  1. Dahlin does need to be benched, BUT for who? Butcher? Problem is you're going to end up benching him for someone worse. Only other option is calling up Samuelsson but do we want to throw him to the wolves at this point or wait until next year? The interesting thing with these sort of discussions and others and the ones on Sabrespace is there are SO MANY things wrong with this team that in a way, all the dissenting opinions are partly right. When talking about goaltending they cut them some slack and they brought up Markstrom as a goalie just coming into his prime, but they don't mention that Markstrom is also now playing behind a team that plays good team defense. Sutter has a system of defensive responsibility that helps make goalies look better. So yes, he's playing well, but it's also the team in front of him. Point being we are not playing a system that has very good team D. We are attack oriented and now lose 7-4 instead of 2-1. Having said that, the goalies are bad and they are letting in easy goals at times. The defense is bad too no question. There is bad at all 3 levels of D, goalie, defensemen, and forwards playing D. There are so many things wrong with this team I could go on for pages and pages but what's the point? and for a tank year we are OCASSIONALLY entertaining and slightly better than expected so it might be a bad tank (picking 6, 7 or 8 ish not 1 or 2ish) and we can screw up the draft again, but we hired a bunch of draft people and maybe we get it right and we have prospects and picks and it SHOULD get better. once we get a goalie .
  2. mercifully (I guess) I lost the feed for the 3rd period but I'm gathering it wasn't any more fun than the rest. This keeps up my other off season fear will come true, and this "tank" will just teach the next group to be okay with losing like we did the last group. When you tear down you need to instill a sense that something better will be built up and nights like this make that belief hard.
  3. You can't use Vegas for any comparisons. They had a unique expansion draft where teams gave them way too many extras and picks and you know the story. Seattle didn't get that did they? You'd have a stronger argument imo if you wanted to use Detroit. Or Carolina for that matter. A few years back they looked about the same as us but we drafted poorly. We have a different GM and scouting departments now. No point in living in the past, you either follow through with the new GM or you give up and find another team. Personally, I was so close to out the door, but KA has initiated a plan that was what I would have done so I'm going to see how it plays out. If they ***** this one up too, probably the only thing that'd allow me to give them another shot AFTER this one would be an ownership change. Philly fans are starting to call for a rebuild I hear. You want some of them? Risto maybe? 🙂
  4. I think the Canes are what Adams wants the Sabres to become and maybe we will become that but we ain't that yet. Far from it. I don't think this will be close. I only ever remember seeing a couple Subban games and he wasn't good in them but haven't seen him play in ages. Can't imagine he suddenly gives us any more than we already had in goal but who knows, goalies are weird. Maybe this'll be his rebirth/coming into his own.
  5. There's definitely the potential for improvement and hence some optimism but a lot of things have to go right. Injuries can't be blamed, they always happen and we haven't been hit particularly hard. I certainly hope they don't plan to dump Power into a big role right away. We've ruined enough D men already. Hoping KA recognizes this and brings Power along slowly. Don't expect him to be a savior. In 3 years I think he will be dominant but only IF we take our time and bring him along properly. Tuch should impact right away, Samuelsson maybe. Maybe a rookie or two off and on. With some sort of goaltending we should be BETTER but "Scary good" is not going to happen for a long time, if ever.
  6. Not true unless you're referring to ownership. Rebuild is the word used by new GMs with the incompetence on the previous GMs. So fans look for commonalities and see continuity, but for the management, this is only the beginning.
  7. you mean 22/23 thread? Levi? Next year? Not a chance. At least you'd hope not. Scary good in one season because of 3 rookies? You are smoking some good stuff 🙂
  8. Anyone still think this is true? I don't. I was wrong. He is in fact slowly improving game in game out despite often having crap linemates. Kid is driven!
  9. What is it investors say about mutual funds? Future performance cannot be guaranteed based on past? Bruins are haunted by the 2015 draft. Senyshyn, DeBrusk, Zboril. Chara's gone, Krejci's gone, Rask will be soon if not already. Bergeron is old, Marchand is getting there. Show me their young talent that will fill that void? Ain't there. Same for Pitt and Washington. When Ovi goes Washington goes. Pitt struggled until Crosby returned and Jarry got hot. The run for all 3 is nearly over. So undo the whole rebuild plan and trade for old guys? Who are you Murray? I hear Evander Kane's available.
