  1. So, if he's top 5, and you are granting Gretzky, Orr, & Lemieux 3 of the other spots, which 2 are you bumping out for Ovie: Hasek, Harvey, or Howe? (Yes, 1 has to be out anyway for top 5, but you're knocking 2 out; which 2?)

I'm knocking out Harvey and Howe.  I am becoming a real modernist lately when it comes to sports. I think that most of the average player sin today's game would be stars in the 60's-70's & 80's. Even the lessor tier goalies would be stars in that era. The evolution of NHL players as athletes over the past 20 years, especially in goal, has been phenomenal.

I feel this way across all sports.

Think you have to include the Rocket there as well.

He was certainly the Ovi of his generation.

Problem with players like the Rocket is that the level of goaltending during his time was pretty sad. Much like hitters today in baseball compared to the 50's and 60's. I think hitters today would crush the cheese thrown by pitchers from that era.

  2. I guess I didn't make the connection.  I know that's the line of thinking they were presenting, but it didn't seem so black and white.  Maybe I missed something

They should have taken it much further then they did. The defense team should have just come right out and said it when the officer was on the stand. I guess in the end it didn't matter since the jury came back with a guilty verdict because they feared for their personal safety not the evidence,

  3. None of this explains the key, the blood vile being tampered with, ZERO blood after an act of such violence, the only DNA on the key being Avery's (how long did she own that car)!!!! It's all freaking bullshiit and although Avery is no saint, there is no way in hell this is not a cover-up. He's going to leave zero evidence of anything ever taking place and then place the car on his own property?

If Avery had the car and hid it on the property, why would he take the key from the car and bring it to the house. If the key was dropped in the house at the time of the murder, wouldn;t they have looked for it to move the car?

    Also,

Also, the office called in the license plate, year and make of the vehicle to dispatch days after she went missing and before it was found. The police had the vehicle and planted it with the key on the Avery property.

  4. http://www.diebytheblade.com/2016/1/7/10728288/buffalo-sabres-injury-stats-man-games-lost

My question is simple really.  How much truth is there to the statement that Buffalo's depth is one of the main reasons we are so far outside a playoff spot?  We know that our top 6 is decent but whenever any of them get hurt it is like a plague has descended or the Sabres have a gremlin in their engine and the train goes off the rails. We definitely like depth as we are just starting to stock Rochester with draft picks, picks that need 1-3 years to develop.  We really have the original 23 man roster and nothing behind it.

100% healthy this team isn't likely a playoff team. There is a lot of building yet to be done.

  5. The wife and I binged watched this over the Christmas weekend. My wife works for a defense attorney and at points during the series she was brought to tears and other times she was so angry and frustrated we had to pause the show.

There is no doubt that Sgt. Colborn was in possession of the vehicle after the victim went missing and days before it was "discovered." Add in the fact that a previous blood sample had been tampered with it is astounding the convictions were not overturned. There should be a US Justice department investigation of the entire Wisconsin judicial system.

  6. If you think the Bills should have lost this game for draft position, turn in your fan card.  Tankalicious is collecting them.

This was a statement ###### win.

How many "statement ######" wins did Dick Jouron have as Bills coach. Nothing yesterday changes the fact this season was just more of the same. One meaningless moral victory is all fans have to hang their hats on?

As far as Mario Williams, keep him and hire Mike Pettine as defensive coordinator, a coach that will have him rushing the passer not dropping into coverage. If Rex Ryan want's to be an innovator on defense he should put an end to all the gadgets and garbage and just lineup his best players up in the positions they are best at and go at it.

  7. McNabb is 4th on the Kings in TOI. He is also 4th in shifts. He's playing on the top pairing, but is probably their #5 D-man. I did NOT say he brings nothing.

I asked the question why McNabb playing on the top pairing was considered a plus, but Gorges playing there was discounted.

And I ask you again, the question right above. Why is he a positive for the Kings, but Gorges playing a similar role isn't? He's 3rd for D in TOI & 2nd in shifts for the Sabres.

Of course he would. But would he be ahead of any of the Sabres current top 3? Very doubtful, and the game he brings ISN'T what the Sabres D lacks. He might very well be behind Pysyk also when healthy & McCabe.

You have to look no further that the two teams involved here. A top six forward on the Kings and a top pairing on the D are not the same as on the Sabres. It may  not always be accurate or fair, it's the common perception.

  8. Not to nitpick here, but how does McNabb get credited for playing w/ LA's best defenseman to allow their other 2 pairings to be stronger but Gorges gets no credit for being on the Sabres' top pairing and top pk pairing?

McNabb isn't a top pairing D-man anymore than Larsson was a #1 C at the end of last season. Sure, that's where he plays, but that's more on how good Daughty is than McNabb bringing a complete game.

Daughty is a stud defenseman on a Stanley Cup contender, but let's not diminish the fact that McNabb has to be bringing some game to get the minutes he is getting. He may not be a Norris candidate, he's not out of place.

  9. Sabres now in 29th

Is there a point here? When Jack Eichel is skating around the ice with the Sabres first Stanley Cup and handing it to Sam Reinhart is anyone going to care that on January 2nd of the 2015-16 season the Sabres were in 29th?  I know I'm being an a$$, I'm just frustrated at how some seem to be focusing on the meaningless. I know the Sabres lost today and losing sucks. Know what doesn't suck? The Sabres erased two deficits including a two goal goal deficit and the two lynch pins of the future are the players that delivered. Throw the standings out the window and relax and enjoy. Where on the ground floor of something really exciting.

  10. at what point does someone create a reverse standings table again?

January 1st and the Sabres are alone in 28th place. Though they are only 4 points out of 20th.

My eyes tell me this is a much improved squad but what do the numbers say?

    through 38 games played

                                  15/16        14/15

    Points                        34              31

    League placing         28th           28th

    GF                             88              76

    GA                            101             132

    Goal differential          -13             -56

They are much more competitive game to game but their lack of goal scoring has held them back from much improvement in the standings.

There is a lot more to building a contender than just goal scoring. As your numbers point out, going from a -56 to -13 is no small feat. And their nightly level of compete has been very very good. The goals will come over time.

  11. Moulson got a judicious stint with Gionta and O'Reilly for a week or two late November/early December.

Other than that, he hasn't seen much regular top-six action that I can recall.

As some point the players effort has to warrant a bigger opportunity. Teams looking to pick up some depth for a playoff run are going to look at Moulson's play this season and pass. There is nothing about his game this season that is appealing to other teams. Contract aside, I doubt Moulson would get any interest from a team if the Sabres simply waived him. Unless there is a team with serious injury problems that just need a warm body. Right now, any minute Moulson spends on the ice is wasted ice time for the Sabres.
