  1. OK, so Hickey is a defenseman who just graduated (let's hope!) from BU after playing what looks like 4 years in a full-time role, presumably top-3 D or higher, for a very good college program (I found it kinda interesting that he's from Edmonton but decided to play NCAA hockey, btw). He is 6'2", 201 and turned 22 two months ago. He was named team captain for his senior year and made honorable mention all-conference in a very good conference.

This is a year old and is Flames official site propaganda, but still somewhat worthwhile IMHO: https://www.nhl.com/flames/news/flames-top-prospects---brandon-hickey/c-289877112

And here's Dobberhockey (a good fantasy hockey site) on Hickey: https://dobberprospects.com/brandon-hickey-2-2

He looks like another young guy who can skate and has potentially a good 2-way game who is here to fight for a spot in the D rotation.

If they sign him, even if he later washes out, that's as much as you could reasonably ask for in return for Fasching at this point.

OTOH, if Fasching turns into another Taylor Pyatt, GoDD may re-enlist under a fake name.

Scandella comes to mind more then Brodie does when reading those reports. And that’s okay- those Calgary writers probably should have pumped the brakes on Brodie comparisons haha.

If Hickey turns into a nice #4 or #5 defender, I’m estacic about the return. I used to really like Fasching. Hell, my first post on this forum might have been about Hudson when I used to follow his college career. And his high-five line down the bench after his first goal is still one of my favorite Sabres pictures.

But we have a log jam of underwhelming RW that need to prove it this year. And he has inspired the least confidence that he will prove it.

  2. I’ll take ROR. He’s valauble in all three facets. While I’m left wishing for more ES scoring, his defensive contributions are hard to overlook.

He’s just as productive on the PP as Sam.

He’s our #1 forward on the PK. Sam played all of 56 seconds short handed last year. And ROR doesn’t go to the box ever. He’s always available for the PK.

ROR won more faceoffs than the entire rest of our team combined. Let that sad yet impressive stat sink in.

Hate to say it, but Jack has missed a lot of time. Fingers crossed that two fluke injuries have used up a career’s worth of bad luck and he’s good from here on out. But if my #1 C goes down, I want a #2 C that I’m confident in. That’s ROR.

Oh forgot to mention shootouts- both Sam and ROR suck :P

  3. That sounds fantastic. I don't do any hunting or have easy access to venison, but I imagine it would work well on any type of meat, whether it be beef, pork, chicken, or even lamb. Maybe if I hit the grocery store up and buy the ingredients and print your post for directions I can get the girlfriend to make it. She does 99% of the cooking in our house in exchange for me doing 99% of the dishes and the laundry.

More than a fair trade in my eyes since she's an amazing cook and I tend to use the smoke alarm as an oven timer because I can't multi-task for ###### in the kitchen so either something gets forgotten about and burns or nothing finishes at the same time so parts of the meal are cold by the time everything else gets completed. I'm sure I could take a class and learn but I'd rather just do the dishes.

Ha, we have the exact opposite arrangement. I do 99% of the cooking, and my wife does 99% of the dishes. We probably split the laundry 50/50. Meanwhile, the dog gets off scot free :P

Me cooking is more a product of our schedules. I get off work earlier and have a way shorter commute, so I can have dinner ready when she’s home. And I’ve gotten pretty good at cooking because of it! I’m probably going to try a mole sauce since we’ve’s sounds so good

  4. who's maniscalo?

was hanifin the same draft year as eichel?

also, and this is more than a mere throwaway comment, i just realized that eichel is an only child. i'm putting that one firmly in my back pocket for now, and hoping that we stop hearing about how the face of the franchise doesn't always play well with others.

I think Jack has an older sister named Jessie. Cannot comment on whether or not they get along :P

  5. I've learned that people suck everywhere, but the addiction to pills (opiates) especially is out of hand

You can thank CMS/govt/medicaid for that.

Ultimatley the govt forced docs to hand them out like candy, and now they can't backtrack enough.

As for alcohol, all the time I travel, one question I almost always get asked is if I got hammered in said country I'm traveling to. I'm not a big drinker and when I tie on one, it's usually somewhere cool or for a very special occasion, when I travel I want to see and do things, not come home and not remember where I was.

Funny, we had some friends that were baffled we didn’t go to an all-inclusive resort for our honeymoon. They couldn’t understand how we could want anything other than a beach chair to day drink from.

We went zip lining over a coastal fruit farm, scuba diving with sea turtles, hiking up and down mountains and volcanos, snorkeling over a coral reef...

I had a beer here or there. And a mai tai of course. But we were very much adventurous. My wife isn’t a big drinker. I love a good couple beers at a brewery with an appetizer maybe. But we spent our time and money on food and adventures in Hawaii. And it was awesom!

All one year ago too.. tomorrow is my first anniversary :)

  6. They constantly talk of him around here as the only untouchable guy on the team. All I know is that at some point, he needs to be on the same team as his long-lost swedish twin brother from another mother. Seriously, what would you put on the name plate of those two jerseys?

Little flags next to “Aho” would be awesome.

  7. If only they had a 30g winger... that they have not exposed in the expansion draft like idiots.

Maybe I am misremembering. But wasn’t their rationale that they didn’t want to lose Petrovic? A guy whose career highlight is getting whooped three times in one game by Evander. And now Florida is rumored to be shopping him? He was a healthy scratch at times last year too, I believe.

    Oof

  8. Little Bear caught a chipmunk in the berry garden and brought it inside. I think it was a little too much for her to handle so she let it go....inside. Just caught the little bugger and took him back outside.

My cat used to enjoy the “catch outside, release inside” game. We had floor radiators that the mice/chipmunks would get under to evade us. The floor was linoleum, there was a sliding glass door that we would open up, and we’d each grab a broom.

This is a hockey forum, so you can probably guess where this is going... My dad would nudge the mouse out from underneath, slide it to me, and I would onetime it right out the door! The mouse would scurry away, probably dazed but generally unharmed. And I would obviously celly.

  9. We spent the weekend in NYC with my sister-in-law and her BF. Mostly in Brooklyn, but we also ventured into Staten Island, Manhattan, and the Bronx for a Yankees game.

I ate more bagels than I care to admit. Also consumed pizza, family-style Italian, Chinese, ice cream, coffee... Basically the entire trip was eating. And that’s all we wanted out of it, so mission accomplished!

  10. My stepmom finally got an entry level job in the field she's being trying to break into since she finished her degree a few years ago. The hours suck, but it's a foot in the door and I hope she enjoys the work.

Also, I now have a hammock for my balcony. I'm pretty sure we could de-escalate things with North Korea if someone just sent Kim Jong Un one of those things.

You know, I have no idea why we don’t all have hammocks. My buddy has one in his bedroom. It serves as his spare bed when friends stay the night. But he’ll sleep in it himself many nights instead of his bed. And I see why- it is awesome!

And good news about the job ???????? Even if the hours suck for awhile, hopefully it’ll be a stepping stone to something even better down the line. Experience is experience!

I’m un-fantastic news, but news you personally will appreciate... my wife’s lab just lost two techs. One quit and one retired (deservedly so from the stories I hear). Also, a grant fell through and they didn’t have funding to take a first-year student this year. So things have been pretty busy and will only stay that way. Oh well, off to NYC this weekend, so I’ll stop thinking about my work or hers :)