  10. Jeff Beukeboom I believe was the "future considerations" in the Mark Messier to the Rangers deal. I think there was a high draft pick labelled as "future considerations" in the Lindros deal but don't remember. I know those are a long time ago........ I'm pretty sure there's been draft picks (usually not high ones) added in to complete some of these deals but I don't remember and am far too lazy to spend hours googling it. It's rare that it means much. If we see some minor league shuffle with Chicago later or some other low end swap that'll probably be related, but it might never be explicit. It is probably just an "I owe you a favour" type thing.
  11. In 4 years, if they stick to the plan, draft well, and at least some of the current prospects emerge as solid players. A lot depends on at least 1 of the current goalie prospects becoming an NHL star, at least at a Carter Hart level or better. I think it'll be Levi. With a lot of luck and some of the current playoff teams dropping off (Pittsburgh, Washington, Boston come to mind as aging fast) maybe sooner but unlikely. I think however, we might see actual competitive hockey next year on an off and on basis and actual decent hockey on a regular basis the year after. I'm believing in this plan working, until I see them ***** it up or the prospects disappoint.
  12. cause he's a defenseman, not a forward. Don't think a single person questions his offensive skills. Wins matter, not points.
  13. Well I do think they were dumb enough to think their offer to Ullmark would be the best one he got by far and he would sign and thus hold the place for the future kids but maybe not. Maybe it was just a clever tank.
  14. Well I think that always was the plan. This was the deconstruction year and presumably that part ends with this season and you build and rise next year and it's just a question of how fast. I know this is crap right now, and a game like this is very annoying, but I see more things to be hopeful about right now than I did a few years back. This prospect cupboard seems substantially more promising than what we had and if we stick with it, in a few years we just might have a team that'd bury a bad goalie start like Bobrovski had tonight and then blow out that other team.
  15. one point of fairness for this game, Bobrovski was worse than Dell.
  16. Are you Derek Roy? 🙂
  17. Future Considerations is most likely nothing, but I don't think it's definitely nothing. Might mean it depends on how many games he plays or wins or his save percentage etc. That can be termed a conditional pick but it can also be future considerations.
  18. Sabres (sigh). Too many things to bitch about, all been said above but one thing really bothered me. For all his alleged genius, wtf is Granato thinking with that PP line up??? I mean I get wanting Mitts involved maybe, he's a playmaker, but not in that grouping. What on earth is the thinking for putting your big player wide on the wing and the little guy in front? Maybe Skinner scraps a little, but the goalie can see EVERYTHING and they just keep everything to the outside and 3 good PP chances and nothing. Not even any dangerous chances. And Granato sticks with it. WTF? That was just stupid.
  19. Watch them make this trade and then bring in PK as an FA next year to "teach" Dahlin lol.
  20. Or, traded Ullmark before the deadline realizing he wasn't going to sign here, then we could have protected JJ and Seattle wasn't going to take Toker and we'd have a mediocre goalie and some sort of extra pick/asset in the system. But we don't learn.
  21. I'm in the wait and see camp on Mitts. He's going to have to work hard and show desire to move back up the line up. Not sure he will thrive on a line with Girgs and Asplund. Just not sure what, if anything, that line is.
  22. DeBrusk has fallen out of favour because he isn't scoring, because of that his defensive lapses are under more scrutiny and thus he sat and thus he asked. His scoring has dropped every year since signing his contract. Stylistically he might fit better with us than them but he's really kind of a floaty streaky player and not all that. Another guy, like Hall, who Krecji carried. That's why Bruins can't score, they didn't replace Krecji, who was underrated his whole career. TSN said 12 teams talking to Boston about DeBrusk though. Bruins might be happy to ditch his salary so they can bring in Rask + but otherwise, I suspect the price is higher than I'd pay.
  23. Yes, definitely, but who??? Leddy? Manson? Perhaps Zadorov or McNabb? The FA D possibles are slim pickings imo even if all the ones currently there still will be, which is unlikely.
