Hasn’t the Eichel/Reinhart combo performed poorly to date?

I thought they looked great the first time they played together. More recently, they didn’t reignite that chemistry.

I wouldn’t be opposed to putting Samson and Casey together. I just don’t want to attach an anchor to Jack’s right. So Okposo would need to rebound. Or we would have to give a young kid one hell of an opportunity to play with Jack!

  2. Sheary - Eichel - Reinhart

    E-Rod - Mittelstadt - Thompson

    Sobotka - Burglund - Okposo

    Baptiste - Girgensons - Pominville

That’s how I’d draw up the lines as it currently stands. High power first line. Then give the young Mittelstadt line some sheltered, offensive minutes. Create a more veteran line with the new Blues and Okposo. Then throw someone fast on the 4th line and hope they can skate circles around Pominville while maybe putting a puck or two on net.

Also, love the lineup template idea. Would be an awesome add-on. Thanks for pursuing that, SDS!

  3. Is he the one who was going to sign in Dallas a few years ago but then stabbed them in the back last second?

Yeah, he verbally agreed to a deal with Dallas but then had second thoughts, reneged on that plan, and re-signed with LA. Now he’s back to Dallas for real

  4. I don’t think the “these hands are for scoring goals, not punching fourth rounders” reaction from Casey is embarrassing. In fact, I love it. How often do you see Crosby, McDavid, Eichel, Patty Kane, etc fight? They make their marks between the whistles, and others take care of the dirty business.

An embarrassing take from Hammy, if anything.

  5. I personally think it's a will thing. Maybe he was all about being a a professional hockey player before Cal O'Reilly gave him hell, but maybe it soured him on the game and the team and he's just not enjoying it anymore. Add to that the natural struggles that come with growing pains and I can see why he just gave up. Everything I read about the guy makes it seem like an effort issue. Ever work somewhere you hated? Did you do your best work there?

Interesting thought just occurred to me. Moving ROR could benefit Nylander mentally. Obviously it should have zero sway on Botterill and his attempts to better the team. But if ROR is traded, you’d have to think it would help Nylander. If I was constantly badgered by some a-hole, I wouldn’t wanna go hang out with his brother for the rest of my playing days.

  6. As long as the connections at the wall/floor are sound, it should be pretty easy.  I've done it in the past.  If you run into trouble, you're probably looking at a couple hundred for a plumber to do it.

I have a buddy with some plumbing experience, so I'm hoping it'll only cost 72oz of beer and a pizza if I run into any trouble :P

  7. Probably pulling the trigger on some new granite counter tops this week. Might float some measurements past another place or two for additional quotes. But we have a place and a slab picked out.

They'll mount the new sink for free, but don't do the plumbing. So I will be doing that myself. We'll be going from two drains (one normal, one disposal) to a single, centered drain. I've never done plumbing before, but still shouldn't be too hard. Famous last words, I know...

  8. I think they were being hyperbolic, but I agree with what you say here. Vanek gets shoveled into the JAG group with the Staffords and the Gaustads of his era, but he was by far the best of that group for the longest time. Dahlin will almost certainly not surpass him in one season.

Vanek is #7 all time according to Bleacher Report!

  9. A college professor once played a YouTube clip in a class of mine. Man, you should have been there to see his reaction to the video that he clearly had never seen before. In it, a woman referred to her “sausage wallet.” And he just about died laughing at the fact that the term “sausage wallet” was just dropped in front of his 200 person lecture hall.

  10. I'll be on the road, driving home to Rochester for the weekend. With any luck, I'll leave Columbus by 5:30. That would put me in Buffalo at 10:00pm. Since the draft isn't in Vegas, I'm assuming the Sabres will have picked by then :P

  11. We got a new 65" tv for the office. Conveniently, it was delivered just in time for March Madness. It has since proven handy for movie trailers, the US Open, the World Cup.... Oh, and the occasional work meeting :P

I think I am rooting for England. I admittedly don't follow soccer enough at any level. But my brother-in-law is a big Tottenham fan, so I watch a handful of their games. And England's roster is chock-full of Spurs. So, root for the guys you know, I suppose. Iceland is a neat story too.

  12. It still feels like they were never prepared to actually use those three consecutive picks and just winged it.

Seems likely. It was so weird.

They fired Chiarelli right before that draft. But Sweeny was their AGM for years beforehand, so it wasn't some brand new guy who didn't know the scouts and had just a few weeks to prepare. They really did flub that.

  13. Taylor Hall just won the Hart and there isn't a single Edmonton fan that isn't livid with Chiarelli.

Barzal winning the Calder must also sting the Oilers fans. NY took him with the pick they got from Edmonton in exchange for... Griffin Reinhart. Ouch.

  14. <p>

This guy apparently isn't afraid, from his comment:

    Ha, great find!

I don’t want any Sabre catching those iron fists. Kane will always hold a special place in my heart for his three fight game against Florida. I was there and he whooped Petrovic each time. I’m generally on the fence about fighting in hockey. Most of the time it’s useless “lift the team” or needless “you checked my guy so I’m gonna fight you” nonsense. But man, can it ever rile up a crowd. Sabres lost that game 7-4. Yet it’s one of my favorite games despite the blowout.

  15. Any interest in Oliver Bjorkstrand? Columbus might want to save some cash this offeseason so they can sign some guys next. Idk what he would take to get but this kid is on the verge of breaking out.

I love Bjorkstrand. He definitely feels like a guy on the verge of a breakout. I honestly expected it last year in Columbus. Not that 40 points is bad, but his playmaking skills scream 20 goal - 40 assist guy to me.

I don't see the Jackets moving him though. I'd expect a bridge deal like Josh Anderson got last year. Probably a little more money. But on a 2 or 3 year deal, he won't keep them from doing what they need to do next offseason.
