We literally just let them stand right in front of UPL rubbing up on him and screening him untouched. WTF, d-man should be all over these mofo's pushing them out of the crease and away from our goalie.

Clear the friggin crease! Make them pay for standing there! Unreal 2 easy goals because our defense can't play with some physicality.

I think at least some of that has to do with being on the pk, at least the second one on 5v3. If one guy works on clearing the net, it leaves a 4v2, not exactly something you can expect to prevent a goal on.

We have goal scorers. Looking at our current roster, we will eventually need players to fill in our 3rd/4th line. Are you suggesting these types of players are needed more than a 3/4 defenseman? is Savoie this type of player? I get it Savoie is highly touted and am not suggesting he a bust, but you need to trade quality for quality. No one else in our pipeline would really move the needle for Chychrun and I’m not moving the 2023 1st.

    Couple things:

Chychurn has been bad on his right side. Any trade for Chychurn likely means Power is moving to Rd or Chychurn is playing on the third pair. Power moving to Rd may work out, but most defenseman are significantly worse on their off-hand. I would not pay the cost to put Chychurn on the third pair, and doubt it would be worth it to move Power to Rd and pay for Chychurn. Especially when considering how much Chychurn has been hurt.

There’s also nothing wrong with having goal scorers on the third line. The panther’s regular season success last season was a good chunk due to the depth of their forwards and being able to score with their bottom 6. The Avalanche last year had Burkakovsky on their third line, helping them win a cup. In a couple years we could have a second line caliber third line with Krebs/Östlund/Kulich/Savoie/Rosen.

A major driver of Chychurn’s trade value is his contract, which Buffalo wouldn’t get as much benefit from when compared to other teams. After this season, he’ll have 2 more years at 4.6 million, which is good value for the play you’d be getting. Sabres are not expected to be tight on cap during those seasons, so there is less value in his contract when compared to other buyers. However, by the time that contract expires, Dahlin and Power will likely (hopefully) be signed to big deals, and it’d be hard to fit another big defenseman contract.

A trade would probably end up being 2.5 years of Chychurn for 7(+\-) years of Savoie, 7(+\-) years of 2023 draft pick +. That is not something I have interest in.

Question for the pros. With blood flow stopped (or inadequate in the case of vfib), if CPR started almost immediately and he got defibrillated quickly, why wouldn't we expect a full recovery?

Are the cardiac arrest mentions in the media necessarily accurate?

Today is brush up on CPR day.

Obviously we are all hoping for a full recovery for Damar. The big worry is that he had CPR for a while, (9 mins from a report I saw), where he wasn’t breathing. ~10 minutes with little to no oxygen to the brain is rough on you.

Granato making some bad decisions tonight... Overplaying Dahlin and his first line AGAIN in back to back nights while his rookies sit on the bench and watch...

Not pulling the goalie on 3 face-offs in the offensive zone makes no sense... we had to score...

I dunno when we became a 1 line team and Granato started this crap with overplaying Dahlin and his first line, but it needs to stop, now.

The first line all played less than 20 minutes. That’s reasonable for a first line of a team that is down and is trying to win. Dahlin did play a lot, but he was the best looking Sabre out there tonight IMO.

Is Bedard as good as McDavid?

Probably not, but he’s not terribly far off. Bedrard this year has had an NHLe of 57 points in the WHL, McDavid had an NHLe of 68 points in his draft year. I believe Bedrard is having a better WJCs than McDavid, so a lot remains to be seen.

Hell this past off-season, he could have traded for Georgiev and Vanacek who were available RFAs and instead he went the cheaper route and signed Comrie.  Had I been in charge I might have taken a flier on Vanacek and Comrie and let them battle it out for the No. 1 job.   Both guys were mentioned in last off-season's thread as available.  Both have proven to be substantial upgrades over what we have.

The price for Georgiev was a 2nd, a 6th both in 2022 and a 3rd in 2023.  Not exactly a huge sum.  Vanecek went for a similar price, a 2nd and a 3rd in 2022.  We could have easily afforded these prices and it wouldn't have affected our pipeline much as all.  We basically would have parted with the pick we used on Leinonen (who won't help us for at least 5 years) and other even less valuable pieces.

    Couple things:

Comrie said that he came here for the opportunity, if we brought in another goalie he probably wouldn’t have come here, as there would have been better options for him as a backup.

Hindsight is 20/20, VERY FEW people on here wanted anything to do with Georgiev who last year posted a .898 while Shesterkin put up a .935.

  7. I think it depends a lot still. If Comrie is back today, you send UPL down. If UPL has 2 more good games or so before Comrie is back, send Comrie on a conditioning stint, and see if UPL can keep it up. If UPL keeps up the play then we could try to slip Comrie through waivers or roster 3 goalies (only if we’re healthy on defense).

When you ice the puck you can't change players out.  The forwards behing closer to the bench managed to change out, but Muel and Dahlin were stuck out there.  But you're right:  You don't playing ANYONE for 3 minutes straight when you're trying to protect a lead.

IN UPL WE TRUST was the motto of this game.

To be fair there was a solid amount of breaks in play for that final 3 minutes, and we are missing our 2nd pairing.

Am still hoping that w/ Power & Dahlin we end up w/ both Robinson AND Potvin.

Dahlin was billed as generational and, though it took a while to show more than just glimpses of it, he might actually be.

Power was never billed THAT highly.  He merely steps in & dominates after a short acclimation period.  He's the defenseman version of Quinn.  And totally off on a tangent, when's the last time a team had a F & a D that were that young that ramped up their play that quickly?  Honestly don't have an example immediately springing to mind.  (Maybe Bourque & Pederson before the wrist surgery?)

Seider and Raymond last year for Detroit? (57 points for Raymond, 50 for Seider)
