I think Eichel makes JAG's score goals. Baptiste and Bailey don't necessarily need to be on his line to produce (although it would help their stats).

I felt the exact same way. The concept alone of replacing Ryan Miller would be daunting for any GM, and we entrusted it to a trigger-happy rookie GM. We're still paying for that one.

I had this same feeling when the idea of tanking was catching on. However, the fact that Jack was #2 overall, rather than #1, actually mitigates that a bit for me (probably just rationalizing, I know). I also like the fact that Jack is such a unique player. If we win a cup before the Oilers, it would truly be icing on the cake.

Personally, I never observed Sam before 2018 and thought he had "turned a corner" - even when he had productive stretches. He looked like a fantastic complementary player who knew how to pass and knew where to be to cash in on rebounds/setups Now, he looks like a player who, in addition, knows how to create space and is strong on the puck. I didn't think he'd ever be able to do this to this extent. Now, I think he realizes he can be even better at this than he has already become in 2018.

Consider Botterill signed Eichel before he had "proven" 10mil/year worth, and that he is a cap-management guy, and that a max term Reinhart contract has the upside of best cap-management strategy (albeit with some inherent risk that he doesn't live up to it). It also might come down to how Housley and GMBot perceive his character/work ethic. If they perceive it very positively, it could encourage them to pull the trigger on a contract with term

You do, however, get rewarded (extra pt) for being good at 3-on-3 or the shootout. What we know about Phil Housely as a coach is that he's not a prodigy/savant. Doesn't mean he won't turn out to be a fantastic coach. He's learning on the job. The Sabres sacrificed a season for Phil to get his together. Hopefully it pays off.
