  1. I've contacted witness protection program. They suggested the name That Aud Scent. Think it'll work?
  2. Even when WC gets it right, he doesn't get it right. Can't wait to see Bogo make his debut, is it confirmed he will play tonight?
  3. Amen to that.
  4. Appreciate the follow-up and clarification. Yes, I am very disheartened. My narrative went along with my own personal ideals, which of course got in the way of the bigger picture.
  5. Neo: To make sure nothing was lost in translation, the section with marginalization and fear mongering was NOT directed at you. That would be my direct response to her. I hold your opinions and beliefs in high regard, as I do with the rest of the members in this forum even when views differ. I prefer it that way actually. Also, I think it's important to add that what I said doesn't mean I think we should sit on our hands and do nothing in regards to terrorism.
  6. Ann Coulter: Why does NO ONE say the obvious thing on TV?! It's insane. Don't want terrorism in US? Stop importing Muslims! My response copy and pasted from Facebook: Radical Islam is becoming the rule rather than the exception??? There are over 1.5 BILLION Muslims in the world. Over 23% of the world's population. The CIA estimates there are 20-30,000 ISIS members. That is AT MOST 0.002% of all Muslims. Quit being a fear monger and marginalizing a quarter of the world's population. I would like to think we as a population of educated people are better than this but maybe I'm giving everyone too much credit. If you ask me, she's a parasite. You didn't ask me though. I will also argue that her thoughts don't represent anywhere near half the population. 23% of the population identify as Republican. When adding independents who lean right, the number increases to 39%. I'm sure the "leaners" don't share her radical views. I'm also sure that not all self-described Republicans share her views. Party Affiliation numbers: http://www.people-press.org/2015/04/07/a-deep-dive-into-party-affiliation/ (39% ID as Independents, a 75 year high. Sounds like more and more people are standing for their own beliefs rather than a platform's beliefs. Refreshing.)
  7. Agreed. Double agreed, although I would like for the US to take a surgeon's approach. Attack ISIS with a scalpel, take them out from the neck up. I'm thinking drones. Rain from above. Not a downpour, but a calculated mist. There are about 17 million people left in Syria and 33 million in Iraq. CIA estimates there are 20-30,000 ISIS members. Let's go with 30,000. We are fighting the 0.06%. Need to be precise in order to avoid rupturing any brain arteries (innocent casualties).
  8. You don't want to know what I would do, but I'm not trained and not versed in dealing with terrorists. I've also been binge watching Game of Thrones so I'm more inclined to take a page out of the medieval playbook rather than the US counter terrorism playbook
  9. This game will be a very welcomed mental break from the tragedy in Paris. Hopefully the Sabres win and lift my spirits.
  10. If there's a consumer base, there's a market for them. The trick is weeding through the consumer base to make sure those who are responsible enough to own one may get one.
  11. This is my concern. I don't know how you do this "once." While once sounds like a relatively short amount of time, how many decades and generations of people need to occupy the ME in order to create sustainability and permanently delete a radical ideology that has continuously cropped up from numerous groups? This isn't Fascism, where a few powerful leaders are hoping to extend their power across the world, this is much more stronger and personal than that. These radicals BELIEVE what they're doing is God's work, and that is extremely difficult to cleanse from someone. To clarify, I'm not saying you're wrong. In fact, if what you propose was calculated and feasible, I would be all for it. These are just the thoughts that run through my head when I hear possible solutions.
  12. Cheers to that
  13. Police storming the concert hall. Praying they take out the gunmen before any more hostages' lives are taken.
  14. This has left me shaken. I flew to Paris to study abroad less than 2 weeks after the Charlie Hebdo attack. Call it naive but I wasn't as disturbed as this latest attack has left me. Like others have said, once you live in the city and feel the tradition and culture, it doesn't quite hit home any harder.
  15. I'm glad he linked the article about the Dem debate analysis, because I thought I was going crazy for a second (or having a moment of confirmation bias). Everything I saw online from "the people" was that Bernie did great and Hillary left something to be desired, but every article written the next morning has Hillary as a landslide winner. Glad I'm not crazy.
  16. I love the concept of a flat tax and elimination of loopholes as well. The question is, what is the magic number? What % of income should be taxed? 15%? Is that really enough? 20%? 25%? Is that too high for lower income individuals? Should corporations be taxed at the same rate as humans if they want to maintain their legal personhood? Would that just drive jobs out of the US?
  17. Very good questions that I obviously don't have the answers to, I was simply quoting the article. I think I'm pro-Obamacare, but I'm admittedly not very educated on it and wouldn't understand the specifics that make up health care. I just view the health of citizens as one of the very few sectors of society that shouldn't be at the will of the open market.
