I think he plays, but not game 1. He’ll probably arrive in Rochester today or tomorrow. The team will bus to Hershey tomorrow, so that’s a quick turnaround. Doubt they hastily throw him in like that. But by game 2 or 3, I think it should happen, especially if they’re down.

Agreed.  He just tore up the whl playoffs, high first round draft pick.  Imo it’s in Savoie, Amerks and Sabres best interests to have him play

The Leafs and Oilers are the reason I harp on defense and goaltending. Scoring 300 goals is fun, but to win on the playoffs you need to kill penalties, clear the zone quickly, grind and get key saves from the goalies.

The leafs scored 2 goals or less in something like 7 straight playoff games.  It was their scoring that let them down when the checking got tight.

I’m pretty sure this tournament isn’t a development showcase for the sabres. The coach will play who he feels can get them wins. I’d love to see Levy play but the handwringing over Levys icetime is 🤷🏻‍♂️.

Agreed.  But if Levi doesn’t give them the best shot at winning Adam’s better be serious about upgrading our goaltending.  If he gives Canada less of a shot to win then the Montreal Canadiens 1a/1b who just came off a season giving up 3.42 GAA then that’s not good of we’re relying on him for next year.

It’s a May tourney so whatever.  But I think it’s significant if Levi loses the job to Montembeault come elimination games.  I’ve been banging hard on the drums how this team better not punt a season because they don’t address goaltending again.  I have all the hope in the world for Levi down the road but I’m still concerned we’re relying too much on a 21 year old kid in 23/24.

Just bought season tickets to split with a friend for the first time in my life, something I dreamed about when I was 10 years old.

    What am I in for?

Also just bought this year and also been dreaming of this since I was 10.  We will have to meet up and grab a beer some intermission.

KA and whoever pushed for Levi at the time of the trade must be over the moon. They knew he was good and projected that he would be an NHL goalie.

Right?!  Trade goes down and my initial reaction is all we got is a late first and some guy drafted in the 7th round very recently?  All that suffering during the horrendous 2013-14 season and all we have to show for it was a few years of watching a good (but not superstar) player and a late first and 7th rounder?  Add Kulich slipping in the first as the other piece and looking like it’s going to set up a couple of possible cornerstones for several years.  Early returns are WAY above expectation compared to my initial reaction.  Another note that Jack trade is also looking pretty good as Tuch looks like a top line player for years to come considering his age and love for the city.

It's definitely a possibility that he does just go with the goaltending he has.  But it just makes so much sense to bring in a Varlamov and it sets the Sabres up with an amped up version of the '06 Canes goaltending.

And to those that say the plan for the future is Levi and UPL, believe you're right that was the plan.  Not sure, the way the season played out that it necessarily still is the plan.  It could be, and having Varlomov doesn't change that if it is (provided UPL clears waivers) but getting Varlamov could restore the even earlier plan of Ullmark and UPL just with different goalies in the Ullmark and UPL roles.

Feels like I’ve just been hitting the like and agree buttons for your post lately but this is exactly the way I see it as well.  Varlamov would be a perfect 1A 1B guy too pair with Levi.

This team is ready to fly.  Just need the goaltending.  I love Levi but man he’s young.  This would be a perfect fit being a capable vet that can hopefully guide Levi and play 30+ games.

As have said elsewhere, would like to see a good vet on a 2 year (or 3 year if necessary) deal and have an open competition between the 4.

Plan on trading UPL or Comrie and one of the other 3 ends up in Ra-cha-cha. But the best 2 of the 4 get kept and stay in Buffalo.

Expect they would've liked to have Levi in Ra-cha-cha to start the next year. But if he keeps doing in the NHL what he's done everywhere else, can't see the point of having him in Ra-cha-cha.

And, back to this season, would play him every remaining game as long as they are still alive in the playoff chase. The players on the team deserve tha.t much

    This.

Not sure if mods can transfer over discussion from the 'Devon Levi signs' thread to here?  That disccussion is certainly more relavent in this thread.

    Another thing to consider…

What decent veteran goalie signs a 1 or 2 yr deal?

And what decent veteran comes knowing that the chosen one has already been anointed?  It would be a goalie already relegated to life as a backup.

