Given he’s never played hockey at the professional level, I didn’t like how KA said Levi “earned” the right to those starts at the end of the season. Maybe I’m just taking issue with the word “earned”, but I could see UPL or Comrie having an issue with this. He should’ve just said “given his skill, we thought he gave our best chance for winning.”

He won his first game, he earned another. None of his games did he play himself out of the started spot.

What might be the best D corps in the league with 2 legit goalies is going to keep you in every game. And the top 4 are all between 25 and and 29. They aren't going to age out any time soon.

it's the forwards though,  specifically the centres. Bergeron, Krecji, Bertuzzi, Hathaway, and Foligno are all UFAs

The depth chart for next year right now is:

    • Marchand Zacha Pastrnak
    • Hall Coyle Debrusk
    • Frederic Steen Greer
    • Lauko Beecher Lysell

On paper, that's just not good enough.

They've got $10 million available under the cap to upgrade, but they also have to pay Swayman, as well as re-sign or replace Orlov and Clifton on the blueline with that.

Can they get some good players to sign cheap again? Will they trade a goalie and or a defenceman?

They're a well-run organization, so I'm sure they will come up with something.

I'm just really curious to see how and what.

That 10 million will be going down after this season, I’m not sure by how much though. According to capfriendly, the Bruins have ~30k of cap space left, with up to 4.7 million to pay for eligible bonuses. Any bonus overages count against next year’s cap space. I know Bergeron had 2.5 mil in bonuses based on games played, and I think Krecji had something similar. Regardless that number is more like 6-7.5

Team play style aside, Comrie has shown himself to be a competent backup before this year. I don't know enough to discuss whether Winnipeg's style fits with Comrie better than the Sabres'.

I would disagree with the bold, Comrie has shown he can be a competent backup, not that he was one. The most games he has played in a season has been 19, (starting 16 for Winnipeg, 19 this year) with a .920 save percentage one year, and a .886 the other year. His career save percentage is .897, not exactly competent level. 19 games is not statistically significant to show the quality of a goalie, and unless you have a top 10 goalie, 19 games is not enough for a backup.

I'd rather the Sabres win all of their remaining games and fall one point short of the playoffs than continue to circle the drain at a fast pace like they are doing now.  It woudl show heart, desire, an ability to get off the canvas, and set the right tone for the future.

That said, if Bedard is a Connor McDavid type, I'm in.  If he's Jack Eichel or even Alex LaFreniere, no thanks.  I don't follow hockey prospects that closely, so I honestly don't know.

Bedrard is easily the best prospect pre-draft since Dahlin, and arguably since Matthews or even McDavid. He currently has 70 goals and 72 assists in 55 WHL games. (An NHLe of 64 points) Matthews’ NHLe his draft year was 49 points, and Mcdavid’s was 68 points.
Bedrard is a little smaller than those too, so he may not translate to the NHL quite as seamlessly, but at this point he definitely looks more McDavid/Matthews than Eichel/Lafreniere.

I watched one Sens game and we wasn’t very good. Sanderson plays PP1 while Chabot plays PP2. I guess he will need some time to acclimate to that team but he will be complimentary, not a go to guy.

Which is probably what he would have been here, with Dahlin and Power running the other spots. In the end I’m quite alright with not getting Chychurn, I have faith in this team to do well next season.

What a contract price to. No other team can say they have a goalie that won them Stanley Cups for less than 1 mi AAV. My hats off to Levi for taking the discount route so we can win those cups.

You realize this was the maximum that he could get right?

  7. Yes and No. Before the season I thought he would be a 50-60 point guy competing with Cozens and perhaps switching on and off as 2C depending on matchups. Now I think he’ll stay at wing unless injuries cause a need for him to swing to center when necessary. But he looks likely to hit that 50-60 point range.

  8. What I’d like to try:

Same top 6 we’ve been seeing. Quinn has upped his game playing with Thompson and Skinner, and the second line has been performing well, mitts-Cozens is looking like a strong duo. If they slow down then I might look to replace Vinny, but for now, keep him there.
For the bottom 6, I really want to see Greenway-Jost together. I don’t like Girgs at center, so that leaves Krebs to center Girgs and Okposo, that line played well earlier in the season. I think Petereka will do better than Oloffson with Jost and Greenway, Oloffson is great if you have someone who can draw attention and leave him open for shots. I don’t see that happening much. I do think Peterka will benefit from being with 2 good forwards that are good in their own end and get some better opportunities with his speed on breakouts.
