  1. Well, ok. But there are certain players we thought would be doing more. Team chemistry will take time. But just surprising not to see certain players doing better with a better supporting cast

Seems like most of the players we are disappointed in have been injured

My focus watching this season is on the future. Any player I may consider a disappointment are players I don't see on the roster in a season or two. There is going to be a lot of turnover the next couple of seasons.

  2. Keep the coaching staff.

Keep building the defense and O-line through the draft.

Find a kick-returner to replace Harvin.

Do what it takes to get Kaepernick into a Bills uniform next season.

Sorry, the Bills don't have time with this defense to draft and cultivate a mid-first round QB prospect.

  3. The Bills play all three teams they're tied with at 5-5 before the end of the season, including the next two weeks against the Chiefs and Texans. If they win the next two games they should be in the playoffs despite today's failure.

But they're going to need whoever is under center to suddenly become a good QB.

This is 100% correct. Taylor looked as bad last night as he did in the first Patriots game and almost as bad as he did against the Titans. Unless the Bills have the Dolphins on the schedule a couple of more times we will see much of the luster come off Taylor between now and the end of yet another playoff-less season.

The offensive game plan was horrible last night. The backs ran 600 yards east/west to gain 94 yards north/south. The offensive line isn't good enough to maintain the blocks needed to make that style of running work.

Sammy Watkins is truly Mr.Glass. He makes one catch through three quarters and needs the trainers? I fear he may not be tough enough for the NFL.

Clock/timeout management again was horrific. 7 minutes left, down by 10 and the Taylor and the offense are strolling around like the game is tied or they are down by three. And that two minute drive was pathetic. Get the ball back with 1:50 left and they couldn't even make it to mid-field.

The score may have been close, the feeling after the game is the same as it has been for years. I take no moral victory away from this, just the realization that the 2015 Buffalo Bills are nowhere near good enough to do anything significant.

  4. Leadership is doing what is necessary whether it is popular or not. Drawing down troops (and not to the level the President proposed which was a non-starter w/ the Iraqis) was working towards that goal of being out of Iraq. And that was a readily available option. Just flat out walking out the way we did was a horribly poor decision which will cost us significantly more in lives and $'s than leaving a reasonable but reduced presence. Declaring we've won and walking away before ensuring the gains were secured is an awful legacy.

The President also came to office claiming he'd shut down Club Gitmo and that was 'what the American people wanted' as well. Club Gitmo is still active and operating. Our presence in Iraq should have been there still as well.

You didn't read my earlier post; if you did you wouldn't post this strawman.

I will not respond to this.

    No straw involved at all.

It's a fools dream that Iraq or any Middle Eastern state will become like the US or Canada without first dealing with the root problems. Keeping Iraq as a US patrolled police state is not how you make real change. Change has to come from within, not a threat of a US tank.

  5. And that is misleading. Everybody knew in 2008 that the status of forces agreement was to be renewed before it expired in 2011. The President in 2011 wanted our troops out and got what he wanted.

Spending trillions more and sacrificing more Americans lives was/is not the answer.

You don't fight ideology with tanks and bombs. The problem in the Middle East has been and will always be that there is a small group  who are high jacking a religion to overtake and control a region. They force young men into their ranks telling them how evil the West is, showing the path of destruction of two Gulf wars and Israeli military strikes. These young men have know idea there is a better life out there. Those that do, flee the region. It's important to show these young men that there is a better life out there for them and that they are not hated simply due to their skin color and religion.

  6. So, Rhonda Rousey got KO'd in the 2nd round tonight

Best thing that could have ever happened to Women's MMA.  Not only does it set up a monster re-match that will sell a bunch of pay-per views. It gives the causal fan another point of interest in the sport. I'm sure the hardcore MMA fans know who Holly Holm is, tomorrow morning the entire world will know.

  7. And then the US wants to bring over 100,000 Syrian refugees into this country. Are u £ucking kidding me. No way in hell should we bring any of these people over. But this just goes to show you how retarded our politicians are. You don't think IS will have people in those refugee groups???

We need to help those 100's of thousands of men, women children trying to escape the violence. I'm sorry, your post is the exact type of reaction that terrorists are hoping for.

  8. Here is a compromise. The rule stays the same, but a challenge can be only be upheld if the entire body is offsides (both skates if on the ice, one skate if the other leg is in the air).

Anything else is too close to overturn.

Offsides is offsides, no need to start categorizing it.

