Exactly, I was all in for a change once they were out of a playoff spot by that date. I hope they manage to sign one of the available coaches before other clubs suck them up by the off season. (and hoping that one of them may actually want to come here and try and fix this mess) Berube, Gallant, hell, I would be satisfied with Boudreau. We cannot go into another season with Don Granato as head coach.

and I don't say it lightly. Personally, (although I have never met the man) I like Don Granato and was hoping he would be "THE GUY" to lead us out of the darkness. It is plain to me now that he just isn't it. He had enough time and to see the complete regression this season, with the same continuous mistakes being made and lack of accountability, we just cannot continue with him at the helm. I wish him all the best wherever he lands next.

    This I agree with mostly.

They need several significant changes/additions/upgrades: but at least we are in the spot where THAT is what we need. The GM needs to actually do it, but at least it’s reasonably possible from our standing.

To start a reset would be a huge mistake. Even if we brought in a new GM, which id be fine with, he’d have to be a quick turnaround guy to a certainty. These guys are aplenty: and they aren’t all Tim Murray. Most vet GMs operate in the real NHL ie they don’t believe in the absurdity of 5 year, job security prioritized plans. A guy could come in and say, thanks for the prospect pool, and make the necessary tweaks KA apparently refuses to. Or KA could just do it

If KA could do it, he would have done it by now. My patience with management is done. Management and coaching is the biggest overhaul the club needs. There is talent to put on the ice. Needs the right coaching and a tougher management group.

Are you really asking though? cause I think you already know.

Pegula hockey is not winning hockey.

Funny thing is, go back to the off season threads where half this board were mocking the Yzerplan and some were even claiming he'd lost it entirely.

Truth! Also the fact that many on this board didn't want Patrick Kane here feeling he wouldn't help. He has fit right in nicely with Detroit! Imagine adding another scoring forward to the Sabres lineup? What's this season's biggest weakness?: scoring goals.

It is easy to point fingers at the last offensive play.  It is harder to look at the game as a whole and see that many plays were botched.  It should have never been left up to the kicker.  Who relies on a kicker who is 2-6 from that distance in the playoffs?  The mindset should have been TD on that last drive.  There are a lot of players and coaches to blame.  Bring in Bill.

and audition kickers at training camp. Its the NFL, at $5 million per, you're expected to make those.

Power doesn’t have a nasty streak in him at all. I don’t know if that will ever change since that’s a personality issue. In comparison, Tyler Myers was very soft at the beginning. He has gotten a little more nastiness in him as the years have gone by, but even now he’s still pretty soft.

Watched the Canucks/Hawks game and under Tocchet, Myers has a lot more grit in him than he ever has- and it's working for him. Coaching matters big time! Myers would be the Sabres toughest guy in that lineup (and that's not saying much)

But that's why you have one and why he gets $5 million per year. The Bills left him on the roster so you go with him. Not so sure that will be the case next season. As for Bill, I actually would love to see it but I don't think that's happening at all. The Bills can't have nice things!

I don't blame Bass.  The offensive game plan was designed to protect the defense, which was short-handed.  It almost worked.  To win championships, you can not drop passes.  The Bills had their chances, but couldn't make the plays.  Enjoyed the roller coaster season and can't wait to next year.  My question, what happened to the defensive line?

I blame Bass. You win by making 40 yard field goals when that's what you've been hired to do. Yes it was windy but he' s not a rookie. The snap and hold were fine. Winners make those. I'm sure there will be auditions at camp for place kicker next season.

Every game you see flashes, and the talent disparity isn’t that great between the Sabres and the top teams.

Adams hasn’t helped them enough but it is 99.99% a coaching issue right now, it is beyond obvious.

Especially the power play (as so many others on here have noticed) and the line of players coach DG sends out in the final minute when the Sabres are down a goal (again, many on here have noticed that as well, it's "non-sensicle")

@eman @PerreaultForever you both think Patrick Roy is a capable NHL head coach?

Also, in 2013-14, a Roy coached Colorado Avalanche club got 112 points on the season. Not too shabby. The unfortunate part was they were eliminated in the first round. But overall, Roy has a winning record as an NHL head coach in 3 seasons of work. Time will tell, but in my opinion, yes, I think he's capable.

If the choice is between keeping Granato or hiring Roy I’ll stand pat. I don’t think Granato is a very good coach and I’ve been saying that since October of last season. I just don’t think Roy is an upgrade.

