Stillman looking like the 7. The battle for 8 is Bryson and Clague. One of them will get exposed to waivers. The good news is we will have Johnson and Novikov in the AHLand both look promising enough to make the top 6 someday.

We can cut either Comrie or UPL. If we lose either of them we have Toker for emergency 3. Not great but it buys us time.

28 shots, 25 saves, 3 goals allowed, 0.893 pct. Sounds like UPL. He let in a weak long shot and 2 breakaways. Sure, he played behind a poorer Sabres roster that had nothing in sync. Maybe they wanted him to carry that group? Just saving one breakaway and not letting in a long cheap goal and then we are singing another tune. I saw nothing to get excited about from him.

Johnson is a really good skater. He throws the puck around a bit too much for my likening, the games needs to slow down for him and then he will make better decisions. Overall he is impressive at times. Definitely needs year of AHL play and he could be called up if we get thin on defense.

If Comrie plays a good game tonight then UPL will need to play next and show more than he did last night.

UPL is in a competition with Comrie and I would say that based on what we saw from each of them so far that Comrie did better, but no conclusion can be made yet. UPL is probably they guy they want to see emerge, and he may have started higher on the depth chart which is why he played last and with the weaker roster. He did nothing to help carry the squad IMO.

Power blew it on the 2nd, Johnson had a bad clear prior to a goal but then Bryson had the breakdown when we needed him to recover that play. Johnson shows promise and should improve by playing a season in the AHL. Bryson does not.

That was the weakest group that we iced thus far, especially the goaltending. Ryan Johnson was good, one of the few that was tonight. None of the veteran AHL guys showed anything (such as Murray and Rousek) to make me think they can play in the NHL. VO was a snooze. Jost was too. Bryson has dropped below Stillman and Clague IMO. UPL was beat easily by several nobodies. Cozens, Krebs and Joker had to play alone tonight. Even Power appeared uninterested. So far Benson, Biro, Kulich and Rosen deserve a longer look. So does Ryan Johnson and Novikov. The rest will be heading home soon.

VO did not break the puck out when he had clear possession. He isn’t showing anything.

Krebs can pass but he doesn’t get to loose pucks quick enough. Glad Bryson was there to provide “a veteran play” on that last Leaf goal. He is too small, no reach, no length, no weight

Ok, so is he good enough to make the team better? That is still the debate. Lets see if VO can perform with Cozens tonight.

VO was hard to trade because of his contract and because he was a 28 goal scorer (21 at even strength) with a -23. Teams are going to low ball Adams because they know he has to make room for his stockpile of talent. With Quinn out, VO is more valuable than a D6/7 right now, especially with Ryan Johnson looking good and fitting in with the team. VO could be a trade deadline move when teams get desperate for a finisher and PP help. By then Quinn will be back and we know more about the readiness of guys like Rousek, Savoie, Biro, Benson, Rosen, etc... Adams is never in a hurry when it comes to player trades.

Not much firepower in the this lineup. Maybe the UPL and the defense will tighten up?
