So that's the plan? Just better marketing? Sometimes I think Pegula has already decided he will eventually sell the team and he's just extracting what value he can and waiting for that expansion money to roll in and when franchises hit the level he's decided it'll be gone. I mean is there another explanation for the lack of effort and direction that actually makes sense? He's not a dumb man I don't think.

Yup. That's how you build a hockey team, and that's how you can rebuild quickly on the fly. Lessons there. Consider all the trades and signings they have made and what type of players they have drafted. They do not sit and wait. Crazy ending to L.A. Edmonton. That loss should demoralize Oilers after the comeback.
-
How many picks do they want? I am not saying it's viable. I'm just saying Rutherford will try. I don't follow NJ so I have no idea how happy or unhappy they are with things or what their direction will be going forward. Maybe they have no interest at all. Maybe they make an offer for Quinn. Maybe Sabres should offer their whole roster both ways and bring the 3 Hughes boys here. lol, who the f knows.

I don't understand this sort of statement. Who is "throwing the baby out with the bathwater"? The AHL is supposed to function as a development league. It's not punitive. It's beneficial. Remember Thompson came back a much better player. Benson would benefit from it. I firmly believe that and he would be a better player sooner if he went down for the year. If Sabres were actually in the hunt he could come up end of the year if not sooner. If the timing was right. Sabres fans have come to accept a very unusual and skewed vision of how hockey players develop and mature. I guess it's the Sabres' way.

See, where we differ, is I'm tired of having players on the roster who need to learn. Using the NHL as a training ground. Losing games while we grow and learn. That stuff is for your AHL team. NHL team should be too busy competing to spend all their time teaching. Get me some veterans who already know how to play.
-
The injury is overplayed but Jack Hughes is also injured and some believe injury prone. All I'm saying is I think Rutherford will TRY to do this. NJ may prefer the reverse absolutely. But you never know. Some offers are hard to refuse.
-
Eichel was Tuch, a prospect (Krebs), a first and a second is that right? I think that was it. So if you start with Pettersson, 4 firsts, some other prospect(s) and some roster player? idk, anything's possible. As I said I think they TRY and if they can't they will go the other way and send Quinn to NJ, Pettersson somewhere else and tank for McKenna. I just think Rutherford swings for the fences. He isn't always right, but he goes big. Or at least tries to.
-
My take on the Canucks is this. They are going to try hard to trade for the Hughes brothers to join Quinn. If it fails they will deconstruct and tank for McKenna.

Bylsma Relieved of Coaching Duties by the Kraken
PerreaultForever replied to eman's topic in The Aud Club
So Francis gets to fail upward and JBot gets the job. I wonder if this might give Terry a new idea. Disco Dan? Not a shock. What are they going to do with the female assistant? That could get awkward. -
wtf are you talking about? If that sort of attitude is the Sabres attitude it's no wonder they never win and then never will. Proper player development is in stages and has many aspects to it. I think Benson's great, but he still has a LOT to learn. One year in the AHL as a team leader would do him wonders.

Now move onto Pettersen...
PerreaultForever replied to Standing Room Smoking Cigs's topic in The Aud Club
Obviously a bunch of first rounders, prospects, idk what they have in Vancouver. Pettersson's just the centerpiece. It would be a big hockey trade. Some team (I forget who) was dumb enough to trade a star like Jack Eichel for a bunch of picks and one roster player so these things do happen. -
If I was GM I wouldn't be doing it to "make the Sabres weaker" I would also be signing and/or trading for some veteran players to balance the roster and create a greater sense of internal competition. I'm filling that roster spot with a veteran. It's also not a "terrible message" to Benson. It's time to break with all this bs don't block them let the kids play crap. You tell Benson we have big plans for you kid. We see you as one of our top 6 long term. We want you to spend one year in the AHL to fill out your body and learn every nuance and aspect of the game. It's not a punishment. It shouldn't be viewed that way.

PerreaultForever replied to Standing Room Smoking Cigs's topic in The Aud Club
Oh I agree, it would take some major happening, but it depends on what NJ thinks too. Are they happy with what they have and where it's headed? They look like a team that'll be bounced quickly. If anyone can do this though it is Rutherford. -
I know I'm the only one who wants this, but I want him in Rochester next year. Yes, you can argue that he's already shown he's above that, but down there I'd have him as top guy in all the big situations and he would come back the next year stronger as a total top level team leader.

