I think they will have a season. QMJHL is already a week into their season.
-
I think this is key. It not who was the best player this past season. It’s who will be the best NHL player 2, 3, 4, 5 years from now. You need to have the drive to improve as much as possible, yes, but I think it goes beyond even that. Some players have the physical ability to improve more than others. There are guys who are near maxed out in terms of adding strength/muscle, and there are guys, like Quinn, who seem like they have a lot of potential growth left physically. Maybe both guys have a equal drive to improve, but one of them will be able to make a lot more progress than the other. And this one thing I think I’m seeing a lot with Adams is putting a fair amount of stock in such projection.

This is a reasonable takeaway, which could have legs. And I agree that for a strategy like that work, they really really need to evaluate players well. If you are going to start making big bets on upside, you better bet on the right guys, or things could blow up in your face pretty quick.

I’m not disagreeing with your beliefs about trading up. They could use analytics to evaluate players but not to determine whether or not to trade up. That’s entirely possible. With that being said, based on this draft, I have doubts that analytics are at the forefront of these selections.
-
In a much larger, more literal sense, it doesn’t. 😉
-
I’m thinking there must be a deal. Doesn’t make any sense for a player so cheap. I predict that everyone is freaking out over nothing.
-
Ok, sure, it’s based on statistical likelihood’s, but it has nothing to do with evaluating hockey players. They could have used analytics to determine that JJP is a great prospect, then decided to trade up for him. They still used analytics, even if trading up is statistically ill advised.
-
Using analytics to evaluate hockey players has nothing to do with whether it’s statistically “worth it” to trade up in a draft. One is part of a player evaluation method, the other is a philosophical decision on pick value. They could be using analytics to rank players, but still think trading up is a good idea.

Oh, Rossi has lots of jam. A very gritty, borderline dirty, player.
-
Totally agree here.
-
I think they do compare to most of those players, and also it’s not as if all those players were in the league at the same time.
-
His puck handling/carrying stood out to me too. In addition to using it to get shots off, I think he could be a really good possession/cycler when he has full man strength. I think Raymond is without a doubt a much better skater. Quinn-average, Raymond-great
-
Oh goodness yes. Raymond at least equals Quinn’s two way play. Raymond is far and away a better skater. Raymond is far and away a better passer/playmaker. Quinn is probably a little better goal scorer. Size isn’t too different, Quinn slightly larger.
-
Quinn isn’t soft at all. Not especially physical, average-ish, but plays a committed 200ft game, he goes to the dirty areas. Watch him play, he isn’t soft. He isn’t a perimeter guy.
-
Perfetti I question his commitment to all areas of the game. Skating needs work and he mostly avoids physical play, defense is meh. He has skills, likes goals and everything else seems like an afterthought for him.
-
I’m going to add this. I think any criticism given to Buffalo for picking Quinn, should also equally be given to NJ for picking Holtz. I don’t see a big difference between the two picks in terms of value at the draft slot and players passed up.
-
You never know. They “reached” in the 1st, maybe they’ll “reach” in the 2nd too!
-
Patrick Kane, Nikita Kucherov, Mitch Marner, David Pastrnak, Mark Stone...........
-
Marat Kushnutdinov, please. Other options I like: Jan Mysak Tristen Robins Justin Sourdif Topi Niemelä
-
I’m gonna go watch Jack Quinn video. Night everyone.
-
We can still grade it, but that grade will just be our opinion. Only thing that actually matters is how good this player ends up being. That grade doesn’t come due for a while.
-
BPA is tricky because it depends on the evaluation criteria. BPA in whose eyes? I’m sure Buffalo thinks he was the BPA.
-
Almost, almost

Jack Quinn wears #22. This is obviously the reason that Larsson won’t be returning. Facts. Other realer news. Quinn sounds mature and confident in his post draft media Q & A. Plus, I like his suit and his video chat background is cool and more professional than 42% of the Buffalo media members interviewing him. Also, he thinks he might need one more year in juniors, if the team thinks so, but after that will definitely be NHL ready.

Jack Quinn will be drafted before teammate Marco Rossi. Am I doing this right? Am I too late?
