  1. I was 4 years old.  My uncle, who became a Sabres fan after listening to Rick Darling (then RJ) on the radio, converted me young.  Much to the chagrin of my leaf fan father.

Fast forward to 1999 leaf/sabres playoff gameday.  I didn't have the hatred for leafs at this point but was a pretty big sabres fan still.  I'm walking down the road at 14 with my Sabres jersey on and some guy driving in a truck rolls down his window, yells 'go leafs go' and whips his half drank beer can out the window at me.  Maybe it says something more about Oshawa than leaf fans but I have had a deep hatred for the leafs and all of their fans ever since.....

no of course not. What I'm saying is that we are in a better position to weather a short term absence of Dahlin vs Samuelsson.  Ultimately it comes down to where the depth in our organization.  How many teams have a No 1 over all D as the anchor of the 2nd pair? Zero outside of the Sabres, but that fact means we have great depth there then we do in D first players like Samuelsson.

Man I just can’t imagine relying on a rookie to step in and fill Dahlin shoes.  I love power and Muel as much as the next guy but Dahlin and TNT are the mvp and either goes down…well I don’t want to think of anyone going down.

That's where we disagree.  Power would pick up the extra duties and he is a budding dynamic player who can run the 1st PP.  After Samuelsson who do we have that is on that level defensively?  No one.  Joki is second, but he isn't exactly stellar defensively and Bush isn't good.

Are you seriously suggesting Dahlin is easily replaceable?  He is playing at a Norris calibre level this season.  Sheesh.

I consistently undervalue Muel's importance to this team.  The Bill Hajt comparisons made earlier on the board pan out.  I consistently undervalued Hajt and he's one of my favorite Sabres of all time.  Like Hajt, Muel is rarely out of position and plays a quietly stellar defensive game.  It's a pleasure to witness, really.

I'm so glad we have Muel locked up for 7 years at such a discount relative to his worth to the team.  Ya he probably will never get the points which usually gets guys paid.  But man oh man we're lucky to have this guy locked up.
