  1. We only kept 4 walleye and 1 sauger that day. That 25 incher went back to grow bigger and lay more eggs and hopefully become a master angler (28 inches) for someone else to catch. Nobody wanted the Pike and you're supposed to throw anything over a 24 inch catfish back. My bro and I were out today and probably caught 65-75 saugers. We kept 6 and my fiance and the two of us ate them when we got home and cleaned them up. I don't mind keeping walleye in the freezer if I could ever get around to catching more than a few of them. I might have 7 or 8 lbs. in the freezer right now but most will go at a family dinner in a couple weeks. No food goes to waste. If we hook a fish in the gill, we try our hardest to get the hook out with minimal damage. Barbs are not allowed in Manitoba so it makes that job easier. If we don't think he is going to make it, he comes home with us. Back at it tomorrow morning.
  2. It was a fun time with an old friend I recently re-connected with and a friend of his. The 31 inch cat was the first cat I have seen taken while trolling. Not common to catch pike in the river but certainly not uncommon. The 35 that I caught was hooked on is tail. It is right up there as the best freshwater fight I have had. I hooked a 36 inch carp by the dorsal fin years ago and it was quite the fight as well. I was reeling this cat in for 3 or 4 turns of the reel thinking it was another small sauger and then it almost pulled my rod (2nd time I had the rod and reel out since I bought them) out of my hand. I caught a 27 inch walleye the first day out with it. Staying away from the river today and tomorrow as there are a couple of wallye derbies going on but will hit it again on Monday. The next 8 days will consist of 6 days of going after fish, ducks and grouse. I might slip in a day for alcohol. Come on down. 25 minutes out of Winnipeg. I'll take you out. Regarding saugers, they breed with walleye and you get a hybrid they call saugeye. I am sure some of them were saugeye.
  3. About 50 saugers and five keeper walleye as well as a 25-in that went back in the water. A 33 inch northern pike, a 31-in channel catfish and a 35 inch Channel catfish. All fish were caught trolling in 12 ft of water banging crank baits off the bottom.
  4. You can't tell the difference.
  5. Caught a 27 1/4 inch walleye on Saturday with my stepdaughter and her husband. 3/4 of an inch shy of a master angler. We caught 24 fish in all but we only took home seven.
  6. I went out with my brother yesterday and we got into the saugers big time. We kept eight of them and also took home five goldeyes/mooneyes that were a good size
  7. The new Stoeger worked well. Not near as many this year as there have been the last 3 years.
  8. 2 x 3.25m. Good deal for both parties involved but I would have preferred a long-term deal.
  9. Most fans are happy with the deal. I'm of the opinion that if you don't want to be here, see ya.
  10. McG for Yager is the Pens looking for a player that is ready to play now and not one or two years down the road and Chevy showing he can make excellent deals when people are saying he's backed into a corner.
  11. "Mcintyre (Winnipeg Free Press reporter) was just on wst saying he heard that it's not just the jets having problems with mcgroarty some of the potential suitors as well over his demands, he went on to say he heard that they were close to a trade on the weekend and the deal didn't happen because of said reason." Sounds a bit entitled to me. If I'm Chevy, he plays for two more years in university and Winnipeg gets a 2nd round pick around 45 or 46 I think. He goes back into the draft in 2026. See how he likes that and it sends a message to other college players that want to dictate where they play. He's a 14th pick, not a number one overall.
  12. yes!!!
  13. 2 years!
  14. You are right and I've changed my mind. It seems I can't hold a gun freehand near as still as I used to be able to. I'm good from a rest but a headshot at 75 yards consistently, shooting freehand, would be a challnge to say the least. I think I'll test some full metal jackets out. The better half gave me the okay on some thirteen-lined ground squirrels that were getting into her flowers and those VMax absolutely blow them apart. If I am low on a grouse 1 1/2 inches with these ones I am using on the squirrels, I'll ruin the bird. Getting old sucks.
  15. Oilers 2 x 3.5m
  16. It'd be hard to move Ehlers until July 1st because he can't extend until then. I guess Chevy could always let them talk so they know if he is interested in extending. Don't want to see him go but I think it is going to happen. I also think that what you would get for him before July 1st, would be about what you would get for him at the TD.
  17. Ehlers is a winger. Plays either side. Adequate...ish defensively. He is making 6m AAV for one more year and then I would guess he expects a raise.
  18. There is talk that the frontrunners for McGroarty are CBJs, Sabres and NYI.
  19. Isn't his name Dakota Joshua?
  20. If Ehlers is traded, it will be for more than a 14th overall. If he is traded, it will probably be to a team where he wants to play and a team that will extend him.
  21. Love to see DD coming back for 4 more years at a favorable caphit. He would have got more on the open market with longer term. He complements JMo on the first pairing. With DD as his partner, he doesn't need to worry about his partner and allows him to play his game.
  22. I'd like to go see Neil when he plays here but $260.00 is the cheapest ticket. My 3 biggest disappointments regarding concerts are Neil, Dylan and CSN&Y.
  23. Laine for PLD??? Jets hire Chynoweth and Payne as assistant coaches under Arnie.
  24. My new grouse gun. M3k Stoeger with a 24 inch barrel.