  18. I don't want to take the topic off the video but I just read a Yahoo fact check article on the debate last night. Question: Do I become less informed from watching these debates when seemingly every other thing coming out of candidate's mouths is a lie or a fabrication of some sort? "Welders make more money than philosophers" Not on average they don't. "Bush's tax plan can lead to 4% growth." Highly improbable based on forces in the economy outside the control of any president (rising automation, low-wage competition overseas, etc.). Current forecasts predict half that rate. "Obamacare isn't helping anyone." Americans without health care is down to 9%, a historic low. "Since 2008, the economy has grown on average 1.2%. The Obama economy is a disaster." The average is right, but doesn't take into account that Obama inherited a recession that saw the economy shrink 2.5% in his first year. "I'm (Trump) self-funding my campaign." His campaign finance report shows $3.8 of his $3.9 mil in fundraisers from the last quarter are from donors. There were a few more but I don't feel like typing any more. I'm tired of lies and half truths. I'm tired of both sides blaming every damn thing on the other side. The last few months I became somewhat enamored with the election and my duty to vote and be educated and responsible. I feel like I'm on the verge of doing a 180 and hating politics all over again. Who has all the time in the world to sort through all the ?
  19. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/alabama-police-filmed-pulling-student-from-apartment-using-taser/ Did anyone discuss this story in this thread? I can't remember it being brought up. If this isn't the appropriate place I can easily delete it. Just thought I should share if it hasn't been brought up yet. Ala. police filmed pulling student from apartment, using Taser Internal affairs investigators with the Tuscaloosa Police Department are looking into videos that surfaced Sunday that appear to show a student being pulled from his apartment by police officers who used a Taser on the man before possibly striking him. Three police officers have been placed on paid administrative leave while the incident is being investigated, announced Tuscaloosa Police Chief Steve Anderson during a press conference Monday. Anderson said he is "deeply disappointed" in how his officers handled the incident. In the videos, which were recorded early Sunday morning, an officer can be seen standing at the door of a student's apartment, just off campus, at first arguing with several people. The officer, who was responding to a noise complaint according to the Tuscaloosa Police Department, was denied entry to the apartment, and a student who was asked to leave the residence can be heard on video refusing to do so. "I respect your authority, but you're not allowed in my apartment," the student says. "You're not respecting my authority," the officer says. "Can you please step out of the apartment and we will talk to you." "Absolutely not." As other people can be heard yelling about legal representation and warrants, the police officer can be seen grabbing the student -- who those in the video refer to as "Brandon" -- by the shirt. Tuscaloosa police confirmed that 21-year-old Brandon James Williford was arrested Sunday at the apartment complex and charged with obstructing governmental operations, harassment and resisting arrest. "You're under arrest for harassment for touching my arm," the officer says. The officer then shoves another student away before coming all the way into the apartment, followed by several other officers. In multiple videos that surfaced on social media Sunday, officers can be seen using a Taser on Williford and one appears to strike him with a nightstick several times. The officer who was involved in the initial confrontation, as well the ones filmed using a Taser and a baton, were placed on administrative leave Monday. Police have not released the officers' names. The responding officer was wearing a body camera, reports CBS affiliate WHNT. Anderson said during the press conference Monday that the footage will be released to the public. Peter Pajor, a photographer who graduated from the University of Alabama in May and was among those who shared the videos on Sunday, said in an email that tension between police in Tuscaloosa and students isn't new. He noted that the school's student association held a panel in 2014 to advise students of their rights when confronted by police -- in particular after going to a bar, and during traffic stops. "The general vibe is that often the Tuscaloosa police don't have a whole lot going on so they unfairly focus on students doing minor things wrong," said Pajor, who added that an officer responding to a noise complaint once "walked right in to my apartment without knocking or asking permission." The University of Alabama is also conducting its own investigation into the campus police who were at the scene, "to verify they acted appropriately." Here's the video. Heads up, there's swearing so NSFW
  20. I was surprised by Kasich, that was probably his worst performance among the debates so far. Not that he has a chance to win, but he was someone I could trust to put up a good discussion. Rand Paul surprised me last night, he wasn't someone I gave much thought to but he seems to be another candidate who speaks what he believes, party platform be damned.
  21. I like Bernie as I've stated on here before. I don't agree with all of his stances, but his policies are intertwined in each other and he truly wants to help as many people as possible which is admirable. If he loses the primary (which seems likely at the moment) then I don't have a horse in the race.
  22. HAH! I'm glad I trusted my gut on her, I thought she seemed kind of disingenuous after the Dem debate and couldn't figure out why the media felt she won the night. Maybe that's what pushes me to guys like Bernie and Kasich... They're consistent, they know what they stand for. Bernie has an ideological view of what America should look like and bases all of his policies around that genuine view. Kasich isn't afraid to call out other Republicans when their proposed plans aren't realistic (which he did within about 10 minutes in the last debate). His track record in Ohio is also favorable. If things stay consistent and the Presidential nomination is between Clinton and Trump/Carson, count me in for the independent running no matter what the hell he stands for or says. This can't go on forever.
  23. For the love of the red white and blue, let's hope it doesn't come to that.
  24. And O'Reilly. I look for both of them whenever a line change is made. They're so fun to track around the ice
  25. Cassel 34-41 (45% win %age) EJ 6-10 (38% win %age) The SHOCKING conclusion, they're both pretty horrible. Although not as horrible as comparing QB win stats in a game that involves roughly 33 players (11 on offense and defense and special teams) and about a dozen coaches in order to win one game. This post isn't directed at you specifically inkman, just using your question as my soapbox.
