Maybe individually at some point in the season, but IMHO not all 3 to start the season. That's just too much new and unproven rookie learning curve to the start the season with.

Never mind. Just saw your reply.

I agree.  I think there’s a reasonable shot all 3 are ready to roll starting in 2024.  Maybe not the worst idea to have one of the three make the team if they deserve it this year?  Otherwise your point about dealing with 3 rookie learning curves next year holds true.

Need to be?  No, but when you are signing an 8 year $80M contract, it would be nice, wouldn’t it?

Hes been playing here for years.  Pesonally I don't need him to be in town to give a presser after signing.

If they've come to an agreement you sign the damn thing.  I know it won't happen but I don't need some Chris Drury BS.

    Hellebuyck is a pipe dream.

    3) it flies totally in the face of everything KA has been doing.

Yet.  The Buffalo Sabres were a long way from contention when he took over.  They just missed the playoffs by a point.  KA is not going to mortgage the future but I would hope he’s considering some win now options much more than he ever would have in the past.  Didn’t make sense then.  It does now.

If need be add Middelstadt to the mix.

Mitts is already a great middle six utility player who is coming off a good year.  We’ve spent a long time developing him and I think we’re finally seeing some dividends.  With Quinn out until Atleast the new year he is not at all a throw in to be ‘added to the mix.’  He has good value and excellent chemistry with some of our big boys (especially Dahlin) and I hope he stays and extended for a reasonable price.

Boston’s 2nd pair RD for the last few seasons.

He’s a real Top 4 guy. This isn’t a stretch of signing a 6th spot dude and hoping for the best.

His average TOI was a shade under 18 min last year and 16:03 the year before so not sure it’s top 4 minutes he was getting.

    And he’s physical.

It’s the PK numbers that really catch my eye.

Its an area  we badly needed to target and it looks like we have here.

    This does sounds good.

I think this hurts more than people realize.

The reason this team isn't going big game shopping is because it is counting on internal improvement.

Quinn is second only to Power in terms of being able to provide that.

it also means we may not get help from an Olofsson return because he is the most likely person to fill the hole, and he is probably not going to fix his flaws if he gets those minutes.

If we do trade Vic, Kulich and/or Savoie are probably not going to be able provide even what Quinn providedlast year.

    It's a blow.

I think everyone realizes how much this sucks

The utopia of endless depth and seamless prospect promotion is as unattainable as ever. We are not guaranteed tomorrow or next season, so now that we have come this far we need to do everything we have to make this year count

Agreed.  As bad as this is, Devon Levi would be absolutely devastating news.  Need to keep building good depth.

I think I watched 4 total of the WHL Final. I only made it to one in person in Seattle.

In the game I attended in person, Savoie's skill was obvious, but Benson was better. Seattle just negated everything they did except for a pretty 4-on-4 goal when the game was already well in hand.

Obviously Sabres development team feels last years playoff wasn’t their peak and the talent projection is there once they get him into the org and under buffalos direction.

I didn't call the trade the "reason" they became great, but it absolutely was the inflection point - "all systems go, we are ready, go get Allen his Alpha Target"

Going back to my original point, the Sabres need that exact thing - they don't need to trade for a "reason" to become great - they are just about there. They need the move that signals they are all in, and turns their most important potential weakness into a strength.

And that's without getting into the nuance that you cannot assert Bills definitely would have taken Jefferson had they kept that pick, and Jefferson (who ran limited route tree his rookie year) would have been better for Allen at that particular juncture than a vet WR who went on to shatter all franchise WR records that season and can run every route in the playbook, but i digress

    Abso-friggen-lutly

Maybe I’m drinking the cool-aide too hard but the Sabres looked very good for long stretches last year with one of the youngest teams in the league.  The kids who we needed to see develop and become leaders did that before our very eyes.  It feels like a billseque step may be coming if they can add that big piece or two to a young group littered with talent.  Now is the time.
