  1. We do have the most leverage on Jack. He has a deal with us and KA can simply say we aren't trading you ever. We are going to build around you as our top line center and want you to play out your contract. End of story. Reinhart on the other had has a ton of leverage. He can take the team to arbitration play out the final year here and become an UFA after next season. If that is his stance KA would likely have to trade him this offseason or at the deadline to avoid losing him for nothing.
  2. What does this team look like if KA goes for the maximum upheaval strategy? This assumes Jack, Sam and Risto are traded and McCabe and Ullmark aren't re-signed. Skinner ????? R2 Mittelstadt VO Asplund Cozens Thompson Girgensons ????? Okposo Dahlin Jokiharju ????? ????? Bryson Borgen
  3. Do you really want to discuss Jack going to 31 different teams? @dudacek is a smart guy and my guess is with a little research he could come up with 8 or 10 reasonable possibilities. Vogl on the Athletic did exactly that already. For example, do really think Jack wants to go to Ott or NJ? They have the need, cap and assets but what is the likelihood of Jack wanting to work through another rebuild in those cities and therefore demanding a trade? I'd say they odds are very high he'd want out and they'd have to trade him at the deadline to avoid his NMC. Under this scenario why would they even make us an offer for his services? That doesn't mean it won't happen, it's just not likely. The opposite is also true. Some of the best teams either don't have one or more of the following such as the need or the cap or the assets to get a deal done. Do you really think that a deal with Pittsburgh is likely?
  4. Like all good questions, the answer is it depends. What is KA’s off-season strategy? Is KA going down that maximum upheaval strategy of moving on from Jack, Sam, Risto, McCabe and Ullmark? Essentially distilling the team down to Cozens, Mitts, R2, VO, Thompson, Asplund, Dahlin, Joki, Bryson and Borgen (or Samuelsson). Is KA going for maximum retention by re-sign Ullmark and McCabe and keeping at least one of Jack or Sam, while using Risto and one of Jack or Sam as trade bait to fill other holes or is he plotting a middle course? It’s a very hard decision. His strategy may depend on what kind of offers he gets for the Tank Fruit. If I were the GM, I’d re-sign Ullmark first and foremost and then look at the offers I receive for Jack and Sam and see the lay of the land. I’m not interested in moving on from both guys. Risto is a whatever. If KA moves on from both a high end 2C at least must comeback in one of the deals. Still the needs are the same; 2 reliable goaltenders, 2 veteran defensive D, a 4C and more physical play in the top 9 forwards. Moving Jack and Sam also creates a hole at 1C.
  5. I never said no small cities. I’m sure Jack would be happy in Nashville for example. He’d be happy here if we had a decent club. What I said was good teams that can afford Jack cap wise, are a good fit hockey wise and have assets/prospects we want. That is a very short list and WPG isn’t on it. It’s not a great fit hockey wise and no I don’t like the deal you are listing.
  6. A couple of thoughts 1) Anyone trading for Jack will have the same problem we have if he doesn't want top be there such as WPG. Given his NMC clause kicks in after next season and his current injury situation it's almost like he NMC is already in effect. KA, if he wants to trade him, is going to have to find some place Jack is a good fit hockey wise, who has the assets we want/need for Jack, and is willing to take on the cap and injury risk. Trade him to SJ to play with his buddy Kane. Good luck KA. 2) May I suggest therefore we limit these threads to teams where at least Jack may want to go.
  7. What? We traded away the better player and lost the trade. Which is exactly what I said. The only way you improve when you make such a trade is make other good moves and also have your kids improve also as I wrote above. Jbot failed to make the necessary other moves and failed because of it. Who cares how ROR did with St Louis. We all knew we wouldn’t go forward when Jbot didn’t properly replace him. What? Ullmark was in net. When he was the goalie under RK we were on pace for 96 pts. Under Granato and with Ullmark we played at a 108 pt pace. Nice try.
  8. Go find me another top 6 physical forward that is available to acquire.
  9. That's only if you want to retain his rights once he becomes an RFA. If the Sabres trade for him, the contract extension will be worked out immediately or no trade will happen. Think about how we re-signed ROR immediately after the trade.
  10. Where are you getting the $9 mill figure. He is in the same class as Sam as a player. No one is talking about giving Sam $9 mill. 7 for 7 seems to be the number. Tkatchuk makes 7 now. Why does he deserve a raise?
