My God I hate knee-jerk emotional and usually illogical rantings after losses. Just as much as I hate knee-jerk emotional usually illogical rantings after wins.

Thank you to those who keep it even tempered with fair analysis.

It sucks they lost… I got over it 10 minutes after it happened. Onto the next game.

They've got a little less than 3 weeks to get into a playoff spot or it's not going to happen for another season. We've seen this movie over and over again. The same issues with this club don't seem to get addressed. We will know very shortly where this season is headed.

Well as I said last night, goaltending matters.

So we won one last night because of good goaltending and we lost one tonight because of bad goaltending. Although I'm not sure we'd have won even if UPL was any good (first two goals were absolute garbage, third one a tip so I guess can't fault him on that one) as we struggled with their forecheck and once they got up they checked and kind of took the foot off the gas so it's hard to say.

We were just easy to beat tonight. Can't say I liked much about how we played except maybe a few quick outlet passes that created opportunities. We do do that well.

The good news is Montreal showed the Bruins are very beatable. The bad news is they did it a completely different way then we play (they used the Florida game plan) so it will be interesting to see if our way can succeed against their style. Contrast in style games are always interesting imo.

Might have been a one off, but based on tonight, the Montreal rebuild looks like it's leapt over us already. The make up of their team is balanced and has the ability to play different ways. I wonder if that'll hold up over the full season. If it does, our chances for playoffs are slim to none.

To me the biggest difference between Montreal's rebuild and Buffalo's is behind the bench: Coach Martin St. Louis. Passionate and not afraid to send a message to his players. The guy was a real competitor on the ice and he brings it to the coaching.

It’s not the recent record… It’s the lack of consistent play by the team… B2B games is no excuse for poor passing, no PP,  and lack of physicality.

    It’s a coaching issue…

It is absolutely a coaching issue! There is more than enough talent on this club but I believe (and I don't know this for a fact, I am assuming) that Don Granato may be too nice of a guy. Completely unemotional behind the bench so I can't imagine him being any different in the dressing room. We need a coach with some passion and no Mr. Nice Guy with this crew. You don't have to be the players friend. The players will accept your message if it translates into wins and prosperity for all.

    I disagree, respectfully.

They did it, therefore, they are capable of it. If Granato says last season was offense training, and he says this season is defense training, yet Adams says the goal is the playoffs, then the problem is Granato. Clearly the team is better at offense than defense. Granato needs to go imho. I know we all love the "Meatballs" affection, but let's be completely honest here. There is an abundance of talent on this team, they are not being coached well if you look at the play on the ice. I mean, cone on now, thos is ridiculous, no net front presence, panic passing, panic when pressured, constant loss of puck control. And the list goes on. Coaching at some point, matters.

Totally in agreement. I want to see these young guys under an older school type coach. I would love Gerard Gallant (before Edmonton gets him!) No nonsense and perhaps he can get the defence to actually play defence. Despite the douchebaggery, I think Babcock could work wonders with this group but he'll never see the light of day in the NHL again is my guess. Not sure about Bruce Boudreau. I felt bad for him in Vancouver but it looks like Tocchet was the right move, even if it was extremely poorly executed by GM Rutherford.

  5. I'm seriously ready for Gerard Gallant. None of this not ready to start a game #### anymore. With Gerard, you had better be ready to play or you sit! Sorry DG. You've got a little over 3 weeks to get this team in a playoff position or it won't happen for another season. This was supposed to be the year of at least a playoff birth. Not going to happen in my opinion.

  6. I've never been happier to eat my hat on this one! I expected this game to have a reversal of the score with Ottawa owning the Sabres. Hopefully this will be the elixir this club needed to get the engine going. Hopefully this road trip gets them playing like a cohesive unit we saw several times last season. String a few of these games together!!! And Jeff Skinner: keep playing greedy and keep shooting you beautiful bastard!!! If Tage isn't pulling the trigger, then you've got to!

It was a great effort that was thwarted by a very hot goalie.  Poop happens.

The same effort will end up in more results than not.  It's a game of inches.

I think some here would be pissin' in everybody elses Cherrios if the Sabres win 10 zip.

Keep that optimism going into the Sens game. Can't see the Sabres winning it (I'll be happy if they're even in it) Ottawa looks really good this season (and Detroit even better) This game could be ugly.

After the first two losses I said those two losses are essentially not something to worry about at that point. Now I am in the worry camp. Other teams are pulling away and November into December may be a sprint just to catch up. That leaves only about two months or so to pull away and secure a playoff birth.

You'll have your final answer at US Thanksgiving. If they're out of a playoff spot by then, they will not get in this season.

Man, I am at my I laws and missed the first half of the 3rd. I thought we played really well through 2.

This one sucks because we felt like the better team.

I said earlier that I would be “OK” if the Sabres started 3-6, but didn’t lose two in a row, and we’re working through some things while getting better at two way hockey. I stand by that. The team is getting better. Don’t go on losing streaks, keep getting better at the weakest parts of our game, and we can still get there.

I really liked this team the last two games.

I'm betting Ottawa takes it to them. I'll be completely stunned if somehow this Sabres club manages to beat them. World of difference in watching these two teams play the game right now.

Well that's way better than giving up a goal in the first minute. Made it 3 minutes this time.

Comrie was way too slow getting back in position across the net, not sure what he was doing there.

and almost all 5 Sabres were on the one side of the ice leaving the point man plenty of time. He made good by not wasting time but he could have walked in as well once he got the pass. Bad coverage by Buffalo.

Meatballs is on the clock. This is on him and his unwillingness to address defense.

Exactly, it's the same old same old we have seen in previous seasons.

For what it’s worth, the Blues were something like 17-24 and in last place in the first week of January 2019 and they turned it around and went on to win the cup. Anything is possible I guess.

No way this team is even close to that one.

And last year the Sabres started IIRC 7-3-1 then followed that up with a 2-9 stretch after the D started dropping like flies.  The team looked very good for long stretches after that though they still had 3 more losing streaks.

The Sabres WILL play better than they have but they have to stop making the easily correctible mistakes like taking stupidly long shifts.

Surprisingly, the PK has looked good so far.  Hoping that stays the case when ComPL or UPrie get the start on Saturday.  (The goalie is the best PKer.)

The PP, though only clicking once was actually generating chances.  Keep generating chances there and that will get better.  But figure out 5v5.

Frustrating start to the season.  But at least there's a lot of hockey left to be played.

They have until US Thanksgiving. If they aren't in a playoff spot by then, they will not be at season's end. Not that much hockey to be played. You really should avoid the slow start to the season. All the games count.

I swear to god if the “why make a change? we aren’t going to win the cup this year, anyways” talk starts I’ll poke my eyes out lol

I don’t have any faith it won’t, but luckily I actually still think we turn this around in season. But who knows, I’m generally very hopeful at this time of year after worrying all offseason

we’ll see how the first 20 or so go. US thanksgiving is usually a good barometer

US Thanksgiving is the gold standard. Very few teams make the playoffs if they're out of contention at that time.
