There's plenty of fish in the sea. He's moved on, I think you should too. ❤️ -

Of all the straws to break the camels back, this was yours. 👏 -
2 goals for Anton Wahlberg tonight. That's 3G and 2A in 7 games for a young 19yo C. Hopefully he keeps it up.

Anyone else find that Peterka might have slipped a bit since the start of the season? -

Power's been his partner so he's been dragged down. Power was good for this stat last year. -

Yeah... It'd just be nice to have him close by. One, he could definitely be a big help to the Amerks. Two, if he makes a big jump, we can bring him up to the big club a lot easier. -

Just looked up his elite prospects page. Is there room for a modestly sized 21yo winger on our roster that has about 0.75ppg in the KHL? Would rather see him in Rochester, but I would think there'd be a low chance of him improving this team over what we already have. -
Bowen Byram- After a tough start, continues to improve

He also leads the D in high danger scoring chances against. Don't be fooled by his draft pedigree or his smooth skating. He is hurting us more than anyone. -
I hear what you're saying but it's way too early. It's like a batter starting the MLB season batting over .500 or under .100. Eventually there's a regression to the mean. Not sure what that mean is with UPL yet (or Levi), but I think it's higher than what we're seeing now.

Bowen Byram- After a tough start, continues to improve
JoeSchmoe replied to JoeSchmoe's topic in The Aud Club
Did you look at the first post. He's got a horrendous relative expected goal %. When he's on the ice the team expected goal % is 39.5%. Once he's off the ice the team expected goal % is 54.7%. This is the worst relative gap on the team, by a fair margin. Last year, if you combine his numbers between CO and BUF only Isak Rosen and Tyson Jost come out with a worse relative gap on the team. Long story short, he gives up too many chances when he's on the ice and generates relatively few. -

Expected goals definitely needs to be taken with a grain of salt... Some factors to consider: -As your sample size increases, factors like shooting percentages become more about skill and less about luck. Some guys will always sit low on expected goals vs actual goals because they execute on more of the chances they get (Tage, Matthews, etc) -The matchups you get greatly affect your %'s. If you're a shutdown guy you'll sit low. -Your linemates play a big role. Clifton is a lot better this year now that he's not playing with Johnson. The only thing with Byram is, I can't think of any grains of salt that explain/justify his low career numbers. Age maybe? Still learning the position? -

I don't like the Byram trade, but I don't think I've said much of anything about anyone else. I think/hope Quinn and Cozens will get it together. I've also posted on the positivity thread and told the OP to keep it up. There's much to be hopeful about, but if we see less of #4 in favour of Bryson (my personal pick) or Johnson, we'll be even better off. -

It's not as hard as it sounds. You can quite easily measure shot differential of when he's on the ice vs when he's off the ice. If you also apply a quality rating to each of the shots, you get this stat. Byram gives up a ton of high danger scoring chances when he's on the ice. The brain fart the other night against FL was a good example. We also get hemmed in a lot when he's on D... He's not good at winning pucks (positional awareness, battle skill, finding outlet passes). He also doesn't generate many 5 on 5 scoring opportunities. I find he's got good edges and agree that he looks like a good hockey player. But he was a net negative on CO, despite having an elite team around him, and he's just flat out bad with us. Bryson was good last year and would be another option here. -

Sorry, I'm not sure what sure what part you're referring to. What I'm saying is 5 on 5, his chance to give up chances ratio (weighted for how good the chance is) is worst on the team. When he's on the ice, the other team is better and we're worse. -

I think he had a hand in us being this far under the cap. That was likely the driving force behind this trade- given Mitts was up for a raise. So yes, blame Pegula for sure. -

You want it... You got it! Acquiring him for Mittelstadt was Adams' worst, yet least scrutinized trade. Everyone just assumed he was a #3 D and there was almost nothing in his playing history to support it (just an uptick during CO's cup run and his 2019 4th OA pick). -

I'm not sure what you've been watching but his decision making and positioning is terrible. I've said this before in other threads but Byram was also a negative expected goal player (not relative but absolute) on Colorado which is really hard to do on a team that good, unless you're ONLY getting the really tough matchups. Byram was not that guy. -

You can't look at all situations because if one guy plays on the power play more (Byram) and another plays on the penalty kill more (Samuelson) then you're comparing apples to oranges. Of course you're going to get more expected goals on the PP vs PK. EDIT- just to elaborate some more, advanced stats almost exclusively look at 5 on 5 to take out this major difference. If keen GM were to say though, this guy kinda sucked 5 on 5 expected goal wise but is deadly on the PP, we might be able to mine this undervalued talent for less than market value. Edit 2- On the surface Malenstyn and Aube-Kubel were advanced stats nightmares. But it looks like Adams did his homework and found they had an unprecedented level of defensive assignment last year. Taking that into account, it seems he made a concerted effort to get both of them. Small sample size, but I've really liked A-K and Malenstyn has been okay too. -
