I love stories like this. Some good parenting had to be part of it!

Agree for the most part. I have some trouble ranking Helenius over Östlund but he could be. I also have trouble tiering Helenius with Kulich and Benson since he has never played a game on the NHL and they look like NHL players in the making. Quinn and Peterka are from the same draft class, each spent one season in the AHL, and they came up together. Peterka is trending up, Quinn is trending down. Was it the injuries that derailed Quinn or is it his game? I would have to believe that injuries had something to do with it but that is no reason for his current level of play which completely lacks a physical component. Just looking at the two play I like Peterka's build and body type much better. His frame is much sturdier and his lower body is stronger. Peterka plays faster, while Quinn seems to be thinking (and watching) out there. Someone please help Peterka with his two way game and he is a top 6 on many teams. Quinn seems frail to me. He has some nice hands and skills but really needs to get stronger and play with more resolve and some aggression. Rosen has just turned 22. He has 15 NHL games and has not distinguished himself yet. Certainly can be a trade piece sweetener. He still could bloom but we have others in the pipeline too.

Byram is RAM tough! Oops, I just plagiarized that from Dodge pickup trucks.

You are not changing your opinion, that's fine. But the priorities argument is not a good one. You can package Quinn in a trade to get a goalie or a defenseman. You bring up team priorities as if you have to trade a winger for a winger, you know better than that. This teams priorities and needs are the reason Quinn is even in the discussion, he still has some value in the trade market, you typically have to give something to get something. On this team Quinn is the a lowest ranked forward held over for last seasons top 9, he cannot play center and his game is not at all suited for the fourth line. His skill set is redundant with several other wingers, including prospects in Rochester. I would much rather keep Peterka and move Quinn. What will likely keep Quinn on the Sabres roster is the fact that Peterka allegedly wants out. If Quinn has another lackluster season like the past one his trade value becomes very close to zero.

Yes, they review goals. I would be all for reviewing over the glass penalties.

Puck over glass is a delay of game penalty - intentional or not it cannot be accurately determined by refs in real time, so you either call it every time or not at all. You should have seen the crap the Flyers got away with in 1975. The refs put away the whistles and gave a distinct advantage to one team. There were no instigator penalties or 3rd man in calls back then. Every fight typically led to 2 or more simultaneous fights which put our best players in the box while Philly trotted out their best players after the fact. That was far more egregious than yesterday. Yesterday was nothing, the call was correct, the debate is the rest of the way the game was called.

Ok. I just acquired Zucker#2 and McLeod #2 at your request - both players are middle 6. Which forwards do you move? Not including the 4th line we have Thompson, Norris, Peterka, Benson, Kulich, Tuch, McLeod, Zucker, Greenway, and Quinn. That is 10 forwards plus your 2 new vets, 12 players for 9 slots. You could move Greenway to the 4th line plus PK duty and that could work. You still have two more players in excess. Quinn jumps out before any of the others.

In a better scenario you trade for Quinn for Marchment assuming you can work out an extension for him. Marchment is bigger and stronger and much grittier. He also has a higher PPG and GPG than Quinn. Sure, Quinn has a higher scoring ceiling but injuries and lackluster play are preventing him from getting there. Quinn's two-way game was not there under Lindy, maybe he gets it in another year? You are tired of seeing our young players traded away and then play well for other teams, and I can understand that since we have a recent history of trading the wrong players for the wrong reasons. You prefer to trade Byram over Quinn. Keep in mind that Byram is only 8 months older than Quinn, both are 23. Byram was far better than Quinn last season, and in the seasons prior. To say that Quinn should be kept over Byram is your opinion but Byram is just as young, has won a cup, and is the better player of the two. Sounds like Quinn is getting preferred status from you because he was a Buffalo first rounder but I think Byram is the better player. They only reason I would trade Byram is that we have a surplus of defenseman with his same skill set and he can actually bring more back in trade than a guy like Quinn.

The Oil take game 1. They have a 70% chance of winning it all now. McDavid to Draisaitl

Sabres announce Jarmo Kekalainen Hired as Senior Advisor
Pimlach replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
The source of his departure was the trade of Ryan Miller. LaFontaine wanted to keep Miller to help them through the tank/rebuild. Which would have been smart to keep a few guys that cared on the team. -

They owe it all to advertising.

I guess I am expecting more from voters/hockey writers. I would have thought the season that Tuch had would get him top 5 in votes.
-
I am surprised at some of the names getting votes. How does Mathews get more Selke votes than Tuch?

Didn’t Neces already say no to a Buffalo trade? Why would Utah trade 4OA for Norris?

Like what Murray and Terry Pegula did to Pat LaFontaine? That worked out well ... -
Too many games, too many teams, not enough true star players to go around, and the season is way too long.
-
What is truly sad is reading the Fairburn article and finding out that Terry Pegula thought that the signing of the lazy and overrated Taylor Hall would make the Sabres Cup contenders. And Adams agreed. Two completely incompetent people are at the helm.

Matthew Fairburn Latest Article regarding Terry Pegula and Adams
Pimlach replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
I was shown how to get access to the article. Adams is defensive on his qualifications for the job but there is no doubt he has been way over his head and that Terry hired him to control everything. From the Fairburn article: On Oct. 11, 2020, five months after hiring Adams, Pegula stood inside his new general manager’s office. At that point, Adams had no assistant GMs. His director of scouting was Jeremiah Crowe, who had three years of pro scouting experience before getting elevated to that role. The analytics department was Jason Nightengale. This was the first day of NHL free agency. Pegula and Adams discussed the possibility of signing Taylor Hall to a one-year, $8 million contract. Hall had won the Hart Trophy two years earlier with a 39-goal, 54-assist season for the New Jersey Devils. The Sabres had failed to qualify for the expanded 24-team playoff during the pandemic, extending their playoff drought to nine seasons. "We sign this guy,” Pegula said to Adams in a behind-the-scenes video released by the Sabres, “we’re not only trying to make the playoffs. We’re trying to win the Cup.” “Yeah,” Adams said. “I mean this is … yeah.” This is dysfunction at the highest levels. Terry was clueless to think that signing Taylor Hall, and underachiever for most of his career, made his Oct 2020 roster a playoff roster, yet he thinks it made them a cup contender. This would be laughable if it wasn't so sad. -

Danny got there early to check out Canalside. -
Initially I did not like the idea of trading Peterka but if we can package him for Robertson I am definitely interested. Dallas would like a young top 6 guy like Peterka and he would like the glamour and glitz of Dallas. (They gotta lotta' nice girls, yeah.) Robertson improves our top 6 and gives us options. Send in Jarmo!
