  1. Not even close to the same argument. The need didn't develop in the Calgary game, it's been there all season. There's a big difference between trading away all your picks and prospects and balancing your roster with a few strategic moves that fill needs now.
  2. So Schenn would prevent today from happening but not Chychrun? I really don't get all the Schenn love on this board. The Bruins, with all the D they have, are in on Chychrun but apparently he is too expensive for the Sabres. We prefer more picks and 3 or 4 year maybes down the line than a guy just coming into his prime and clearly, by all accounts, becoming really good RIGHT NOW. Well, I guess some teams want to win now, and others prefer to (maybe) win later.
  3. Well we skate around a lot and are pretty fast doing it so that can be fun to watch. All we need to do now is learn how to play hockey and we're all set!!!! Rough day for Power. Rough day for all of the D really but I do wonder if Power's hitting that first season rookie wall that lots of them hit. Could be a rough end of the season. UPL brilliant one moment garbage the next as usual for a rookie goalie we are pushing with too much too soon. The only good thing is although we all hated the break, it seems to have given Tage the time he needed to heal whatever bruises or pulls he was dealing with. Top form today, but with the usual flaws to go with his strengths. Kiss the playoff dream goodbye.
  4. Just win. Never worry about the other guys, just win.
  5. I sometimes wonder why I spend time on the internet as a whole, but this is a pretty good sports related group as groups go. If it disappeared tomorrow though I think I'd adjust fairly quickly.
  6. I won't disagree on Jost improving it, but it's still not a good line.
  7. So to be clear, you think Mitts-Jost-VO is a good line and it can compete head to head with the 3rd lines on playoff caliber teams. Is that correct?
  8. Joke, I know, but I'd guess they will trade him then so it is pretty interesting to see where he ends up. Hate him as much as you like, but if healthy he will be a bigger playoff impact player than Tarasenko. Rangers are a better team now though so I bet they knock off the Devils. Not Carolina though.
  9. He's still overpaid imo but I agree that he hasn't been bad this year, good at times, and is far from he problem. I know the modern kids don't like the old +/- but Skinner is plus 14 while Mitts is -13. The 3rd line on this team is the problem, not the 1st.
  10. Actually, although I know nobody wants to hear this, I expect him and Peterka to have a rough go of it in the next stretch as the hockey is going to get serious, more physical, and closer checked. No room for errors. I expect their ice time will be reduced on numerous occasions and some games they will outright struggle, until maybe the tail end of the year if we get discounted again. Depends how things go.
  11. Oh absolutely, and I'm not anointing them but they did look pretty good, and they are playing a tough defensive style that wins games at this time of the year (and in the playoffs). I think we have a better chance to catch aging Washington than them. Horvat just seems like a natural fit for that team too. His style matches theirs perfectly.
  12. I would suspect that they will be higher next year, just a question of how much. I'm not in the area so idk what they do for tickets and they might do this already, but if they are smart they will package up some of the stinker/dud games at a discount with the usual high demand games in order to drive up crowd sizes but overall it doesn't matter. If they win people will come.
  13. McAvoy is also worth comparing. 9.5 million. McAvoy was talked about as future captain when Bergeron retires, much like Dahlin has been talked about here. Different players but both cornerstones so that's an approx. number that makes sense to me.
  14. Islanders looked really good shutting out the Kraken tonight. Horvat is making an impact. I think they are going to surge and you might as well kiss one wildcard spot goodbye.
  15. lol, oh sure, cause everybody knows the only team in the Yukon is the Toronto Maple Leafs. Amusingly, if you look at his jerseys from his youth in this article, well..................it's destiny right? https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/north/dylan-cozens-nhl-draft-1.5149039 Good deal for both sides
  16. I could see NJ looking at the Hughes idea and I could see Vancouver shopping him around, but that price tag is insane. Nemec is going to be good. Mercer is going to be good. 3 for 1, Vancouver makes out like a bandit if this was a real deal.
  17. I don't want anybody from "then". Too much baggage and I don't want any of it coming back to this locker room. Once you've cleaned house you don't sweep things back in. Gavrikov might have bad metrics but he is on a bad team. He's a true rental that fits the role but I doubt very much Sabres want that. The Karlsson thing isn't crazy. Not necessarily a good idea, I flip flop on it myself, but he was/is Dahlin's idol as I remember Dahlin saying when we drafted him so pairing them together would be a dream for Dahlin.
  18. Well the mantra is "earn it" right, so you can't build a culture if you don't follow your own mantra. As such if a rookie plays better than a veteran he gets the spot. Has to work that way if that's your mantra. We will have injuries. There are always injuries. If the team has true depth there will be a rookie waiting for every position in the line up. He comes up and plays well enough he stays and Jost or whoever might become the next Vinnie. That's how it goes. It shouldn't be easy for a rookie to the make the line up. It should be really hard and they should have to work exceptionally hard to earn a spot and if they go up and down to the AHL so what? There's still plenty of room on this roster. The team is far from that good yet.
  19. To be fair, there aren't many mostly white uniforms that I like for any team.
  20. maybe, but what I was looking at more was a psychological effect. A re-branding if you like. In line with what the players say they like themselves.
  21. I'm not a medical expert but I do know that if you get a cross check on the side just around the waistline or bottom of the rib cage it hurts like hell, bruises deep and things can tighten up for weeks in response as it heals. Physio and rest and he will be fine. Back in the day I do remember having one win at any cost coach that actually wanted us to take cross checks in that area and towards the kidneys of opposing players. I'm sure some players still do that sort of thing even if it is a different kinder and gentler era.
  22. Management should pay attention to this. I can see how they would like them. Especially the younger guys. First, for the longer term players it's a break from what they've been wearing during the losing years. Puts emphasis on the new era idea (even if it is actually retro). Second, the red black and white with the goat head has a ferocity about it. It kind of implies we won't just duel with you we will run right over you to get to where we want. They're just tougher looking. mean even.
  23. Ya, I hate their tighty whities.
