Devon Levi watch, update: he's returning to college
GASabresIUFAN replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
He may go back to school as NE is a very young team which should be good again next year. Also, despite all the injuries, the team has healthy goalies at all 3 levels. They also have to negotiate the $ and whether they will born year 1 or not. My guess is he signs for 1st rd money, plays all 3 years on an ELC, and reports to Rochester on an ATO. If an ATO, the Sabres are probably going to have to buy some sort of insurance to protect him financially from injury. -
Brad Lambert is going to be our pick in the 8th slot. (Note the Sabres currently lie 7th, but only a win away from overtaking Chicago for 8th) Current standings (that matter) Det (9) 64 gp 26 W - 31 L - 7 OT/SOL for 59 pts 23 ROW; 2-7-1 in the last 10 Chi (8) 65 gp 24 - 32 - 9 = 57 20 ROW; 4-5-1 in the last 10 Buf (7) 65 gp 23 -33 - 9 = 55 20 ROW; 6-3-1 in the last 10 Phi (6) 65 gp 21 - 33 - 11 = 53 21 ROW; 4-5-1 in the last 10 Ott (5) 64 gp 23 - 36 - 5 = 51 22 ROW; 4-6-0 in the last 10 NY (4) 64 gp 23 - 36 - 5 = 51 21 ROW; 4-6-0 in the last 10 The Sabres are 4 points from 9th (worst record) and 4 pts from 4th (worst record). Depending on how teams play down the stretch we could easily slip down the standings. However, I think the odds favor us moving up the standings as we seem the only bottom echelon team moving in a winning direction although none of "competition" is playing badly other then Det. SJ at 10 has a 9 point cushion on us with 64 pts. We aren't making up 9 points in the 17 games remaining. If things ended today, Fla's pick would be 31 and LV's 16.

That 2019 draft class is looking better all the time. Johnson and Portillo pro hockey bound after the NCAA ends. Cederqvist no. 2 in SHL U22 scorers. Huglen blossoming in Minn. Rousek finally health and playing for the Amerks. -

Last time the Sabres played 4 OT/SO game in a row was 3-12-2012 to 3-17-2012 (2-0-2) They actually played 5 straight from 11-6-2010 to 11-15-2010 (4-0-1) -
Has he signed yet?

Are Quinn & JJP ready? Can Mitts and Dylan make a TNT type jump? Vogl doesn't really mention adding a veteran D, but does mention the uneven "handedness." Vogl agrees with goaltending is highest off-season priority. Vogl seems to think that KA will continue to focus on the youth. While that's ok in general, it is no longer acceptable to to just let continued natural growth fuel improvement. It's time to upgrade the forward depth and add veteran D and goaltending.

They brought a knife to a gun fight.

Nice goal by the Huskies. I guess Levi isn't getting pulled. Levi makes that save! 🙂 ....and then Levi did make the save on a similar play 60 seconds later.
-
I asked myself this earlier and I think KA would be just as happy to have him win and gain more playoff experience. We currently have 6 healthy goalies in the system right now. Levi is also very very quick on his skates.
-
Must admit that I was annoyed when the announcers said Levi should stay in school because it's much more fun then riding buses in the AHL. While there is some truth to that statement, after watch Levi in this game, I'm not sure he has anything left to learn in the NCAA.

Can Jacob Bryson be effective in the playoffs?
GASabresIUFAN replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
Assuming we ever get back to the playoffs and Bryson is still on the team when that happens, sure Bryson can succeed in the playoffs. We just can't have a team of mighty mites. We need a diversified mix of guys. I think that is what we are building to. We have big guys like Tuch, Thompson, Samuelsson and Power. Dahlin and Cozens are proving pretty feisty as well. I don't see having a couple of smaller guys as an issue. Also Bryson's decision making and positioning are excellent. He is also very quick. He avoids many potential problems with those attributes. -
Huskies looking much better this period. Doing a better job taking the game to WM.
-
NE is also the 3rd youngest team in the NCAA. WM is among the most experienced. I think that is what we are seeing so far.
-
Levi is the reason they are only down 1-0. Should be 3-0.
-
Northeastern being manhandled right now. Their talking about Levi's excellent positioning which is very evident already.
-
I bet Adams has a contract in his pocket. This is the first time I've watched Levi live. That was an incredible save. Can I say Hasek-ish?

Do You Think Sabres Will Make Playoffs Next Year?
GASabresIUFAN replied to bob_sauve28's topic in The Aud Club
There is no question that without better goaltending this team is going no where fast, but the East is loaded with good teams. Of the 8 playoffs teams in the East, I think only Wash looks primed to take a step back as they deal with older players, cap issue and erratic goaltending. However, Carolina, Tampa, Bos, Tor, Fla, the Pens and Rags all look to be able to stay in contention next year as well. For us to make the playoff we are going to need to get better goaltending, the kids have to continue to progress, the roster needs to stay healthy and consistently beat those 8 teams. To me it looks like a tall order for next year but not impossible. -
Couldn't agree more, but worry that KA already has him in stone as the Sabres' backup next season.

No but it will be close if they get good goaltending and stay healthy. -
Jacob Bryson appreciation and defensive skill
GASabresIUFAN replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
Who said he was trash? He had some rough games earlier this year and was benched, but if you read the article above he learned a great deal from watching the game from pressbox. Since he has returned he has played excellently. He showed flashes of this last year. His metrics last year if I remember correctly were very good. -
ok so, 5-2 against backups and 2-1 against starters.

Jacob Bryson appreciation and defensive skill
GASabresIUFAN replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
I'll respectfully disagree. Jacob is much more mobile and is better offensively. He is definitely ahead of Fitz on the depth chart now that he is showing he can be very effective on his off-side. Bryson is going to be the utility D, who plays both side depending on injury. Fitzgerald is going to end up in the Rory Fitzpatrick role of 7th D who ends up playing 55-60 games as an injury fill in. -

He looked fine with Dahlin also. https://www.buffalohockeybeat.com/sabres-jacob-bryson-elevating-game-to-new-level/
