We will win more games without him than we did with him and more importantly perhaps, the hockey will be more fun to watch and there will be optimism. That is what I believe.

Have you looked at that roster minus Jack and Sam? In all seriousness what other center in our own division do you NOT see our new #1 center Mitts getting completely and totally abused by? Name another NHL team with a worse #1 center.

Sure. Maybe. Why not. I don't care. His words and attitude in that "disconnect" press conference told me he doesn't want to be here and also he shouldn't be here.

I'm going to tell you flat out, disagree if you want to, but if Eichel is NOT traded, this team is doomed.

If they trade him you know it's going to be for a completely underwhelming futures package (IE: Guys who at best won't be meaningful NHL players for at least a few years (if ever)) and that there is an excellent chance this team wins fewer than 20 games right?

  3. For the 8 billionth time: Skinner got that contract with the idea him and Jack had incredible chemistry and that this gave us a superline for the next 8 seasons. The first thing they did after he signed was take him off that line and pair him with a collection of dreadfully awful players and to the surprise of no one smarter than a cucumber it ended up being a disaster.

My fiancé had to go to NYC for about 20 hours recently and almost got killed and/or robbed like 3 separate times, and wasn't even in that bad of an area. F*ck that hellscape

Every single word you just said is true. A month or so bàck I was at a Red Bulls game and decided to go down to Red Bank with a friend for an FC Monmouth match. If I didn't I would've taken NJT right back to the city and went into Times Square to get something to eat on the train home. Why that's important: I would've been there at the exact moment when a maniac shot up the place.

@sabremike how about this, why is Don Granato not qualified to be an NHL head coach? Why would he potentially fail at that job?

    OK here goes:

I called him an entry level NHL coaching hire. I pointed out that there are other teams and situations where hiring Granato would be reasonable. In my opinion the Sabres are NOT that team or situation. This organization is the biggest failure in modern hockey history and need someone with a track record that says "I can get the job done".

Here's the problem. You are taking a chance regardless of who you hire. We hired cup winner Dan Bylsma with his 6 years of NHL head coaching experience and he sucked. You don't want Granato, just say it. No one will be upset but stop this fake argument stuff. Granato is just as capable as Beaudreau and the org's credibility has nothing to do with any of it other than maybe a high end vet coach like Gallant would prefer other places.

ALSO LOLLLLOOLOLOLOLLOOLOL at the Flyers having credibility. What a dumpster fire their team is turning into.

I must've missed the Flyers missing the playoffs for a decade straight. They are having a rough patch but they have credibility built up from decades of almost never being uncompetitive.

And Bylsma won a cup with one of the 5 greatest players ever, a guy in Malkin who is probably one of the 10 or so greatest players of his era and a goalie in MAF who has a good shot at the HOF (And lots of other good players). Conehead the beer vendor probably could've won a cup coaching that Pens team.

I did and the interesting thing is that Bruce became an NHL head coach at 52. Granato is 53.

Just say you want Boudreau because he's previously been an NHL head coach. But stop acting like Granato isn't qualified.

If we were talking about an organization that had any shred of credibility like say the Flyers or Bruins that's in a position where they can afford to take a chance on a guy? Yeah. An organization that has zero credibility of any kind dying a horrible that cannot afford to get another hire wrong? Nope.

Drives me nuts that a guy like forslund can bounce around while we stick with dunleavy

The amazing thing is that Duff was far better than Dan ever was when he had to step in after RJ had to be rushed to the hospital (and imagine how difficult that situation was).

I wish they'd give Chuck Kaiton a call.

The reason Eichel comes off like a jackass is because he is a jackass… Prima donna with great skills… and a self-absorbed personality… Not a team player, how he got and kept the “C” is a joke… If he can’t be traded, cut him… Eichel is a cancer… Give Granato and his young team who play to win, play for each other, and play for the fans a chance to grow together… and restore the hockey legacy in Buffalo…

Michael Russo, who has the inside pulse of the Wild had these thoughts on Eichel as a Minnesota Trade Target

    Jack Eichel

The Wild have had initial trade talks with the Sabres regarding Eichel, the 2015 second pick.

Buffalo’s captain holds a $10 million cap hit for the next five years and could need offseason neck surgery. The longer he goes before having it, the likelier it will be that he won’t be ready for the start of training camp.

But if you trade for Eichel, that’s a long-term decision, so a delay to start next season wouldn’t be the end-all. The Wild would need a real good grasp on Eichel’s health and so far teams have reportedly not been given permission to talk to Eichel, his agent or doctors.

Right now, unless Buffalo’s price changes, this trade won’t happen regardless.

It’s believed Buffalo is looking for all futures right now.

If that’s the case, a trade would have to start with Rossi and Boldy, and probably include other prospects or multiple first-round picks. Besides the fact that it’s hard to believe that Guerin would mortgage the future and blow a hole through the Wild’s prospect pool, the Wild literally can’t afford to pull off an all-futures trade for Eichel. They’d need significant money going back like Dumba and/or the rights to Fiala in order to execute an Eichel deal.

It makes sense that Sabres GM Kevyn Adams would shoot for the moon this early in the offseason. But it’s hard to buy that any team – Minnesota, Anaheim, Columbus, L.A., Philly – would give up the significant pieces Adams is seeking for a player who’s future could truly be significantly impacted by his injury. Adams’ asking price will likely have to come down as we get closer to the meat of the offseason. If it does and he’s willing to take money back in a trade, the Wild may be a fit. Until then, it’s hard to see how.

    Sam Reinhart

If there’s sticker shock as to what Eichel costs, Guerin could turn his attention to Reinhart, the consistent 20-goal scorer who turns 26 in November and tied for 11th in the NHL with 25 goals in 54 games last season. On an aside, he was also minus-28.

But he’s a smart, hard-working, skilled forward who’d help the power play. He’s not the greatest skater and has mostly played wing in his career, which could explain his sub-par faceoff numbers (38.8 percent in his career). The Wild ranked 28th in the faceoff circle last season, so it’d be nice to find somebody who could win a big draw.

Would a Fiala for Reinhart – pending restricted free agent for pending restricted free agent – deal make sense?

Hard to say because Fiala, despite being snakebitten for much of the 2021 playoff round vs. Vegas, has shown he can be a difference-maker.

Can the same be said about Reinhart?

But we also know the Wild’s biggest need is at center, and right-shot centers, especially, are coveted.

Reinhart’s going to be expensive to sign, though.

Getting Boldy and Rossi, Dumba as cap dump ( but a experienced RHD) plus a First, I’m not hanging up if I’m Adams

1- Why would we trade a guy who is specifically being traded because he headed out of contract for a guy who is headed out of contract?

2- Does this guy seriously question if Sam could be a difference maker?

3- Did he also seriously cite +/- like it means anything?

It was weird when Botterill traded a 6th in one draft for the 6th in the next - it's generally accepted that earlier the ETA of a pick is, the more value it has. A 5th overall in 2025 is more valuable in a trade than a 5th overall in 2027.

Even if Zegras and Beniers are equal talent tiers, I see separation in value

If you were doing a list of the dumbest trades in NHL history that one has to make the list. It's the type of trade that sounds like a sketch comedy routine except it actually happened.
