It was pretty obvious to me it was going to be Petraeus who would go. This keeps the Sec of State in the running for 2016. Didn't expectv it this week though.

Don't let the facts get in the way of the Obama recovery.

There was no doubt in my mind that this was not an election day mural...

Having been through this three times now, I can tell you taking away the driving priviledge is one of the hardest things to do and the hardest things to live with. Your world shrinks dramatically.

Again I say, you are playing the 2008 playbook and I'm saying if you want to win, you are going to have to deal with some of these issues you so easily hand wave off. I'm not saying the choices are easy, I'm saying they are medically necessary. There is no such thing as a nice try in Presidental politics. Change or resign yourself to losing OH, FL, PA, MI, IA and MI next time too...

I had a lady waiting in line to vote for Obama in MD. She was sneezing and sneezing and sneezing. It's not like one more Barack vote in MD mattered.

yep and they lost.. Time for some new thinking.. If you don't like FL, pick PA or OH or WI

If the GOP is interested in taking back the White House, I would seriously consider removing South Carolina from the early primaries and switch it with Florida. Here is my line of thinking: First comes the retail politics of Iowa. Small state, get to know you. Stake out your positions. Then come NH which is really MA in sheeps clothing. Small state, lots of retail politics. Then comes a dramatic pivot to SC and all the deep red conservatism. Candidates can't lose three in a row and be relevant so they go deep conservative to win this state. And that is where the damage is being done. Romney, a MA centrist was forced to go deep red or go home. What if the Republicans elevated FL or PA to the number 3 spot? There they could work a more centrist plank and set of positions built out of the momentum of IA and NH. They could also develop a better ground game in FL's SE counties where they are getting killed. My recommendation is to bury SC in Super Tuesday and never utter that state's name again. I would also really shake up the order of states and put a lot more emphasis on winning CA. Make the CA primary vote relevant. There are too many voters out there to ignore.. Leaving CA to the Dems is a disastrous plan.

Yeah, as the holidays approach we are in end of the year layoff season too.... I see the stock market was thrilled with the uber election results yesterday. Just looked at the damage... Ouch...

So first an explanation. I closed this because at the end of the day this is a hockey board and this thread has dominated like nothing else for months. The lack of substantive hockey clearly played a role. I never envisioned it to be an endless diatribe on politics, just a focused sprint to election day. Now having said that, I found myself second guessing the decision all day and like PA said, it was like finding forbidden material after you swore it off. The commmentary on here over the last few months has been insanely good. There are very thoughtful positions staked out by many. The flare ups were really minor and seemed to flame out naturally after they started. Now my commentary on last night: The Republican Party has to be really kicking themselves this morning. Unless they get serious about running a centrist campaign with centrist candidates, they are going to be on the losing side of things. How could you allow the likes of Perry, Gingrinch, Romney and Bachman to represent your party? Seriously, how do you let that whack-a-doodle Bachman on any stage? I would also hope they would recognize that the more you say early, the more ammunition there is for the late stage campaign. All those debates were disastrous for the Republicans. In a game of survivor, they had way, way too many people on the stage. Mid term elections are usually unkind to incumbents and I'm quite certain Obama-fatigue will be setting in. For half the country, Obama-fatigue is already there. The GOP have a golden opportunity to win in 2016 as Joe Biden will believe he is the party standard bearer starting in 2016. As for the Democrats, the coalition they built is progressive and will only get stronger (if they run the right candidate) in 2016. I do not expect the Republicans to change and thus I don't expect much to happen during this Obama term. Procedurally they will block his initiatives and seek to blame him at every turn. Whatever Obama accomplishes will be done by circumventing Congress, not working with it.

Dade is only 26% in and Broward is only half in. It's over... They're to chicken to call it because of Dan Rather.

Romney pulls even in FL

Romney 152 Obama 123

They haven't called it, but it's all over in FL.

Romney lost the bellwether IN county of Vigo. He lost by 162 out of 36K cast. Vigo has been wrong only twice since 1888... Romney gets TN and AR
-
The 8p hour is when the Obama tidal wave begins... Romney must be getting nervous with the VA, NC and FL results so far. He's behind in FL and the big counties in the south are not in yet.

Romney IN. Flip from 2008 Romney WV. No surprise.. WV hates Obama and his coal policies...
