  1. I have one Zach Bogosian. Big, physical playoff player under contract. You know you want him Stevie!

Really though, as someone who wants to roll the dice on Drouin, that seems like a really high asking price given all the questions.

Why would the Sabres even consider trading Bogosian? He's 24 at a fixed cost long term. It would have to be one hell of a return. Not sure if Drouin is worth it.

  2. I said the Blackhawks were done and then they went out and pulled off that trade?  Sheesh.

I won't say it again.. but man.. I wonder what they'll look like in 2-3 years.

With Toews, Kane, Keith & Seabrook locked-up long term they'll be winning Stanley Cups still in 2-3 years. Teams like the Hawks, Bruins and the Kings are solidly run organizations and will continue to remain mainstays at the top of the league for a long time.

  3. I'm confused. What would be the motivation behind getting Stamkos? Win now? Win long term? Cap issues?

Also, if I'm TB, I don't do that deal either

Win now, absolutely. No cap issues because you can let Stamkos walk and the Hawks replenish their roster as they normally do. Business as usual in Chicago.

The Lightning would not likely get a better offer.

  4. He took his last team of nonames to a SC final. Everything you are saying is crap. It is a figment of a bunch of 'Merican lets feel better about ourselves by ridiculing the selfish Russian BS.

It's a shame he went home to play. One of the great goal scorers missing from a league in desperate need of goals. He could easily have over 500 career goals by this point. His play during that playoff run was as solid and physical as you could hope to see.

  5. They have the league's MVP (blowing everyone out of the water too) having major success with Panarin and Anisimov. They're cost controlled, and Panarin is much younger. I wouldn't obliterate my best line, and a top 3 line in the league, to just rent Stamkos and his cap troubles

It depends what Chicago wants to do. A s I said, I wouldn't necessarily do the deal, just pointing out a deal can be done. A PP unit with Kane, Toews and Stamkos  has to give any GM something to think about.

  6. He's a POS. First class play no defense, only worried about my offense POS. He'll alienate everyone before stepping off the plane. It's a team sport and Ilya has never displayed any inclination that he comprehends this.

You are proving you know nothing about Kovalchuk.

  7. The Jets retain 36% of Ladd's Salary and the Hawks have 1.4 million left on the cap for the trade deadline.

They are totally getting Stamkos in a last minute change of heart for Stevie Y aren't they?

Scratch that, #Blackhawks are at $318,315 in projected end of season cap space, $1.48M with Harrison's $100k buried on the books. Per General Fanager

The Hawks could send Artemi Panarin & Artem Anisimov to Tampa which would get them close money wise.  They would likely have to throw in a Marcus Kruger to even out the money. It can be done.  Not saying I would make this deal in it's current form, just pointing out a team like the Hawks who are looking to win a Cup this season could easily add Stamkos if they desired.

  8. Ennis isn't as skilled as St. Louis and isn't nearly as thuggish as Marchand, but I have seen flashes of Briere in him.  More than just flashes, actually.  Given some space and another playmaker, I think there's a lot he could do.  I would love to see them try him with Reino and Zemgus.

He has to up his game to get to the Holzinger/Plante level let alone Briere. I see where this team is heading, and I just don't see a spot for Ennis.

  9. How tall was Briere?

Are you saying Ennis and Briere are equivalent or do they both just happen to be 5' 9"/5' 10". Why not go with Marty St. Louis? Ennis is neither of those players and does not have the game to makeup for his lack of stature. Like Marchand as mentioned in the other thread. 5' 9" doesn't automatically mean you can't play in the league, you just better be bringing a hell of a lot more game than Ennis does, which Briere, St. Louis and Marchand do/did.

  10. Actually, he opened up his stance, so you couldn't tell which way he way going, pump faked twice and pivoted on his right foot to get the quick back hand..........Watch the replay again to see all that he did.......By the way the Sabres should watch it again, because our guys have no moves whatsoever

I've watched it over and over, I've seen that same more 100 times, if Lehner doesn't fall face down it's a fairly easy save or the player backhands over the net.

DeLuca, I agree with you on the Risto comments, but blaming Lehner for the Marchand goal?

Lots of speed, a subtle head fake, and then absolutely roofing the backhand?

A much as it pains me to admit it. Ratboy's finish was a thing of beauty.

    http://nesn.com/2016/02/brad-marchands-overtime-penalty-shot-goal-thrills-bruins-angers-sabres/

I don't think Lehner was focused. IMO, any move Marchand could make was going to work.

    He can't be.  He's only 5'9".

I wish our 5' 9" players had his game.

  11. You are learned. I was not a poster during Varada's tenure. I was a fan. No assignment, but do you (or others) have a view on Vaclav's value?

Physical agitator type that could play strong D, chip in with offense here and there and drew penalties. Think of Marchand minus Marchand's offensive talent.

I disagree, they weren't getting open or spreading out so he tried to force to puck to them. The forwards who should have been out there would give him better passing options.

The pass Marchand ended up stealing was about as weak a pass attempt as you will see. He could have just went off the boards with the puck. It was a tough play on a tough shift for kid.

  12. Lehner might have looked bad on that PS, but you didn't happen to notice the super wicked move that Marchand put on him????  Marchand is a total douchebag but his move was bad ass and that is why Lehner looked bad on that PS......Lehner played great in that game and yes it would have been great if he pulled off an amazing save on the PS, but to say that he just fell on his stomach for no reason is not fair at all.

Lehner's reaction after the goal tells me his mind was on the call not making the save.

Tell me what was so "super sick" about Marchand's move? It was about as basic a move as you will see on a penalty shot. He skated in, Lehner began to fall and he went to the backhand. The wan't really anything that impressive about Marchand's move.