Don't underestimate Rutherford. I bet he will offer Pettersson plus to NJ for the Hughes brothers. -
That's fair but I wanted even more than Reimer. A lot of goalies have switched teams over Adams tenure. A lot. Some of them were given away for next to nothing. They might not all have worked out, but trying to get one that would is what you should have been doing. Look how Colorado makes moves even when they are already good. That's how a GM is supposed to work. Doing his job, constantly trying to be better rather than just "believing in this group".

2025 NHL Entry Draft Thread, Sabres Draft 9th
PerreaultForever replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
Desnoyers is going to Boston or Philly. No chance he drops to Buffalo. Martone will likely be gone as well as Misa and Schaefer. There's a small chance Hagens falls and that would be fitting in a way because it would be like every other year where the small guy falls. Hagens is better than Savoie though. I'd be happy with Bear for sure. -
I was bored today so I wasted time listening to the whole thing. They are definitely clueless and delusional. If these clowns don't get fired and get to come back and "be better" next year it's obvious they will fail. They both think the team is far closer than it is. They both seem to believe in what they have and it'll be the same guys with only minor roster changes, and it'll be UPL and Levi and good luck with all that. I mean really, how do you have the audacity to say "that's what happens with young goaltenders" and not stop to think if you knew that (which you should have) why the F did you not get a solid veteran to pair him with in a tandem? He says he's "honest" and then he feeds us crap like that. Talk about creating a self fulfilling prophecy. F'n idiots.
-
Ullmark showing what Bruins fans already knew. Not a money goalie. Cozens didn't elevate either. Ottawa looked like the glad to be here but we have no idea how to handle this team. As did New Jersey.

How would you retool this team this summer?
PerreaultForever replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
It was a dumb idea to run with all young talent and it's still a dumb idea. Kids are not forced to earn spots, they are just given spots. The leadership is supposed to come from guys who have never been around NHL winners. The system is ever changing and non functional. I have never understood what it is we are actually trying to do. The team has no identity other than being perceived as "soft". It's just stupid. -
4 Nations had ultimate intensity, especially Canada USA but otherwise yes, international rarely has the same physicality. I think the best you can hope for with the way this is being built is if by some chance they got in (a season where everything went right and they got lucky) you'd see a quick Leaf style exit and they'd have to try to fix the line up for the playoffs for years the way the Leafs have. The roster is just not being built for playoff hockey.
-
No I disagree. It's easy to tell. You see games during the year where they step up or get physical. There are moments and flashes. I honestly haven't see that from the Sabres at all in the last 14 years or more. Sure, there are a couple guys who might try but for most of them it's just not their DNA.
-
I stopped listening because it was all bs but to your point it just sounds like he's justifying his decisions (which is more than enough reason to why he should be fired). He paid Muel so if he admits Muel is no good he's saying he made a mistake and he isn't going to do that. He signed Bryson so he has to justify why. He traded for Byram so he talks about Power needing a puck carrier all star. It's all self justifying. All he says overall is "I have to be better" all has to be better well no s@@t Sherlock you are out of the playoffs again and picking top 10 so of course it's not good enough DUH. Stupid franchise. Just look at the playoff games and think what if this Sabres team had somehow gotten lucky and squeaked in. How would this roster fare to what you see out there? We are really really far from being a properly constructed roster and sticking with it and believing in this group is just plain STUPID.
-
Playoff hockey. So good. Watching this Blues Winnipeg game and thinking how both of these teams are constructed so much better than the Sabres and how this current Sabres roster would not survive this type of play. Anyone watching this should realize just how far away the Sabres really are.

2025 NHL Entry Draft Thread, Sabres Draft 9th
PerreaultForever replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
I don't remember who I wanted although prior to the draft I do remember saying I thought Sanderson would be a good D man and hoped he'd still be there (he wasn't). I remember liking Holloway but lower. Rossi over Quinn. I think I liked Perfetti too. We agreed earlier on Bear. 7 might be a little high but I would not be upset if they went that way.
