But what happens to Samson?  Does he ride the tandem bike alone now?

(Please, there is no need for the meme with the guy holding hands with his girlfriend and looking backward at another gal.)

  2. I was at this one.. from my view, Nylander was the best player on the ice tonight. He and Berglund had some chemistry. Something to watch over the next few games. Maybe he could end up on the wing of a Swedish vet.

Hell, that line from tonight could be our third line. Thompson tried to dangle a few times when he shouldn’t have. But he looked good with them too.

I don't think I like that explanation. I think that should have been a live fumble.

It was a live fumble. But then he was still touching the loose ball while out of bounds. Which automatically makes the ball out of bounds. Sad face.

Just get here for the next SS meetup for some proper wings and I'l buy you the first of whatever you drink.

Fine, but I’m ordering boneless wings with a side of ranch, just to rile you ?

In all seriousness, I’ll make it to a meet up at some point to see you crazy folks. As it currently stands, Nov. 3 Sabres/Nov. 4 Bills is my only scheduled trip for games. But that can always change.

    I think we're done here.

But if I ever dirty my shoes with Columbus dust again, I surely will look you up!  (Same goes for you next time you come here.  And you know you will.)

The Wendy’s thing was a joke.. I guess we’re both swinging and missing.

It's ok; I eat at RubyTGIAppleDenny's once in a while, too.  (Usually when I'm traveling through or in Ohio.)

Have your fun, have your fun. Next time you find yourself traveling through, give me a shout ? I'll show you Wendy's corporate headquarters AND hook you up with a local brew ?

Does Columbus have any restaurants with menus that aren't laminated with photos of the food in them?  (Actually, this might go for the whole state.)

Anyway.  I don't want the Sabres to pay what it would take to get Panarin, unless Columbus only wants picks or something AND a deal to retain him is worked out in advance.

I know you’re just having fun, and there are PLENTY of places in rural Ohio that deserve mocking...

But Columbus torches anything in WNY when it comes to food/beer/nightlife scene. I was born and raised in Rochester. Lived in Buffalo all through school. I was convinced I should never leave. Was ready to throw down the roots, start my family there, live and die. But my wife’s career brought us down to Columbus. And holy was I wrong about wanting to stay put. Now I couldn’t imagine ever going back there. And the local food here is a big part of it.

I love Buffalo. It’s an incredible hockey market. But i don’t think that’s what Panarin is looking for. I think he’s a bit of a diva looking for the superficial stuff. And you’re wasting your time mentioning Buffalo if Columbus isn’t good enough for him ?

I'm not sure about international, but when we sold our house this spring, the buyer was in Houston.  They did their part of closing from Houston, we did ours in Ft Worth, and it all happened within a day of each other, including the buyer's funding.  More and more, this stuff can be done remotely and virtually.

The owners are in Germany.  It should not make a differance with technology these days.  One does not even need a fax machine.  There is only one transaction ... we are buying and they are selling, so there is no complication with one deal closing / not closing impacting this transaction.

Very cool! I figured as such, based on my one home buying experience. We purchased from a relative in Rochester without them ever setting foot in Ohio during the process. Just wasn’t sure if anything would increase in complexity given the international scenario.

There is no 'guest room' per se.  It is a two bedroom / two bathroom home, but that works to our advantage, as it seriously limits the people that would be interested in it.

I am sure that something could be arranged if someone cared to honour us with a visit.

I already mentioned that I work with accountants in my day job... I’d be quite comfortable sleeping in your home office ?

Are the homeowners back in Germany currently? If all goes well, could that slow down closing? I have no idea if it would add another wrinkle, or just be business as usual.

And then they play Pittsburgh on Monday afternoon. 12:30 game. Break out the second monitor at work ?

  11. Enjoy the trip @josie and @darksabre

My in-laws are on a 3 month cross country trip right now. They are in between houses while their new one is built. Currently they are blowing up my Snapchat with hiking photos from the Arches in Utah. They’ll hit Bryce and Zion before heading down to Arizona. Bryce is my favorite park that I’ve ever visited, and some of those big hikes in Zion are on my bucket list.

Needless to say, I’m jealous of them and of you guys ? My wife and I will be joining them in Sedona next month. Looking forward to that vacation, at least! We’re going to fly out of Vegas and hit the Grand Canyon and Hoover dam on our drive up. Two places my wife has never seen. And two places I’m eager to see again.

Ps: I’m curious all the places you’re visiting. If this thread closes, update us in the Awesome thread about your itinerary!

So at OU we have 3 qualifying exams that you need to pass at a PhD level to continue in the program - I had "passed" (it's really an official "fail") my Quantum qualifier at a master's level in January on my "free attempt." I took my first "official" attempts at Quantum and Classical/Stat Mech last week and passed them both at a PhD level, which just leaves Electricity&Magnetism, two attempts if I need them - as many students are faced with second/final attempts of multiple exams at the same time, I am tremendously glad to not have to be in that stressful situation.

This is something that was impossible to imagine this time last year. I really didn't believe in myself, deep down inside. I spent hundreds of hours this summer preparing to make it happen and it's probably the most noteworthy thing I've ever accomplished in my life, so I feel preeeeeeeeeeeeetty damn good. I've never hit something so impossible at one point, and worked so hard to achieve something. Especially when I wasn't sure if my large intestine was going to let me stick around just two months into the whole thing.

I don't mean to sound braggy or anything, I'm just jazzed up because this is the best thing academically/professionally to ever happen to me

Congrats! For the record, you don’t sound braggy. And even if you did, this is something worth bragging about. My wife is <2 months out from her PhD candidacy, so I can truly appreciate the insane amount of preparation that goes into this sort of thing.

My wife hardly breaks to speak to me, let alone strangers on the internet ? So thanks for still contributing during those long, tedious study hours lol

I saw that and I couldn't figure out why that wasn't a personal foul.  Freakin' ridiculous.

I think because he was engaged with a Bills blocker. There were actually some folks on twitter opining that is should have been a no-call.

I also wish they’d lessen the “automatic first down” calls. Like a defensive hold on 3rd and 27 that’s six yards down the field should not be a first down. Make it a ten yard penalty or a spot foul and replay the down. The offense gets way too many advantages in these cases.

I agree here.. But since the rule exists, the fact that teams don't take advantage is a constant source of frustration for me. 3rd and 27, how often do you see a team run it up the gut for half a yard, then punt? If I'm an OC, I'm taking advantage of the stupid rules all day. I'd have four WRs run ridiculous option routes, get a defender to grab, have the QB throw it away. Worst case scenario, you get sacked and punt from 7 yards deeper. No intention of actually completing a pass. It's a throwaway play just like the run, but you try to goat the defense into gifting you a first down.

Throughout the year, I bet you could pick up a handful of first downs by taking advantage of that rule. But no one seems to try it. I know I'm not smarter than NFL head coaches. So maybe there's a reason. But I don't see it.