Also the Islanders are a better team than the Sabres and should absolutely get more points than the Sabres. It would be an utter failure on the entire Islanders organization if they didn’t outproduce the Sabres.

How do you figure the Islanders are a better team with all the number one draft picks the Sabres accumulated over 13 playoff less seasons? Matthew Barzal is a good one, maybe Bo Horvat and Sebastien Aho. Who else? It isn't that stunning of a lineup. Not sure why you think the Islanders are actually a better club. Lou is dissatisfied and expects more, maybe that is the difference?

This season was over 20 games in.  Any team that has a season long win streak of 2 games is not a playoff team.

The questions are how do you fix this team and are KA/DG the men to do it?

Nope, they aren't the guys. I don't think that's a question anymore. The talent is there I believe, but it just needs to be coached properly and perhaps a little "tough love" to such a young squad when called upon. I didn't like the way the final 2 games of the preseason looked (and I know it was only preseason but I believe the lineups were almost the starters for this season) They didn't seem to resemble the prior season's club that scored and attacked.

    BREAKING

I’m hearing word the race has been called and we have a projection for 13:

It was over after US Thanksgiving. Several on here don't believe in the Sportscentre stat but I do. The odds are so heavily stacked against a club that is out of a playoff position at that point in the season. This club showed me nothing to indicate they were going to turn things around. Not under this current coaching staff. It was even evident in the final couple of preseason games.

These same guys looked like an offensive force much of last season. This season they're too often just gliding around, tossing off sloppy passes, and don't seem to have any clear purpose out there. We still get occasional glimpses of what they're capable of, but then follow that up with another clunker or three. That's what's so frustrating. I still say these guys like Granato, but they won't play for him on any consistent basis. We need a new, tougher voice behind the bench.

And I believe it is because they are so young as a group. They need a tough voice that won't tolerate laziness and sloppiness. Donnie may just be too nice of a guy.

I was one of the only people here (and took much flack for it) who wanted Torts before Philly got him but I'd be happy with Gallant since he's available now. idk if Gallant would want the job but I think we need to commit to an experienced proven hockey guy and give him the power. Five year contract and player movement influence. Let him dissect the team and then rebuild it as necessary.

Myself, if I was owner, I would hire a senior advisor like Rick Dudley (for Sabres ties) and let him hire an experienced GM and coach who have the proper mindset and motivation. Someone like that who knows the game and the people far better than we do. and definitely better than Pegula does.

Truth! Time to bring in experienced hockey people. Some on here thought Torts and his ilk might be too old school for the newer younger player but I beg to differ. These are very young men who need some discipline to reach their potential and Torts has done a great job in Philly and I would have loved him here also. The newer, fresher coaches and GM hirings are not working out for this hockey club (13 years staright now) so let's kick it "old school".

The team would get better, Gallant would eventually ask for more control of the roster, then problems will start.  But we need that first step that Gallant could bring.  The team would learn they are actually better.  Like NJ last year, and Vancouver this year.

We have a whole bunch of good players already in place. Success would help them get even better.  It’s a shame there is no urgency at the top of the organization to win.

Exactly. I do believe the talent is here and in Rochester. That's why it bothers me so much to see it wasted. If things don't change soon, some of this talent will want to be elsewhere, and I hate to see them perform well for another club and wish what could have been here. Look at the Flyers this season also under Torts. Basically the same lineup as last season, but so much better structurally and it shows in the standings. It's time for Don to move on and I have no animosity for the man. I wish he could have been 'the guy" but it is all too apparent, he just isn't.

Another Buffalo Sabres loss. The bottom line is this Sabres core of Jack, Samson, Risto aren't good enough. In the offseason the Sabres need a major block buster trade like when the Sabres moved................................

    Did I make my point?

It's the coaching, and the team culture that comes from that coaching failure and the lack of leadership along with that.

It's not enough. It won't change much if anything.

Bring Gallant in anyhow (if he would sign here) I want it and I would bet, things would change here. Talent is there, just completely poorly coached.

They control if they want to run us, we control if we are intimidated.    Don’t think the Sabres are, which is good.

Now let’s get a PPG and turn this around.

Hoping for a Sabres power play goal (especially this season) won't get it done. Canucks played a sound road game. Matt Ellis should have been fired weeks ago and Don Granato likewise. Unfortunately, no intestinal fortitude or interest in this organization from its owner will allow this mess to fester.
