Brutal period for the Sabres. Andy to the rescue again. Just brutal.

Sorry but this is a Terrible terrible terrible take
Even the broadcasters stated "Dahlin heard footsteps and bailed". Not sure what you saw. Yes, Eakin coughed it up.

Habs attacking, charging, shooting… We are tentative, East/west, not attacking, charging and shooting… We are rested… No excuse…
Again, Donny Meatballs didn't have them ready to go at puck drop. Big PK coming up here. Down 2-0 and the Sabres could be in for a rough night.

Habs are much better under St. Louis. I could see this one coming.
-
and there you have it on another turnover! 1-0 Habs. Not crazy about Dahlin's defensive game. I wouldn't mind if they moved him up on forward. He got caught on the other play also where Anderson bailed them out.
-
I'm sorry. Andy just bailed out the horrific Sabres D. Let's keep harping on the state of the goaltending though. Defence is the most serious issue pressing this club. How many games have we seen point blank chances by the opposition?

Sabres win tonight. A rare prediction but there it is. I want to see Biro play. He has potential to be a good one for the Sabres.
I hope you're right because I'm getting a squeamish feel about this one. Just because of the Martin St. Louis coaching factor for the Habs. They have played much better since he has taken over and I expect them to start the game hard! Donny better have the Sabres ready to go at puck drop this evening!

I'm a Sabre fan. I'm getting numb and fatigued watching this team. It seems that most of our discussions are on the same loop with the same criticisms. After watching the Colorada game I got a spark of hope. Then I was brought back to reality after watching the Columbus game against a team that also played a back to back. It's so sad to see games played on the road in front of a full house with a raucous crowd. That's in stark contrast to games played in a mostly empty home arena with a yawning crowd.
Next year, a few more young players will be added to the roster that will continue the rebuild. That's a good thing. The organization still needs to do more to regain its credibility to the many fans that have walked away. What this owner and organization need to understand is that systemic losing is corrosive for the players and the vanishing fans. The organization has to demonstrate some urgency this offseason.
Exactly. Nailed it.

Then Granato needs to start coaching games to win… Use his practices for development… He needs to raise his expectations of the group… Be less understanding of losses like this one…
Absolute truth! You coach to win or at the very least "be tough to play against" which was Don's mission statement. 2 of the past 3 games, that has been sorely lacking. People can bitch about Craig Anderson all they want, if anyone saw the first period, he's the reason they were still in it after 1 period. The defence is a serious issue regardless of whether Dahlin is in the lineup or not.

Ralph Krueger was fired on March 17th of last year, anyone who hasn't seen the giant improvement in Dahlin's all around game since that moment either knows nothing about hockey or is just a hater.
Since 12/14 approximately 2 months ago, he has 19 points in those 22 games. A 71 point pace in a full year. He's played over 24 minutes a game of TOI and he's 3rd on the team in hits for the season. His D partners this year are JAGS (Pysyk, Hagg, Miller, Butcher) 2 rookies (Samuelsson and Fitzgerald) and an undersized Dman in Bryson who also doesn't have a full season of games played (78) for his career and he's the reason this team isn't winning?? I don't know what to say anymore about blaming him.
I agree, his game has really improved. I thought he was still the same Dahlin as before up until the All-Star game. After that, he has taken off and seems like a brand new Dahlin to me. Not sure what happened at the All-Star break but he has really upped his game since then. Starting to round into the player that he was proposed to be and as he matures, may still only get better. Here's hoping!

Dahlin is started to get much more physical. He is 21 he is coming along in all aspects of his game including physical play.
He has shown flashes of physicality since he came back from the All-Star game. He is only 21 and hopefully he adds more beef to really hand it back. Once the playoffs start and the Sabres are in them in the future, it is much more physical and extra beef will serve him well.

I think he may have been shaken up but could have been selling the penalty but the ref decided not male the call. Typical third period officiating.
and the kind of non-call we are all getting used to seeing against Buffalo unfortunately. (and actually, with some frequency this season)

Maybe a little tougher. He got ragdolled on the winning goal and collapsed like a sack and stayed down while the Avalanche all headed up ice.
-
That's Avalanche hockey. They play a heavy game. Ragdolled Dahlin and up the ice for a goal. Now the make up call by the ref. Sabres need to get that goal back right here!

Yup, get the hook out. Toker needs to take a seat. Nice shot and all but you have to set the tone.
-
Just keep shooting Tage. Every chance you get!!

Fantastic Sabre D on that second goal. Outraced tio the puck. Just plain sad.
-
Avalanche very physical in their own end, Sabres are weak in their end when Colorado comes in. Have to hope Kuemper is off his game this afternoon.

All Avalanche after Tage's goal. This game could get ugly.

Yep, just like the bills were rebuilding for the greater part of 2 decades and it was correct to have hope at some point.
and then Mahomes showed up and the #1 ranked D failed.

Believe it when I see it. Wright ain't gonna be a Sabre.

Pity about those 2 weeks then, as getting Wright might be the only saving thing to happen this season (apart from Tuch, I like him, he's like the type of Sabre we used to have before Terry bought this thing)
and no guarantee the Sabres get Wright either despite the odds.

^ This, Buffalo’s defense isn’t good and Anderson looked like ***** besides the offense looking nonexistent.
The defence is actually terrible. They won't take the body, they back up into the slot area giving up prime scoring positioning and they stick check. This has not changed under 3 separate coaches, so you're basically requiring your goaltender to consistantly stand on his head game in and game out. Unless the Sabres start really putting the puck in the net (even next season with their young talent if they come up) they will lose more than they'll win.

Krebs with his best game as a Sabre. He looked tonight in the NHL, like he has looked in Rochester.
Craig Anderson is so much better than the pap we’ve been watching in goal for most of the year.
Coyotes, not good.
Avalanche, very good. Let's see what happens in Denver. I am expecting this board to light up (due to a serious beatdown courtesy Colorado) Nice to see the Sabres can beat the bottom feeders of the league but Colorado will provide a truer measure of progress? Also Montreal coming up and hopefully no steps backward when playing them (they too, are absolutely horrible this season) Hopefully this team surprises me with a good effort in Colorado.

I can see exactly why the Sabres lose. Looking at the roster, this season had bottom 5 written all over it, but it didn’t have too.
I’ve been in St Louis following the Blues. They have been consistently good for a very long time, sometimes even in the very top tier. They won a cup just a few years back. A winning mindset, setting high expectations, a strong work ethic - this is not garbage and it’s not something you turn on like flipping a switch
Bad games happen. 82 games seasons will have ups and downs. Injuries happen. Your Colorado example doesn’t hold up. They still lead their division and their conference. They had a few bad nights over a 7 week period. They don’t play effortless and uninspired hockey every 3 games like the Sabres do.
These clunker games the Sabres have come up far too frequently. I get the talent issue, but I don’t like the effort. If they can’t get up and compete for Detroit and Ottawa that is a concern.
and a decent coaching staff! Let's not forget that.

Will he be here next year? Hopefully not. Wow, who coaches the defence on this club? I thought they canned Steve Smith?
