  1. I found this an interesting read on analytics from Bruce Boudreau so I thought I'd share it. Pretty much agree with his view and the rather funny (and somewhat meaningless) summary statement: “Sometimes too much analytics is not good for you,” Boudreau said to close out his answer. “But the proper analytics are really good.” https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/canucks-coach-boudreau-analytics-thoughts
  2. So Vegas is apparently very interested. I would love to see that. Eichel and Trotz how would that unfold? Diva gonna hate that and he will either finally get it and be transformed into the great player he should be OR more likely he will be shipped out of town. Makes for an interesting scenario either way.
  3. Would it be fair to say that he COULD be a Tanner Jeannot (or similar) for us in a few years?
  4. hey, what's the story on this Rousek guy? I'm hearing he's been a big surprise performer. Does he have future NHL potential?
  5. They kept sending pairs of guys off every time it was getting a little heated. I enjoy a little mayhem in the playoffs. Let them play. Its not a 1980s thing, not talking about fighting, but I prefer a game with bodies flying and players hitting each other and a little chaos instead of whistles and power plays. It's just more fun to me.
  6. I totally agree, and I've said that before. We SHOULD be. We used to be. Used to be a ton of Sabres living in and around St. Catherines so they could stay in southern Ontario, be close to the rink but still be in Canada. Hopefully Owen Power will love the proximity to Mississauga and it'll grow again. It should. We just have to start winning.
  7. The record looks fine. Can't see a scratch on it. So it's the player that's broken. Do I focus on the same things frequently? Probably. I enjoy the physicality in hockey. But I am no more repetitive than those wetting themselves over Connor McDavid goals. Saying how good he is is pretty repetitive too. We all like what we like. Now what happened in 1988? Didn't get that reference at all. It was. You go for the hit and make it, it's a great play. You miss the hit and you look like a fool. He missed it.
  8. It's not the GMs, those examples are/were all good teams that players wanted to be part of. That's easy for a GM to work with. Tampa has the bonus advantage of the tax laws too. We aren't a desirable spot yet. Maybe one day soon we will be again.
  9. All I will say about that Calgary Edmonton game is it looked like it was going to be a good heated affair and then the refs decided to be the main story. Every year there's a few like that where the refs just ruin it. Hope it was just a one off.
  10. You need it to throw Tampa off their game (or at least make it harder for them). Tampa is playing experienced playoff style hockey and Florida is like "hey, that's mean, you're supposed to let me skate right through there." I'm being silly, but I think it makes the point. One team is playing playoff hockey, the other one is just being the same as they were in the regular season, and that doesn't work. See my comment above on Florida. Basically same scenario.
  11. I thought the Florida series was going to be a war. they've had some serious dust ups in the past but Florida not playing physical at all. Afraid of taking penalties or just uninspired idk. Their PP has gone limp too. Samson not rising to the occasion.
  12. or St Louis? 🙂
  13. "traditionalist" is an interesting word. I'm taking it as a compliment because the game was good when I started watching it, that's why I started watching it. Changing from good isn't always a good thing. Otherwise, I'm not really that. The word I will repeat is "intensity". That's the key to a good game. Just that. The rest follows with that.
  14. He is, but there are a lot of guys on Calgary who can handle themselves so anything can break out. and probably will.
  15. yes definitely. I'd say the Eichel trade is a bit different but was a smart one to make. A guy like Tuch, already proven and a childhood fan won't come to them every day, and Krebs isn't all that proven yet, I'd call him a probable, but not sure on his ceiling yet. But otherwise yes. To you latter point that's definitely Toronto's problem. Vegas is a little different. They had a good thing going and could have built off that step by step but they got so close so fast they got greedy and that has flipped it upside down so it'll collapse soon enough if not already. This is why in free agency I usually advocate going after specific weaknesses, role players and stop gap people rather than over priced stars. Better value can be found in slightly over paying (if necessary) 3rd and 4th liners and depth players who compliment and enhance your home grown talent. Just have to steer clear of those long term no move clauses.
  16. Definitely, and that was part of the Skinner scenario. Also why JBot should have stuck to a line in the sand with a more reasonable number. Skinner wanted to play near southern Ontario. JBot held almost as much leverage as Skinner's agent had, but he was worried for his job I guess and I suppose hadn't worked out a line with the owner. It was a failed negotiation regardless but that's yesterday's news. Point is you're right, it used to be a desirable place to play and could be again. Should be. Word will travel from players like Power and Tuch. Assuming we start winning of course.
  17. Disagree entirely. Big saves, blocked shots, heavy hits, lots of things besides goals make for good games. Intensity is what matters, not how many go in the net.
  18. Some Aaron Dell level goaltending in that Calgary Edmonton game on both sides but that was just the warm up. This is going to get heated and combust at some point. Love it.
  19. Think you'd need to expand your idea into southern Ontario for a decent pool of players who might want to be closer to "home" even if maybe Buffalo is second choice to the Laughs. Like that.
  20. I think that was the one St. Louis had a shot to steal and maybe had to steal it to have a chance.
  21. I wonder if Hamilton will tweet about Reinhart's stats from game 1? 🙂
  22. Doesn't Scheifele want out anyway? That was a rumor a while back. idk, I think Winnipeg won more games when they grinded it out. They don't have the talent to play wide open. So he fits unless they want to tear down and redo.
  23. Yes they're flying, and they are also letting a lot of goals in. I don't think Trotz advocates slow, he just has tight structure and they don't let the other team do what they want. We struggled mightily against those sort of teams (eg. Boston) and those 2-1 playoff games are Trotz type hockey. let's revisit this after Calgary -Edmonton because that is a perfect clash of what you see as old and new. If Edmonton wins you're right, but if Calgary wins, and I think they will, then maybe it's not completely outdated just yet. Ya, don't see Lambert changing them too much, the rumor going around is that Trotz and Barzal had beef and Barzal I guess won.
  24. So I'm watching the LetterKenny hockey spin off Shorsey (it's dumb but also what you expect) and there was one line that got me thinking Sabres, especially Sabre led by Eichel Reinhart Risto. The sentence went something like "it's not that they don't want to win, but the kids today don't hate to lose" and I thought ya, that sums up the era. For all the stick smashing and so forth there was also a lot of acceptance and whatever. So my point is, whoever is in the line up next year, I want a line up where everyone hates to lose. So even if that's a less talented guy over a more talented guy give me that team. Give me a team where every single one of them HATES TO LOSE.
  25. Winnipeg interviewing Trotz. That would be a good fit imo. They were close to playing Trotz style hockey in the bubble season. Won't take a lot to get them to play his way and be a tough team to play against.
