the Leafs Achilles heel might be the defense. Generally the young guys need time to season on D. My guess is they will make a savvy trade eventually to shore it up before the playoffs. They know this. They are smart. But yes, JBOT clearly upgraded our d. I suspect we may have a top 5 contenders defense in 2-3 years with depth. The forward group is another story.

This is an upgraded “patch a raft” lineup that’s temporary. There is a slew of kids in the system that much more fit JBots vision. If half of them turn out in Rochester expect another turn over like this next year, another trade and we might start seeing JBots true vision coming together. Unfortunately that means 2 more years until we think playoffs. If this is our roster 80-85 points max in my opinion but Improvment and development.

Subtract JVR and Bozak production and there is not a big difference for Toronto. The question will be what he can do in the playoffs vs the other two. I’m not handing Toronto the cup yet. We’ll see.

I figured Toronto... they are probably going to be the best team next year... but I don’t know if the defense is mature enough to win a cup.

I think it’s clear from the price being #3 and JBots comments last night, ROR only gets moved for an overpayment... which is the right approach imo. He has great value to the team right now as JBot said

I love the way Jbot is building depth. This was not going to be fixed in two drafts. I suspect another couple drafts and the organization will be set for becoming a long term contender for the next decade.

Bergevin was silly not to take JBots offer at #3 imo. Not saying that was bad for us necessarily but he will lose his job before that kid is ready (and he reached). ROR makes them better today.

I couldnt believe how genuinely excited he was to get here listening to him on WGR's Brian Koziol show. Apparently Eichel called him too.