If the Sabres lose a game I want to now that the goal was legit. If they lose and replay shows later the play was offsides I would be pissed. The NHL's coaches challenge is replay done right.  I wish the NFL would expand their coaches challenge system.

That should work. But it could still take them 5 minutes to determine HOW blatent the offsides was. If there is a 30-60 sec time limit on the review, lets run w/ it.

So, you wouldn't mind if the Sabres lost a game on a bad call as long as it only takes 30-60 seconds to review?

Length of time of reviews and the "flow of the game" arguments continue to be the most bogus arguments against the replay system.

  9. I expected this.  It's not worth my time to "state my evidence".  It's all here for everyone to see if they want.  Posters know where they stand and everyone else who has read this thread does too.

I listed the chart and the references.  I'm sure the Justice Department and FBI know what they're doing when it comes to gathering crime data.

The simple fact of the matter is Patrick Kane had a 98% chance of victory even if he did the crime.  Knowing the American criminal justice system his chance of victory was likely 100% considering how much money he has.

I've read every post in this thread.  I've been a complete observer until it caught me at a bad moment and I jumped in head first for some reason, even though I know the outcome.

What victim am I shaming?  Poor Patty Kane? (He'll be fine)  Poor posters? (they'll be fine too)

I am speculating that based on the DATA and crime statistics that something very well could have happened, and happens to many women in America, and yet the perpetrator will walk free, so this situation is not unusual.  Patrick Kane always had at least a 98% chance of victory.  It does not mean the potential victim should be charged with a crime, was out for money, or that she was acting in bad faith in any way.

    It needed/needs a hand grenade.

It's a horrible combination of the need to protect a local sports hero and a country's attitude towards women. We still live in a country where being a woman is considered the lessor by many. Be it the attitude that a woman must have "wanted it" or is "out for money" when it comes to situations like the Kane situation or if it is the desire to control reproductive rights or even inequality in the workplace. Crimes and slights against women are just not taken seriously. It's hard to believe in this day and age it is the case, but we are dealing with centuries of religious influence where in most religions women are basically property of their husbands and fathers.

It shouldn't be difficult for anyone to believe how easy it is to get away with a sexual crime against women. Bill Crosby was able to rape dozens of women over decades. Sexual crimes are not like other crimes, the life long scaring and damage caused often will drive a woman to move past the situation as quickly as possible especially when they know the chances are slim that justice will every be served. I'm sure this went into this woman's decision to move on. Why allow herself to be assaulted again through the process when chances of justice are so low.

  10. Excuse you, but this kind of post is disgusting.  So you decided to come in here and shame people based on positions you are clearly misrepresenting.

You like stats and data?  Provide some data yourself: who is victim shaming in this thread?  And what is your evidence?

Who is "crowing over their 'victory'" in this thread?  State your evidence.

If you want to be the moral bully, at least have the courage to call people out directly.

And here's a question that's sure to make you apoplectic: how do they know 68 in 100 rapes go unreported if they are, in fact, unreported?

    Why so defensive?

East lays the numbers right out in front of everybody. It's the numbers posters should be angry with not East. Even in 2015 when it comes to sexual crimes against women it continues to be one of the easiest crimes to get away with.

  11. Maybe in this case.  But in other cases you could prove that there's no way the rape could happen taken place.  There could be surveillance footage.  You could prove the timeline doesn't work out.  Sometimes they can prove the wounds the supposed victim had were self-inflicted.

Yes, there are ways to prove accusations are false.  And in those cases, the person making the false accusations should be punished.

We should punish false accusations both to protect people from having their lives ruined by a false accusation and to discourage false accusations from even happening.  In the long run, it'll help the legitimate victims.

IMO, it does nothing more than give lawyers like Cambria something else to attack victims with.

  12. Wait. So let me get you all straight: if this doesn't go to a grand jury and the case is dropped, some of you still want to believe Kane is guilty of something and the accuser's claim still has merit?

The case being dropped is not a proclamation of innocence. Cases of  he said/she said often don't go to trial.

It's not even insufficient evidence to proceed to trial; what the News is implying is that there's insufficient evidence to proceed to a grand jury.  Big difference in the quantum of proof necessary.

Prosecuting the accuser would result in a chilling effect that I don't want to see.  Ever.  Unless there's Duke lacrosse levels of misconduct.

How does a woman prove that she said "no!" ?

  13. Thanks for the heads up.

Due process is all anyone can ask or expect. Seems like it's been had here.

Problem is a gross amount of sexual assaults and rapes don't get prosecuted. The longer the process goes the less likely the prosecution goes forward. It's don;t difficult to avoid or beat a rape or sexual assault charge, especially if you have money.

