Are The Sabres A Dark Horse Contender for Jakob Chychrun?
Curt replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
For those of us with short memories: Was Setoguchi considered a top prospect at that time? I believe that Coyle was, right? This is an open question for anyone to answer. EDIT: after review, it seems that Setoguchi was a 24 yr old coming off of 3 seasons where he scored 20-30 goals. -

He is not a defensive defenseman, but he is very good. This is what concerns me most as well. -

I always thought that he wasn’t anything above average defensively. He is a big beastly physical specimen, so maybe that makes people think he is a good defender? He has rarely been a first choice penalty killer. He does usually play the PK, but generally on the 2nd unit. He is better on offense than defense. Maybe this is an unfair comparison but I think he is like a better Risto. -

You are suggesting that the Sabres retain salary on Chychrun, correct? Chychrun has this season and 2 others remaining on his contract. When NHL teams retain salary on a contract, they must do so for each season remaining on the contract. There is no option to retain salary for just one season of a 3 year contract. The scenario that you are suggesting is not possible. -
This could actually be an example of the Sabres doing right by a player. A positive story in the eyes of other players across the league. Maybe Sheahan realized that he was unlikely to get more NHL time going forward, and wants to maximize his earnings in the last 3-4 years of his pro hockey career. Maybe his agent is telling him that there is a $500-600k contract for him in the Swiss League. I don’t know. We’ll probably hear more on this in the near future.

I kind of doubt it, because Adams has shown pretty much zero inclination to take on dead money unless it’s just for one season to reach the cap floor. I think it’s highly unlikely that the the Sabres would take on dead money for 3 seasons. I think it’s more likely that they actually trade for Chychrun. -
Comtois is a winger. So is Meier.

Advanced Stats Say Goaltending the Issue, Not Defense

Yeah, Sabres are creating offense and scoring goals. -

I get the impression that Tim Murray didn’t make it easy to speak up and voice your opinion if you didn’t agree with him. -

It would make for one heck of a top-4. All left handed though. Not sure if that matters. What was Arizona’s reported ask? -
When one team is grossly more talented than the other, it requires certain tactics. I don’t really agree though. I don’t think that the US played unattractive football against England.
-
I mean, if you don’t like it, you don’t like it. Everyone has their own tastes. I can’t watch a baseball game for more than 10 mins. It’s incredibly dull, to me. Im sure there are people who feel that same way about hockey. But these World Cup games have actually been quite good.
-
Really impressive game from the USA! Getting a 0-0 draw with England. I’ve never seen a US men’s soccer team look so organized and confident in possession against top competition. If they beat Iran on Tuesday, they will advance to the knockout stage.

You are misunderstanding my post. I probably worded it poorly. That’s my fault. It was in response to a post that referenced to Olofsson as a 30 goal scorer. I took issue with referring to someone who has never scored 30 goals, as a 30 goal scorer. @jad1 This applies for you as well.

I don’t understand what you are trying to say here.

GDT: Saint Bluis at Buffalo, 11/23/22, 7pm, MSG, WGR.

Good stuff here. -
I’d take the over.
-
I can understand why you might project, predict, believe that Olofsson will score 30. Once he’s done it, he’ll be it.
-
If someone’s highest season total is 20 goals, can they still be referred to as a 30 goal scorer?
-
I’d be hesitant to trade Jokiharju in a deal like that. He is still only 23 and I think there is potential there to be a #4 quality guy. This deal would still leave Bryson as the #6.
-
This Olofsson discussion is an offshoot, but I agree with you. If Sabres are out of it, could see him moved to a playoff team at the deadline or part of a trade for a defenseman in the offseason.

Movies / TV Shows - I Have Watched / Plan To Watch
Curt replied to Sabres Fan in NS's topic in The Aud Club
I watched Draft Day. It was kinda fun if you suspend reality the idea that the actual trades didn’t make much sense. I watched Many Saints of Newark. I thought it would be better. I watched The Inventor, the Elizabeth Holmes documentary. It was interesting and good. -
Not really trying to interpret his body language, I’ve no skill/education for that, but he was looking at Cozens, then bobbled the puck.
-
Yeah, you are right. I think he was considering passing it, then he mishandled it once, so he opted for the shot instead.
-
Both of Quinn’s goals least night were so awesome. He is just so calm with the puck. On the 1st he pulled up off the rush and just waited for the D to drift into the perfect position to act as a screen then ripped it past the goalie. Then on this 2nd one he just coasted in, waited for Binnington to make the first move ( drop down and close his 5 hole) then pulled a beautiful deek around him and put the puck in the net. Magic
