To answer the question you can trade for him and re-sign him without other teams bidding for him. I highly doubt a Stanley Cup winning goalie will want to come to a team who hasn't made the playoffs in 12 years though.

I'd be very surprised to think Fleury would sign here or Husso, why would either come to a non contending team? Other than money which both will most likely get on a winning team.

I can't speak for him but I've read alot on how trades really mess with personal lives of athletes and I'd guess it was him not wanting to relocate for the 3rd or 4th time. Again I have no way of knowing this but if he saw it as a neutral move why would he you know?

I said yes, we need to add size. Some of those guys you mention are big but don't throw their weight around. I don't need to have everyone destroying people every other play but I want guys who can take hits and keep on trucking. I have no problem picking up smaller skilled players as long as the whole team doesn't look like that.

I'm not surprised, until we start winning these older goalies want to win a Cup. It's hard to see the Sabres as a Cup contender anytime soon unless your a fan like we are.

I think a smart approach would be to target 1 if the RFA Washington Capitals goalies, either 25 year old Illya Samsonov (23W-12L-6OTL) or 26 year old Vitek Vanecek (20W-12L-6OTL). I personally like Samsonov, his age fits more where we are and I think he's further along. I don't think the Capitals would be able to absorb a large offer imo.

So Portillo/Levi didn't sign, we re-signed 90 year old Anderson to hopefully be the backup and couldn't even get a Solid yet not elite starter like Linus Ullmark to sign. I'm not trying to be a debbie downer but I think some of you drink the kool aid way too much. Not that there is anything we can do about it so whining about it doesn't help either but I find it far from an ideal scenario.

I mean couldn't they have signed Anderson to start and UPL back him up? It's all speculation at this point.

Gotchya, I personally hope we try to sign Holtby, every single season but the past 2 he's had more wins than losses and just feel like he has plenty left in the tank.

I chose 4x4.5, I think that's the right number and about when we'll want to get out. He's going to be 27 on July 18th, which isn't terribly old but we have prospects Quinn, Peterka who I'd like to get significant playing time. Plus we'll eventually be paying out Dahlin, Thompson, Power, Jokiharu, Samuelson and Tuch in the not so distant future.

I'd wait to see if it was a fluke or not, it was his best season by far. If he does the same or better then we will have plenty to pay him.

I'm cool with it this year and then give it to Tuch who is just as deserving of the C imo moving forward.