My hope in all of this is that this women's life hasn't been completely destroyed. There are some things in life you just can't move on from. Even if the prosecution were to move forward and end in a conviction it is less likely that this women would go on to live a reasonably normal life.

  14. I'm a sucker for John Carpenter's Halloween. Loved Rob Zombie's version, but there's just something about the original.

Full disclosure: I only like slasher films. Any other genre of horror is a guarantee for me not liking it. I hate the supernatural aspects of horror.

Love all the Rob Zombie movies, both Halloween I & II as well as House of a 1,000 Corpses and Devil's Rejects.

  15. What's the scariest movie you guys have ever seen? I need suggestions for tonight.

    Two for your consideration.

A Japanese movie called "Audition", starts off very slow, the final third of the movie will keep you up at nights.

A French movie called "High Tension", starts off fast and keeps on going. Very disturbing at points.

You should be able to find one or both on Amazon or Netflix.

  16. I'm up to date. Am I forgetting something about the respective wives?

The idea for celebrity walkers is great. It got me to thinking that the walkers don't get quite enough attention. They're almost there as extras, devices to move the plot along. There have been zombie movies where they move faster, even run at great speeds, or have somewhat human characteristics. I'd like to see the walkers evolve or become more interesting. This show needs some kind of refresh. It's so formulaic. Are we going to be watching this same stuff in three years? It needs to wind down. I say the walkers start to become more human again. Resolu-she-own.

Zombies are environmental, they were never intended to be the focus of the story. People, be it in the comics or the show, are the focus and the true evil. If you looking for evolution look no further than Rick & Carol. You can also see it in other characters. If they continue to use the books as a compass we will all see the evolution of evil.

  17. I'd go with Johnson, the rookie had a good night, best to keep him on a schedule. Let the success of last night set in for a bit, the Islanders can score some goals in bunches. I would hate to see any confidence the kid earned last night be crushed by an Islanders 4-5 spot. Build the kid up and don't rush him into a work load he may not be ready for.

  18. Calgary doesn't surprise me that much.  They have questionable GT and their possession metrics last year indicated they should be bad. They do however have the talent to turn it around.

The drop off from their goaltending is a big factor. They are allowing basically the same amount of shots as last season, their save percentages are way down. Goals wise they are down almost an entire goal per game despite maintaining pretty much the same amount of shots. They are also allowing almost 1 1/2 more goals per game so far.

Now that we are almost a month into the Season, I was thinking of some things that are really surprising me around the NHL:

-Boston.  I thought they were going to fall off the cliff. I truly thought they would be a below .500 team the entire year. It is early, but they are playing pretty well since the first week.

-Crosby.  I still figured on him being a point-a-game guy or slightly more with Kessel, but him only getting 1 goal through 10 games is a little surprising. Interesting fact:  in the last calendar year (Oct 30 2014, to Oct 30, 2015), Crosby has played in 78 games and has 22 total goals.

-Toronto.  I thought they would be pretty bad, but not 1 win in the first month bad.

-Calgary. A drop off from last year?  I didn't even think that with the young guys they have and them getting better.  They can still turn it around, but they look like a different team.

-Jamie Benn.  Hard to say  the guy who led the league in points last year is a surprise...but I thought last year was his career year.  Hes starting out even better than last year.

-Fighting. Last year was the lowest number of fights in the NHL (per game) since the late 1960s (last year had less than half what we saw even in the early 2000s) and this year so far it is even much lower than last year. Go back into the 1990's and the Sabres had close to (or above) 100 fights a year.  In 2003-2004 they had 68.  Through most of the last 5 years, they had 30-40 per year. This year, they are on a pace for about 15.

As long as the hockey is good though, I don't really miss the fights.

Anything else that I missed, or that really stands out to anyone as a surprise though the first month?

Boston leading the league with 4 goals per game while being undefeated on the road is an early season surprise.

The Kings being 6-3 (losing 3 than winning 6 straight) through 9 games while only scoring 20 goals and allowing 18 has to be the strangest start to the season.

  19. The Sabres are averaging about a half a goal more this season (2.27) than they ended last season with (1.87). Which may not seem like a lot, if you look at the GF average compared to other teams, more teams are struggling to score this season. Last season a 2.27 would have placed the Sabres 27th, this season it's good for 21st. I know these are aren't blow your mind numbers, it will be interesting to see how these numbers play out for the rest of the season. Considering the slow start, 21st is decent, borderline respectable.
