  1. Because Adams promised him a stress free environment that put growth over winning and that sounded more appealing to him at this stage in his career. He had a blast last year. He's quite possibly could be the best ambassador for the Sabres this summer.
  2. Boca Raton translates to Spanish literally as Mouse's Mouth. Its name was originally labeled in the first European maps of the area as "Boca de Ratones", and many people mistakenly translate the name in English as Rat's Mouth. Although incorrect (ratón means "mouse" in Spanish; "rat" is rata), this translation continues to be popularized by several residents and institutions in the city. For example, the tailgate area for football games at Florida Atlantic University is known as the "Rat's Mouth".[18] "Boca", meaning mouth in Spanish, was a common term to describe an inlet on maps by sailors. The true meaning of the word "ratones" for the area is more uncertain. Some claim that the word "ratones" appears in old Spanish maritime dictionaries referring to "rugged rocks or stony ground on the bottom of some ports and coastal outlets, where the cables rub against."[19] Thus, one possible translation of "Boca Raton" is "rugged inlet".[20] Still other people claim that "ratones" referred to pirates who hid out in the area, and thus the name could translate to "pirates' inlet", which would illustrate why there is a pirate ship in the city seal.
  3. We have signed forward Filip Cederqvist to a two-year, entry level contract. Sabres sign Bishop from Dallas to ensure they won't see cap related problems. Quite an ingenious move by Adams. Josh Bloom to a three-year, entry-level contract starting in 2022-23 A month from now UFA signings start.
  4. I have to apologize then. When you bumped the thread I thought it was to *twist the knife* thing to do. I honestly didn't realize you wanted to update the thread on getting two more ELC signings this week and the smart play by signing Bishop. I thought quite the opposite, you where just dismissing them.
  5. No body talks about those little things he does. Just wondering if signing UFAs and making big trades is all that matters.
  6. Does signing kids to ELCs count? Does stocking Rochester with prospects matter? Or are we here for UFA signings and big trades only?
  7. They have a bunch of goalies. You may not like them. But again, over spending will not happen.
  8. Doing the right thing with players you have control over is competence. Hoping a UFA signs with your team when offered a fair contract and doesn't, does not make a GM incompetent.
  9. Easy going non-drinking never hold a grudge type your saying?
  10. This is a move a good GM makes in this position. Plan for the worst while hoping for the best. This move only solidifies that Adams has a level head on his shoulders. That is the only conclusion I can draw from this move.
  11. Could be the attacker initiated all of it. We don't get to see anything leading up to it. To me a single fan at an away game doesn't single out 1 guy surrounded by hundreds of home fans and start the macho stuff. One guy surround by hundreds of his gumbas is far more likely to start the talk and take the liberties.
  12. Doesn't Mike have the same stigma attached to him as Bruce does about young players?
  13. PPFFFTT! I had his hair for many years, many years ago. I begrudge no one over the age 40 for sporting some long locks because in a few short years it could all go south. By south I mean straight off his head and into his nose and ears.
  14. I bet this changes soon. Getting a check to sign autographs is okay (the horse puckey in that is thick), but going to training camp and getting free room and board is not? It's from the Slate. https://slate.com/culture/2022/05/ncaa-name-image-likeness-athlete-pay-for-play-dilemma.html *The NCAA is in a fundamental pickle. The association represents university presidents, and those administrators would really, really like to put a stop to football boosters using “name, image, and likeness” payments as carrots to recruit players to their schools.* *After the NCAA started to allow outside payments to players without an in-depth framework, the inevitable followed. One by one, moneyed boosters at programs around the country fired up name, image, and likeness “collectives,” where donors send money into a pot that, in turn, gets paid out to a school’s athletes for what is nominally promotional activity. But the amounts paid to some players have made it obvious that the collectives engage in pay-for-play disguised as endorsement or sponsorship money from detached third parties. (The collectives set themselves up with tax-exempt status, something that’s already raised the eyebrows of a lot of tax lawyers.) *
  15. I would think just a year or two ago that wouldn't fly, but now??? The NCAA is going through a lot of change.
  16. Everyone is caught up in how big the kid is. With a pretty thorough search the latest up dates are coming in from a year ago at 5'11" and 163 lbs. Height is of absolutely no concern. A bit slight of a build for a 19 year old but that has a higher probability to be from his 18 year old self. Can we get him to training camp and get a look see before we beat this dead horse some more?
  17. What if his right forearm and center leg where the strongest? For me the combine is a great way for teams to meet a lot of young men in a neutral situation and be able to learn more about them personality wise. They're 17-18 years old, they are still developing. They may get a good guess at who will become more *athletic* but it's still a lottery with their physical future.
  18. Rosen has a long way to to be considered worthy of his draft position or to be considered a bust. But he still looks like Alfred E Neuman.
  19. I honestly thought the Tampa/Florida matchup would be the biggest test for the Cup. Florida isn't built for a deep run. Toronto showed better goal tending and defense than any of the western teams so far. I think the best series in this year's Stanley Cup playoffs will wind up being the Tampa/ Toronto first round. There may be ones that are more fun to watch, but the two best teams may have already played each other.
  20. I think this game was a one off. Fun, yes. Col comes back with a much stricter gap control and plays a more Tampa style (or any team in the East) game.