  13. In today's NHL, scoring 20 goals 3 seasons in a row definitely gives you "proven NHL second liner" status.

Not on a contending team. On a bottom third team, yeah sure. If the Sabres, or any team, is going to contend for a playoff spot it won't be with Ennis at 5' 9" skating in the top six forwards on a regular basis.

  14. Can someone tell me why we are in such a rush to trade Ennis? He's a proven NHL 2nd liner who is still young (25), can play any forward position, and by all accounts is a good locker room guy.

Because he is not a "proven NHL 2nd liner?" Is a good, yet small, player on a rebuilding team. On a top tier contending team he is a third liner at best that should see some power play time.He just doesn't have that much talent that makes you forget how small he is.

Ennis saw him coming and turned his back to OV. Good clean finishing of a check by OV.

  15. This would be eight straight road games against Divisional foes with at least a point.

This is another sign that things are going in the right direction.

They are only 2 games under .500 on the road.

They have 20 ROWs compared to 15 all of last year.

21 wins already this season, 23 all of last.

They have allowed 143 goals in 53 games, and will end the season closer to 200 goals allowed than they will the 274 they allowed in 2014-15.

They are going to end up with more than the 161 goals they scored last season, and that is with two key offensive contributors, Moulson & Ennis, giving you nothing.

There is a lot to take away from this season no matter where they end up in the standings.

  16. Having Gionta and Larsson out there is basically playing not to lose. Risto tried to do too much because those two were out there. Eichel, O'Reilly, Reinhart, Kane, Girganson, and maybe McGinn should be the only forwards getting ice in OT.

No need to try and excuse the play away as "trying to do too much", it was what it was, which is Ristolainen's worst shift of his young career. He almost gave Marchand a breakaway seconds earlier on the same shift. He looked a bit rattled on the shift.  It had nothing to do with Gionta and Larsson, it was all Ristolainen.

It was an obvious bad call, which happen. I would have liked to see Lehner make the save there which nullifies the bad call. The graphic above is cute, I would have liked to see Lehner do more than fall on his stomach on the penalty shot. Would have been great to see him pickup his young teammate up with a save after a bad shift.

Larsson played another monster game anchoring the 3rd line.  He and Kane are hell to play against.

We have seen this from Larsson before. His problem is consistency and sustainability. If Larsson can play a Vaclav Varada roll on this team than he brings great value. He has to put it all together, he is only 23 so he has time and the Sabres can show some patience.

  17. DeLuca 500!!

As much as people loved to rag on me about that, if you look at the standings today every team that has won at least half of their games is holding a playoff spot. It is a simple truth of the NHL and has been for some time. You need to win half of your games to have a chance at the playoffs.

3 for regulation, 2 for OT, 1 for shootout. Problem solved?

    No need.

  18. I hate that the NHL rewards losses with a point.

Seems that they are the only league (other than the CHL, if I recall correctly) that does in major league sports.

I've banged the drums for a wins only based system for some time. Get rid of the points system, this ain't NASCAR.

  19. I recently saw H8ful Ate, The Forest, and The Revenant.

H8ful ate was very meh. I love pretty much every other Tarantino film but this one felt like he was just going by the numbers to make another movie. It was a period film (1868 in the West) shot like a western. The first 45 minutes had me super excited but it quickly fizzled out. The climax was very boring to me. Without Walton Goggins there would've been very little to keep me in my seat.

The Forest was okay. Just a pretty good horror film, nothing more. Nat Dormer displayed her chops and: she's a good actress. GoT criminally underutilizes her. The movie needed more focus, especially more visual unity between the beginning and end. There weren't any overlying themes or visual metaphors, and this film was just begging for it.

The Revenant was amazing. Best use of nature in a film that I've ever seen. This movie is about a guy in 1823, nature, life, and whether or not we even deserve it. One of my favorite movies of the year along with Fury Road.

You hit Hateful Eight right on the head. It's a reason to eat some popcorn, not much more.

Started watching Jessica Jones on NetFlix. Three episodes in, I'm not sure how I feel at this point.

  20. While I agree coaches in general have no balls in the NFL in almost all situations... Except maybe Bruce Arians a couple of times. I still think that a field goal is too easy to get.. Throw a bomb and get a Bs pass interference penalty and bam it's almost like game over. It's so much easier to move the ball the 40 yards needed for FG range than it is for the TD. Maybe the college system isn't the fix, but I think it's much more fair this way.

I would only accept the college system if they eliminated the field goal option. TD or bust.

  21. It's garbage to have sudden death when a kicker can boot one from 60 yards. A coin flip dictates who gets the ball. It's not like hockey where each team has an even shot to posses the puck, and then let the better team dominate.

Let the teams put their offense and defense our there like it was meant to be and fight it out with skill.

I agree on Palmer, I want him and fitzgerald to win, they have to play better than they did yesterday if they want that to happen.

If your special teams and defense allows a team to march down the field and score why does a team deserve a shot on offense? Kickoff, cover on special teams and have your defense hold for a 3 and out and you get the ball at about midfield. The college system is horrible and not a reflection of the game, like the NHL's 3 on 3 is not representative of the game as a whole.

The Packers had a chance to win the game. The had a choice to go for 2 pts with no time on the clock. They decided to go for the single extra point. If Mike McCarthy would have showed some balls the Packers might be alive in the playoffs today. It was that decision that ended up costing the Packers the game, not a coin flip.

  22. Wonder what the odds are the NFL ever adopts that concept

Why not just play 3 on 3?

I wish the NFL would go back to the sudden death version of OT. The isn't kindergarten where each kid gets a seat in musical chairs.

Hats off to Carson Palmer. When he left Cincy many thought he was on his way out of the NFL. What a great resurrection story. I am rooting for Palmer and the Cardinals to win it all.
