My point was that it’s silly of PA to cherry pick stats, like 2 goals in his last 11, which honestly isn’t even alarming. 8 in 21 is just as true. Players never perform at a nice steady, even point production. It fluctuates based on dozens of factors.quality of competition, linemates, injuries, coaching tactics........ Jack, Sam and Jeff (and their 29 combined goals, out of teams’ 59 total goals, that’s half folks!) are not the reason that the team isn’t winning! It’s because Mitts, Sheary, Larsson, Okposo, Girgensons, Sobotka, Rodrigues, Vesey have a combined 11 goals. 8 players, 137 total games played, 11 goals. Jack, Jeff and Sam are the only 3 guys on this team who are scoring and anyone who says the team is losing because they aren’t doing enough needs to take a long hard look at the rest of the forwards.

It’s a team. Just because Jack is good doesn’t mean that he has to make up the difference for the bad players, and if he can’t then he isn’t doing enough. That’s not how teams work. All the teams in the league have a few very good players. The good teams have good players farther down the lineup too.

I hear you, and I won’t argue that the team needs to be tougher/scrappier/more determined. But slightly over the hill guys have a bad habit of becoming completely useless players before you even know it. Truth is, they need more good players. The forwards are awful right now, and even when fully healthy, were not good enough.

You can add players who “know how to win”, good players, and also keep Reinhart. That’s worth a shot I guess. Although I’m generally opposed to signing over the hill UFA’s. If you are worried that Reinhart won’t be worth his contract, then you should be even more worried about older, big name veteran players being worth their UFA contracts, because they almost never are.

Not wanting Gaudreau is just silly. You can’t simply say “no thanks” to a talent like that. Every single team in the league would want to and benefit from adding him. The only questions are what would it take to acquire him, and it that worth it?

They were not among the best teams in the league, won one playoff round, and were swept in the 2nd round. Im sure it was exciting at the time, but it doesn’t look like a near cup win from here.

Horvat isn’t going to be a great comparable, to me. He signed his deal coming of seasons of 40 and 52 points. Reinhart is going to be comping off seasons of 65 and maybe 70 points. Huge difference there. And I know, different position too.
