Vegas has the ability to activate Hertl before the end of the regular season, they just said on tsn

We actually drafted him as “Zemgus Girgen” Don’t hate the player, hate the game

Wonder if that means he’s back next year

This pretty much jives with what I was thinking. And definitively not an obstacle that represents an excuse to not finishing 16th of 32 when a) all teams face the issue to varying degrees. Not all are notably better off than the Sabres in this regard. b) the amount we do suffer relatively is mitigated by the fact it’s only a quarter of the league’s pool of players to begin with. c)we only need to finish at the midway point of the league. There are countless other areas to make up the deficit when the goal you are trying to achieve is imminently achievable and you are given a 5 year time time but I agree with your central points

Or another Jack Quinn aka Mark Stone Tanking is a point of view, Antipin

First is negligible second is a small win third is chaos/opportunity -

So we’ve acquired a 7th, a 4th, and a leadership void so far -

8 looks like a sweet spot, looking at the teams around us. We aren’t tanking, but no there’s not much to watch for. I don’t think success here really would mean anything as far as next season goes (as we saw last) Still, I expect them to keep fighting and would expect nothing less. You don’t back down from the expectation to win once it’s installed

Probably looks worse if we were relying on a guy who turned out to be near the end of his rope as an NHLer haha I am also left handed. Born on national left handers day -
Winnipeg’s ticket sales have been very poor and with such a small building we need to fill it on a consistent basis. There’s smoke to the rumor in the sense that, I’ve been at the arena lately, and it’s a bit of a shell of what it was But it’s been better since the new year and I think the fans are starting to actually believe they are good everyone was calling for a rebuild before the season. Bettman recently threw some water on the fire but he reiterated attendance needs to improve

True, that would work. I just really like the idea of Benson and Quinn on the same line. Two best Fs long term I think and I think they’d work well together. Especially with a powerful C in between which could be either of the two imo, if they are on their game.

Benson - Cozens - Quinn Peterka - Thompson - Tuch Greenway - Krebs - Skinner - - Byram - Dahlin Samuelsson - Power Johnson - Clifton/Jokiharju UPL - Backup goalie, and a few good, 2-way competent veteran depth forwards. Prefer a “middle 6” designation, tbh. I’m not talking Jost level depth realistically we need F upgrades even better than that: but this is a bare minimum. Trading Casey may point to an attempt at a legit top 6 F add im just not holding my breath

Interestingly, Jake alllen driving home on tsn how utterly difficult it is to be part of a 3 goalie tandem…hmmm

Is the Sabres biggest issue upfront the lack of an elite forward?

Trying more so for the Nashville model that didn’t quite get it done vs targeting the sabres 06 model that didn’t quite get it done. Top-level D depth being the biggest strength over top-level centre depth -

Make your strength REALLY a strength. Establish an identity, perhaps? im definitely trying to look at our forwards through the prism of how good they’d need to be while being qb’D by an elite D unit im not saying we have to chops to make it work (and so far we haven’t) but that we could specifically forge our identity around Dahlin Power Byram seems reasonable to me as an avenue to chase its a 1 a 1 and a 4 overall lol if you can’t build around that you weren’t going to have the competence to assemble an elite F group anyways lol Just make the GT as fail-safed as possible and supplement the forwards as if you are expecting as little as possible and we might get through this -

So the (risky) but logically sound play was to assume our ability to find another 2C much more attainable than a first pair D (which they obv believe Byram to be) -

I think there’s probably a better chance of finding success with 2 legit, top level “2Cs” (low-level 1Cs) than we do of Thompson establishing consistently as an elite C. Thankfully their contracts appear to allow for that reality Because as of now it’s that one year that’s the outlier re: elite or no, not this season -
nah, f*ck riley boychuk wait, wrong boychuck

Could be. Can you be a cup contender with 2 2Cs, if you have 2 elite defenders? Was Nashville a cup contender for a couple years (actually asking)? I think this is possible i certainly know we can be a solid playoff team in that scenario. We have the top 6 c depth to be a playoff team Quinn can be mark Stone, and we trade for Eichel
