even if I were to concede the point it isn't dying rapidly it is still the second smallest market in the NHL, just ahead of Winnipeg. So yeah...

??? The team was putrid in the mid-80s.  Missed the playoffs twice, and that was when 16 of 21 teams made it.

Did not happen in the mid-80s.  The last playoff round the team won in the 80s was in 1983.  The 1982-83 season.

Jesus Christ. We beat Quebec 3-0 in the 1986 first round and lost in 7 to eventual champions Montreal in 7 on an OT goal by Claude Lemieux at The Forum. The next season we won the Adams Division but lost to Quebec in the first round. The team would have one more winning season in our history (think it was 89-90 where we took the rooinz to 7 games) before the worst GM in the history of pro sports Ed Johnston killed the team dead with his idiocy.

Hartford is a small city/large town of less than 125k.   It could garner no fan support outside its own county, with surrounding areas fans of either the Bruins or the Rangers.  Outside of recent losing our scenario is nothing like the one that sent the Whale packing.

In the all too brief period where the team was good in the mid 80's the team certainly had support: when we won a playoff round (not a cup, not the conference, A SINGLE PLAYOFF ROUND) there was a goddamned parade held in the city with tens of thousands of people. Nearly 20 years later when Carolina won a cup their celebration was a few thousand people in a ***** parking lot. The team was purchased by Rich Gordon who proceeded to completely destroy the team by by running it in the most incompetent manner possible and destroying all the hard work Howard Baldwin did in making them so successful. The team being a punching bag/laughingstock is what killed them, not the nonsense about market size. If the Whalers had ever won a cup the number of rags and rooinz fans in CT would've fallen off a cliff. And as for you saying it can't happen here: what's the second fastest dying major city in America (that also lacks the well off areas of the suburbs of the fastest dying city)?

The probability of two independent events is the PA * PB.  So while the Sabres chance of a playoff berth under JB might be the same as your Powerball win, the owners would hardly allow a team back to the city of Hartford.   (Hartford - The Matt Ellis of former NHL cities).  Thus the probability of both occurring is lower than a playoff bid next season.

YAY another person who buys the NHL's ***** propaganda about why they had to murder the Whalers  Don't think you'd like to know our fate if Botts traded Jack for whomever would be a modern day equivalent of John Cullen so yeah, you might want to slow your roll on that one.

If this team makes the playoffs next year Jbot isn't going anywhere.

And if I win Powerball I will buy the Coyotes and move them to Hartford as the new Whalers (which has just about the same chance of happening as this team ever making the playoffs under Botts much less next season).

A TV rating is not a measure of the raw volume of people watching.  It’s a measure of the percentage of people watching.  A Sabres game has higher ratings in Buffalo than a Rangers game in NYC, but there are still more people watching in NYC.

I am not so sure of that last bit: for the series in 2007 vs the rags the MSG WNY feed not only had a much higher rating than MSG  but more people watching as well.

do you see the irony as a Sabre fan?

If a laffs fan wanted to go there I remind them only one NHL team has ever been awarded a trophy on the Scotiabank Place and it was NOT the laffs. Also if the Sabres got to play 25 or so seasons in a 6 team league we would have won a couple of cups.

bizpacreview? Labeled as an extremist site... No thank you. Sources matter.

Not knowing anything about the site the very first question I have is who labeled them as an "extremist site"? There are numerous groups dedicated to labeling people and groups as "extremist" who are decidedly partisan and who define "extremist" as "groups and people we disagree with".

Even though I bash Jason as much as anyone, I don't think this is true. The ROR return was so bad because Jason's decision that he had to trade ROR, with Terry's deadline, painted us into a corner. He would never have so little leverage in a Dahlin trade

" Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of Jason Botterill" -P.T. Barnum, probably.

But that isn’t always how it works.  Take Thompson vs Jokiharju.  Both played 1/2 a season in the NHL before coming to us.  One jumped right in and was very good and the other failed. Prospects and their development isn’t linear.  VO was also 24.  There are no guarantees.

As the biggest Tage fan on this board I have to point out that the Blues called him up because injuries gave them no other choice and he was so clearly not an NHL player they had to eventually send him down anyways. And then when he came to Buffalo he was also dealing with the additional stress of having just lost his cushy gig as the Toys R Us mascot.
