  1. I would like to propose eliminating the forced break and replacing it with non-guaranteed player contracts again. It's the only thing that is going to save this league, at least in the regular season. Product has never been worse.
  2. That's kind of funny. Didn't catch who suggested that. We are going to have 2 things to keep an eye on for fun this season. First is the sell off culminating in the trade deadline. Really interested to see how that plays out. Second will be if we can somehow end up dead last. Still less than 1 in 5 shot at winning the lottery, but it'll be fun to keep an eye on as the season unfolds. And then draft day. That's it!
  3. Voted "OTHER" For Hendrix b/c the thought of limiting his work to a few selections on a play list is stupid. I would have voted for "all of the above and more" if that had been an option. Same for Zeppelin; the play list would need to include, at a minimum, all tracks from Zeppelin 1 through IV. Houses of the Holy honorable mention with a few from that, and a few from later albums too. Fleetwood Mac? Meh...I went with "Go your own way."
  4. Andre Savard was a Sabre on the earliest teams I remember as a kid. Interesting story about the mutual accommodation.
  5. If we actually had a team or any chance whatsoever at the playoffs, this might be interesting news. As it is, it just doesn't really matter. I did enjoy Housley turning into Mr. Tough Guy in his post-game presser last night....threw Lehner under the bus right off the bat!  Great post! And here's a question for you: when was the last time the Sabres played an "important" game in which we were trying to win? I.E., tank games don't count. I seem to recall a late season game in Washington against the Caps. We needed to win to maintain our meager chances of making the playoffs, with only 4 or 5 games left in the season. Pommer got a great goal in that game when he intercepted the puck, and skated 2/3 of the ice along the far wall and scored. Ruff was still the coach. Who remembers that game? It was a big deal at the time. When was that? 6 years ago? It's the last time I remember feeling nervous and pumped up for a big, important Buffalo Sabres hockey game. (I think it was in March 2012)
  6. This stems from a collision with Kane in practice, right? That's kind of funny.
  7. Until almost the entire roster is turned over, it won't matter who our coach is. Highlights of this game for me: 1) Seeing what a bloated out freak Christian Ruuttu has become! Holy cow! Always hated that guy but I can't believe how different he looks now. 2) Seeing Rayzor in that old photo in front of Sabreland. I remember be at training camp out there when he was a rookie and was known as "Robert Ray"; got in a big fight with Darcy Loewen and the crowd was going wild. "need a new team" is not how it works. Sabres for life, as as that is!
  8. Listen to Paul Hamilton's comments from earlier today with Schopp and Bulldog about Kulikov. Kulikov totally comfortable and interacting with Winnipeg teammates now; in Buffalo he was totally by himself and would never say a word; said he didn't have dinner with any former Sabres teammates or talk to them. What's different now? Fun to come to rink, we're getting good coaching; fun when have good coaching; fun to come to rink when getting coaching and winning.... Implications that it was a show in Buffalo. From Hour 1, comments start around 34:45. http://www.wgr550.com/media/audio-channel/1-9-schopp-and-bulldog-hour-1-0
  9. Looking on the bright side of things: 1) We kept them to only 6; could have been 8 or 9. 2) We are horrible and going to get much worse after the trade deadline when the little talent we have is stripped from the team, save Eichel; we have a great shot at finishing last and with some luck, who knows. Maybe we can win the lottery and take Dahlin. 3) Mittelstadt has become the toast of the World Juniors; arguably best player on the ice for any country. 4) I really feel like Botterill is going to sell off everything he can; this team is going to be severely restructured. 5) The trades are likely to start soon. Maybe as soon as next week. I'm anxious to see how things play out. This show is more on the players than the coach in my opinion. Having said that, I think Housley has proven to be the wrong guy for the job. I don't expect him to go anywhere this season. Think he starts next season as our HC.
  10. I think we should have 2 major goals: Trade almost everyone, and lose out.
  11. He's not the same since his illness thing last year; not sure what that was all about but he's different now.
  12. I'm really digging your positive waves man. (avatar reference)
  13. Rangers with best scoring chance on our PP so far!
  14. Nice work by Girgs and BOWL-YOU....knocking some Ranger ass to the ice... Love it!
  15. Ooh. Very close there. Almost got the rebound off the back boards too.
  16. It's so adorable when Doc's voice cracks like that. Smart man.
  17. Reinhart with a goal. Someone tell Pierre to shut up with the interference talk.
  18. You know he hates New Yorkers! He's wishing he could get in the crowd and start hitting them with a winter boot! :w00t:
  19. Believe it or not, Rob Ray has mentioned on his GR-55 spots several times this year that he has stood right outside the Sabres locker room between periods and heard Phil going absolutely ape in there, yelling at the guys. Didn't think Phil had that sort of thing in him.
  20. That's not his national shtick; it's just his shtick. He did this crap for years calling Devils games too.
  21. It's what happens when you take native New Yorkers (I assume) and pretend they know something about hockey. For the good of the sport, why don't they farm the production of all this out to the CBC or TSN or whomever from Canada?
  22. I believe Doc does, however. And I ain't talkin' about the kind that plays music. :o
  23. About the same I think; both are horrible and have been for a long time. MLB is by far the best.
  24. Not sure I would describe him exactly like that, but I think we both like him about the same. Unfortunately, quite some time ago, he was anointed the voice of hockey in America and deemed to be hockey broadcasting royalty. Not sure who was behind that exactly. I preferred him when he called Devils games and you didn't bump into him too often. I can't stand his style of calling a hockey game.