Or, and again I haven't looked into specific names yet, is there someone out there with a big cap hit that may be playing a 1a 1b situation with good experience?  I think our cap should be fine for the next couple of years until more of these big raises to the kids continue to kick in.  Could we trade for someone we're describing who may be better option?  If the goalie has a decent cap hit we may be able to get for cheap.  Thinking like what they tried to do with Matt Murray.

I realize this is not a popular opinion, but I bring both back and have a training camp fight to see who makes the team.

UPL showed flashes this year (yes, I know both good and bad) and he still can get better. Comrie had some good games, and a lot of his 'bad' games came when he returned from an injury and there is a chance he was playing through something for most of the year.  If, IF you can find someone who is clearly better than both who is OK with possibly being a #2 guy and is on only a couple year deal then do it, but that goldilocks situation might be hard to find.

Fair points and I agree with you on UPL.  I think based on age he can still get better and would love to find him a bunch of games in Roch if Levi ends up winning the job in Buff.

I know the Sabres rolled two young guys in Miller and Biron in our last hay day but I would prefer for our rookie to have someone more experienced to interact with every day and in practises.  If Sabres feel Levi has a reasonable chance to be the NHL starter next year then they should be making moves to support that.  Imo that means bringing in a decent vet backup and run those two.

UPL and Comrie both under contract for next season, no?

I realize either or both could be sent to Roc next season, but if I were betting on it I’d put my money on a 3 headed monster of Levi, UPL, and Comrie with one getting 40 or so games and the other two splitting the rest.

If Adam’s is all in on Levi, and he’s purposely left an opportunity open for him to be buffalos starter sooner than later, I think the Sabres might be better served to bring in a capable vet.  Sabres either develop Levi in Roch or Buff.  If he’s good enough to learn on the job from Day 1 next season then I think I would rather a vet Levi can lean on.

Didn’t Levi say something after signing about how excited he was to get to work with Anderson because of all his experience?  I haven’t looked at goalie names who may be available but someone with a little more left in the tank than Anderson but has lots of experience and can play 30 games would be ideal imo.

He's the starter going forward buffalo just needs to get a good back up vet for him next year.

Agreed.  But what to do with Comrie and UPL?  I’m fine sending Comrie down and if he gets claimed he gets claimed but does UPL have any eligibility left to be sent down?

  12. We put our down payment on season tickets for next year and are looking to buy a small ‘cheap’ condo either walking distance to keybank centre or more likely somewhere a bit further but near the metro rail line.

As a Canadian I would definitely like the experience of an agent who knows the Buffalo market and help guide us through the process.  I could google to see who’s out there but prefer a recommendation based on someone they have experience with.

    Cheers!

Johnson is an exceptional skater. He uses his skating, positioning and smarts to play a smart defensive game and move the puck. He can hold his own in the offensive zone but is not an offensive dynamo. He is not a banger. He is just a solid all around defencemen who isn’t flashy, won’t stand out but will have a long, solid career as a number 4 to 6. He will be a good signing and should play with Dahlin, Muel and Power for a long time.

    Sounds like a Mark Pysyk?

Also a first year STH/"Member", half season, driving in from ROC.  It has been great!  Definitely a luxury item and first thing to go if things get tight, but it has turned into quality time on the regular with family and friends.  The team is entertaining and likeable.  There's small perks like this Adams thing (not making the drive for that), discounts on merch, and general feeling of being invested with the entire organization.  Maybe that's a little cheesy but so be it.  Also, playoff tickets when the time comes are guaranteed. And after following this team for about 30 years (broke for the first ~10, too busy raising kids for ~10, and ***** team for ~10) I'm not missing it when they return to cup contender.

The downsides - yeah it's expensive.  And is the invasions from visiting teams fans is extremely annoying. It's one thing to have a handful of out-of-town jerseys.  It's another to have to compete against the opposing team's cheer.  For that reason I strongly encourage everyone to buy-in and take our arena back.  The game is awesome in person. The sounds, the better view of the ice, the comradery and energy celebrating goals and wins with 1000s of like minded fans.  Find a friend or family member you want to hang with and make memories together and invest in this team and community we love!  Do not regret it.  Already looking forward to 23-24 season.

I’m with you brother.  Well said.

  15. All this talk of season ticket holders and it finally happened.  My wife gave the ok and we put down a deposit on 4 tix in the 300s.  Will likely end up giving away and selling some but very excited for seasons.  Hope it’s not a huge waste of money and they really are turning the corner lol.