  11. Are you saying he is washed up at 23? Give me a break. He is a career 12% shooter. Like Jack, Skinner, Hall etc.. he had a career year two years ago shooting 16%. This season he shot 9%. Unlike Hall whose shooting % has been shrinking for a decade, Tkachuk is 23. It's more likely he goes back to his career numbers then not. Like Skinner he needs a center that can get him into the right position to score. Unlike Skinner, this kid can physically win battles in front and contribute on the PP.
  12. Goals yes (.43 to .24), assists no (approx .5 all 3 years). Still he was .75 points per game this past season. Only Reinhart put up .75 pts per game for the Sabres this season. In fact both players had 40 pts in 54 games this past season. Maybe the trade is to keep Jack and trade Reinhart and pieces for Tkachuk and pieces.
  13. I think he is saying RK didn't want Rossi. Another turd to add to the RK file. Of course you can. Tkachuk is exactly what this team needs up front, but you can't trade Jack and Sam. If you plan to trade Jack you must re-sign Samson.
  14. https://theathletic.com/2589430/2021/05/14/eichel-to-calgary-quinton-byfield-jonathan-quick-and-more-for-eichel-here-are-some-jack-eichel-trade-proposals/ The Athletic listed 8 possible trades for Eichel. My favorites - Calg - Tkachuk, Connor Zary & a 1st. AZ - Keller, Kuemper and a 1st TB - Cirelli, and Sergachev for Eichel.
  15. will say that if the Bills win the Super Bowl?
  16. One thought about Rossi, he could end up coming here in a trade for Eichel.
  17. No matter what happens we’ll “lose” an Eichel trade because the team that trades away the better player always loses the deal but that doesn’t mean we can’t get better by making the trade. Carolina traded us Skinner for Pu and got better. Colorado traded ROR to us and got better. It depends on what else we do and how the kids develop. We were better last year without Eichel. Trade Eichel for Matt Tkachuk, get goaltending, keep Reinhart and we will be better.
  18. I understood the reference, but was giving a Sabres context. 😎
  19. Looking at raw numbers from the ROR trades A. Colorado received Grigorenko, Zadorov, Compher and the 31st pick (which they traded for the 39th in 2015, 40th in 2016 and a 6th in 2017). AJ Greer is the top player from those three picks. So far they have received the following 746 NHL games, 141 g 136 a and 224 pts. Only Compher is still with the Avs, but Zadorov gave them the most games at 289 games so far. B. Buffalo received ROR, McGinn and then McGinn was traded for a pick which was traded for the failed rights to Vesey. We received 224 games from ROR. Totals for ROR and McGinn 267 games, 79g, 124a 203 pts C. We traded ROR to STL for Berglund, Sobatka, Thompson, a 1st (Johnson) and a 2nd in 2021 (traded for Colin Miller). Totals so far with Miller 311 games 28g 41a 69 pts but Thompson finally earned a full time gig with the Sabres and Johnson will be in the NHL soon. Honestly the Sabres arguably won the first trade as we got the best player and none of Grigorenko, Compher and Zadorov didn't become stars but at least Compher and Thompson were and are good depth pieces. The Sabres lost the second trade as all we got so far is the cap savings on ROR and when Berglund left. This could drastically improve if Thompson grows into a middle 6 power forward and Johnson becomes at 2nd line pairing NHL D. So did we get as much for ROR as Colorado got from us? Grigorenko, Compher, Zadorov and Greer vs Junk (Sobotka and Berglund to make the cap work), Miller, Johnson and Thompson. Based on where they prospects/young players were drafted ( 2 mid 1sts and 2 high 2nds vs 2 lower 1sts and a 2nd), Colorado did better but not significantly. So the question comes down to since Greer and Grigorenko are busts is Compher vs Thompson and Zadorov vs Johnson. This is pretty even if Johnson becomes a legit NHL D. That said had Greer and Grigorenko not busted, Colorado would win by a large margin.
  20. Jacque Richard?
  21. Wasn’t that an operating theater?
  22. It’s very popular in Canada but originated in the US in 1981. Here is a crazy candy bar fact. Kit Kat was created by Rowntree in the UK. They licensed Kit Kat production to Hershey in the US in the 1970s but they sold to Nestles in 1988. So Kit Kat’s are made by Nestles around the world except in the US. Hershey keeps the license as long as it isn’t sold.
  23. Yes I'm bored, plus I dearly miss going to the movies. So, why not a list that picks up most of the fruit candy people also enjoy. My choices so far; Twizzlers, Jujy Fruits and probably Milk Duds.
  24. You avoid the issue and sign Houser first. That gives you 2 draft eligible guys. You trade Tokarski to Fla with a pick for Dreidger.
