I don’t see any issue with what botts said. If it’s guartenteed he would be signed already. If he’s close to signing botts would still say a similar type thing. This isn’t really newsworthy imo.

Then forward is fine by me. I'm still going with 3 years. Look at our last two 8th overall picks. Neither has had a meaningful contribution yet. Nylander has had 3 years and has not.

I would define it as who has the best chance at becoming the best player. Period. Regardless of position. It really wasn't that long ago we were screaming for more D. The 7th overall pick will likely take at min. 3 years before any meaningful contribution. Maybe we've traded away two D prospects to upgrade our forwards by then. I have no idea what will happen in the next 3 years. That's why I'm ALWAYS going BPA.

Go BPA. Always go BPA. Wasn't long ago Centre was our biggest strength and D was biggest weakness. I think there's an argument to be made that both are the exact opposite a short 2-3 years later.

So I haven't been up to date with the draft as much as past years. I was going to read up on the old draft thread but it's now gone. Cole's note version, what kind of prospect should we expect at 7? Some years the draft is much deeper at the top, other years it's weak after the first two or three picks. Hearing some names but haven't read anything yet.....

I think this is a whole different point. I completely agree you need good goaltending. Until we get that this team isn't going anywhere regardless of who coaches. I could see a quick turnaround and playoffs but we're not a real contender until we figure out what's going on in net. I would still want AV even with what we have and hope Ullmark makes a big jump next year or Botts can find a way to figure it out. Again, that will be an issue with any coach we hire.

But again. Wouldn't making the second round 2 years ago negate this point? By the way, I enjoy the discussion.

Google the 2016/2017 Rangers roster. He took THAT team to the second round.....in 2017.

His teams were bad the last two years but he went to the second round in 2017. That's not that long ago. Edit - Sorry, he was only bad for one season as Quinn coached last year. Second round in 2017.
