I cannot make heads or tails of Carolina wanting to bring in that animatronic warm bottle of beer again. He got dirt on somebody there?
I believe he played pretty well during his year in Carolina, better than for his other teams.

I don't see Karlsson ending up there but you never know.
If I'm the Leafs I look at sending Nylander to San Jose in some complex deal involving some retention, but then again I said they should trade Nylander the FIRST time he held them hostage.
Not a chance San Jose goes for it. They aren’t going to compete this year, and Nylander has 1 year left on this contract. Trading Karlsson for Nylander would be a waste for SJ.

People around here tend to confuse what Mule will be with what he is.
Absolutely love him, but he’s played 109 NHL games. He’s behind Cozens and ahead of Krebs on his journey to where he’s going.
To be fair, Mule is a year older than Cozens and Krebs.

Mostly right but he has 4 seasons, one with 28 games COVID year. They could rule that is a full season. If they do, he could go to the Amerks.
He only has 3 AHL seasons, counting the Covid year.

That’s a good deal for Dallas

Sorry, but no way Mule gets 3rd pair minutes....too much defensive ability lost there....the only way he's not on the ice is for the PP or if he's injured.
If they were to run something like this, Samuelson would still be getting top 4 minutes. He’d still be getting PK time, and he’d be getting ~3-7 minutes a night with Dahlin on top of his time with his other partner.

Right now I think we’ll see Clifton and Jokiharju battle for the 4D spot and being Power’s partner. The loser will be 5D with Stillman, Boosh, and Johnson fighting for 6D. I think we end up carrying 8D and end up picking one of UPL/Comrie to keep on the roster. Bryson I think gets sent to Rochester and probably clears waivers at camp.
We could also see Jokiharju flipped for a solid 3rd pairing Ld or part of a package for a 4D.There’s also a wacky idea of trying to run 3 balanced pairings.
Dahlin-Johnson
Power-Clifton
Samuelson-Jokiharju
The idea of this would be to run Power-Clifton on 2nd pairing minutes, while the other pairs play 3rd pair minutes. Samuelson-Dahlin take on extra shifts, especially in important moments to make up the difference. It may not be effective, but I am a little worried about having 2 righties on a third pair. Dahlin has the talent to thrive on his off hand, but I doubt our third pairing players can, and I prefer Stillman as a 7/8 D.

Liking the Jost signing, liking the size and contract length of EJ. Loving this signing for bottom 6, he's physical.
He’s a defenseman

Not thrilled with who who they decided to go after, but happy that they picked up 2 legitamite NHL defenseman.

Either they are confident that Jokiharju will be fine at 4D or there is another add, IMO

Where does he fit?
I think he pushes Stillman to 7D right now.

I don’t dislike it, but I hope there is another add.

Schenn to the Preds on a 3 year deal, wow
The Predators signed Luke Schenn on a three-year, $8.25 million deal.
Goaltender Antti Raanta is back with the Hurricanes on a $1.5 million contract.

No other issues. Decent team most years that was never quite good enough to win the cup. Last year there were too many injuries to overcome, the only GM in franchise history retired, the old core is aging and trotts is blowing it up. While Technically not the GM at the time, every move from the Jeannot trade was Trotts doing.
The signing of Ryan O Reilly better explains it. There were reports of Ryan O Reilly and Duchene not getting along back in the Colorado days.

He's sort of this years version of JJ Peterka and Kulich
Hopefully he shows to be as promising as they are.

Duchene would be a good fill in for Quinn while he's out. Potted 40 two years ago playing with Forsberg and Granlund. Decent production last year considering the linemates, but not 8M worth. Responsible defensively. Good locker room guy in Nashville, can't speak to previous teams. I think he'd look good with Cousins and JJ, I'd be happy if they picked him up. Could probably flip him at the deadline for a 2nd if they wanted.
If he was a good locker room guy in Nashville, I don't understand why Nashville would buy him out. They save some space this season, but the next two have a lot of dead cap. Seems excessive for someone a year removed from such a great season, unless there are other issues.

Wow, Savoie and Benson seem to have a ton of chemistry. If they play together next season and build that some more as well as build up some more strength, could see a Benson-Savoie-Greenway line, or something to that effect.

Does his contract year slide ?
No, he played a full season in the NHL last year, contracts don’t slide after that.

Let him cook for 4-5 years and see if he becomes something useful.

Joe Dibiase made a comparison that the more I think about it the more I like: Pavel Datsyuk
High IQ very creative playmaker, excellent defensive forward, magician at stripping pucks from opposing players.
If we got a Pavel Datsyuk at 13 OA, the rest of the draft would hardly matter, and I like what Kevyn Adams did with the other high picks.

You put him ahead of Savoi and Kulich?
Definitely ahead of Savoie. They played on the same line and Benson outproduced Savoie, while bringing a better defensive game.
Kulich is a more interesting question, he’s shown a lot of development over the last year, with a great world juniors and a strong. AHL campaign. But I think overall, Benson gets the slight nod. -
I like the draft a lot. Benson should fit into the emerging top 6 of the future, and may end up being Skinner’s eventual replacement. I don’t think his size will be too much of an issue as we should still have Cozens, Thompson, and Tuch in the top 6, as well as average sized players in Quinn and JJP who should round it out. (Obviously a number of other prospects will be vying for top 6 minutes in the next few years)
Wahlberg should fit in nicely as a 3 or 4C for us in the future. He’ll bring some size to our bottom six and will have the skill to keep up with the skilled wingers that don’t make the top 6.
Strbak was a great pick, and I see him developing into a solid stay at home Dman, either as a 4 or 5D. It’ll take some time for him to get there though, so we need to add another Dman this offseason.
McCarthy also has a shot at becoming a bottom pairing defenseman for the Sabres, or at least Quality depth. Local kid that probably fits the wanting of on be here bill.
I like the shot at the goalie, he’s got an outside shot at becoming something. Nice to see the goalie pipeline getting stocked back up.
Not much opinion on the rest, but I like what we came away with. Excited for free agency and seeing if we can get some help on defense, but this is a good start to the offseason.

That’s good to hear. Other than size, it seemed like agility was the biggest concern for Benson making it in the NHL.
